He is a big with nice upside- runs hard, plays hard, works hard, listens, and is very coachable. Not sure we can ask for much more out of a recruit- it is now up to the staff to develop him, and I am very confident that will happen.

The Elmer Fudd references could be off the charts if he's any good.

Nice to get a big...maybe he will grow a little, and be a rim protecting rebounder...Score around the hoop...I'm not asking for too much..

Speaking as someone who expressed concern over the fact that no one taller than 6'6" fully participated in the last pre-season (or whatever you call the window before a full practice schedule) practice, I am pleased to see a taller recruit. Especially since the two tallest kids on the roster are seniors. There are many, many factors that go into making a good ball player, but you can't teach height

At least that "pesky wabbit" would be on our side.

There is a long list of big men that CDP has developed going back to his tenure at Williams.

Hoop Group AC Jam Fest: Day Two Standouts (July 6, 2023) 07/07/2023, 12:15am EDT By Josh Verlin + Antonello Baggi
Josh Verlin (@jmverlin) + Antonello Baggi (@antonellobaggi) —
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Hoop Group helped kick off the July live periods with the start of the AC Jam Fest this week, a three-day tournament to set up the final Hoop Group Summer League events of the season. A couple hundred teams and a couple thousand players filled the 30-plus courts at the Atlantic City City Convention Center throughout the day in front of all levels of college coaches.
Charles Hare (2024 | PTT HGSL 17U) The 6-10 center can definitely improve his skills in many ways, but he is well aware of his potential and his limits. Hare knows how to be helpful for his team and plays his role in the best way he can. He knows how to get open in the paint to complete his teammates’ assists with a layup or get an offensive rebound. With his screens, he facilitates the offense and helps his teammates go by defenders more easily. In the paint he can use both hands for the layup. He also showed he can pass the ball from the post or the elbow. Against Jersey Force, he contributed with 15 points, 10 rebounds and a few blocks. In fact, he is also a good rim protector and communicates constantly.
William Sydnor (2024 | Jersey Celtics Elite HGSL 17U) The 6-8 wing showed his remarkable talent against Crown Basketball (N.Y.), even in a losing effort. He doesn’t lack confidence and his height allows him to shoot from the spots where he feels more comfortable without being too worried about being contested due to his high release. For his upcoming senior year, the wing will play with NJ powerhouse The Patrick School and will have an immediate impact on both ends. In the game facing the Crown he scored 22 points, added two blocks and a lot of boards. Especially in the first half, he preferred to take mid-range shots by slightly fading away. Around the rim he has a nice touch, but his 3-point shot looks solid as well. Defensively, he gets steals and dominates the boards.
Honorable Mention Jalen Baker (2025 | Baltimore Basketball Club 17U), Ethan Benne (2024 | LA Elit3 17U), Remi Black (2024 | Caveman Academy 17U), Alex Bruskotter (2024 | Ohio Buckets HGSL 17U), Emeer Coombs (2024 | Mt. Pleasant Bulldogs 17U), Ben Costello (2024 | PA Hoops Academy HGSL 17U), Miles Demby (2024 | Penn Warriors HGSL 17U), Bradyn Foster (2024 | Caveman Academy 17U), Mason Gorham (2024 | PTT HGSL 17U), Chaz Gray (2027 | All-In Beasts HGSL 15U), Josh Herr (2024 | Central PA Elite 17U), Owen Kelly (2026 | Philly Revolution HGSL 15U), Miles Longacre (2024 | East Coast Power-Danzig 17U), Lateef Lorenzano-White (2026 | NJ Scholars EYBL 15U), Corey Meade (2024 | PA Hoops Academy HGSL 17U), Luke Melniczak (2025 | Philly Revolution HGSL 16U), Kirby Mooney (2024 | Penn Warriors HGSL 17U), Christian McClease (2024 | PTT HGSL 17U), James Pardon (2024 | Ohio Buckets HGSL 17U), Jordan Rogers (2024 | All-In Beasts HGSL 17U), Blake Smith (2024 | PTT HGSL 17U), Eze Wali (2024 | BCRI HGSL 17U), Rocco Westfield (2026 | Philly Revolution HGSL 15U), Jaysean Williams (2025 | Jersey Celtics Elite 17U), Deon Wingfield (2024 | Baltimore Basketball Club 17U)

