Question How many posters would have made the same commitment to the CAF, entertain supporting momentum, if it existed without Chesney, and 90 wide, invested additional dollars for other sports, or would have continued purchasing season tickets if Chesney and staff weren't here? He resurrected football and a realization by alums, well at least those on Crossports that all HC sports need to be fixed. Some like women’s hoops appear to be making progress but the others need significant help. He deserves everything he, his program, Kit, and the school need. And they deserve it now. While I sense I am Persona Non Grata for wanting to bolt the PL for a better future for all Holy Cross sports (the PL schools are not our peer group for applicants), there is no need to have academics and athletics joined at the hip