On Saturday, April 16th, 2022- The Connecticut Elite Basketball Program hosted the Elite 50 College Showcase at Newtown Youth Academy in Newtown, CT. Here are your standouts for the evening:
Charley Hare- top center at showcase. He is a College prospect. Great touch and hands around rim and shot the 3pt shot at 6’9 when left open. Works well in high pick n roll.

Probably a 70 pound difference between the two when Tim was entering HC (must have been around 3 bills) compared to Hare.

His only offer is from New Haven. Can’t we be a little objective about this. Just because he will play for HC doesn’t all of a sudden excite me on this.
DP deserves the benefit of the doubt. But on the surface this isn’t exciting.

That is more than a fair statement dharry. With that said, it will take winning games early or finding a player within the HC community/family to commit as a game-ready big.
Better days are ahead, and as we all know most bigs aren't game-ready the first year.

But on the surface this isn’t exciting. We all know right now we are not going to get a 6'10" plus, 4 or 5 star recruit. So CDP and staff have to find kids with what appears to be a big upside, and coach them into a big role. This is what it looks like to me. A smart move, Hare doesn't have to come in and be a go-to player, he can develop. Perhaps, contribute some minutes right away, 8 to 10 minutes a game, and be a plus player...

OK, bear with me as sometimes these thoughts just pop into my head (and I'm not running for POTUS as I'm apparently still too young based on the two guys with the inside track). It's been posted here over the years by many, many different posters that "bigs" are generally just "not ready" to play immediately but shorter players are - or at least more likely. It's a statement that is taken as a given. So, why is that? Might be something very obvious that I'm missing. Is it because that despite the rising average height that there just are so few tall players that the best go to the power conferences? But, what makes shorter (relatively speaking) players ready for primetime? So many more of them? Don't the best also go to the power conferences. Theoretically, only 1 of 5 players on the court at any given time is a big man center. That's 20%. Are tall players making up that much less than 20% of the basketball playing base? Is playing inside that much more complicated than a guard or forward? After all, centers aren't normally noted for their dribbling ability or being able to pass into a crowd. Remember, I prefaced this with "bear with me."

His only offer is from New Haven. Are you sure ? If there were other offers, he decided not to post them on his Twitter. But, he did post the New Haven offer on Aug. 4. Suppose it's possible there were other offers in that seven week window...but it's curious why he wouldn't publicize them. Posting offers is just marketing oneself and helps with proving legitimacy.

Remember, I prefaced this with "bear with me." Perhaps one key factor is that extremely tall players may be able to get by on height alone against many high school opponents. You could be a 6-10 guy coming up an opponent's 6-4 or 6-5 center and you may be able to score almost at will just by going over the opponent., i.e. you have not needed to develop good footwork or inside moves. Then you get to college and your opponent is 6-8 or taller and likely very athletic. So you have to develop other aspects of your game beyond just being tall. I have not seen Charley's highlight reel and do not have the expertise to evaluate him anyways ,so I am not saying he's just a tall guy without skills.

Welcome to HC Chuck!
Saw this video the other day on youtube (looks like HC87 did as well) with CDP. Really interesting. About 20 minutes in they are talking about Duncan Robinson, and CDP mentioned how he uses him as an example to his assistants about not overlooking under the radar types. He specifically mentions "not worrying about what offers a kid has, to trust your gut". This commitment might be one of those gut trusting instances.

Another interview from the Field of 68 with Marquette's Tyler Kolek. From about the 3 minute to 3:30 minute mark the 2023 Big East POY talks about his ex-coach at George Mason, Dave Paulsen.
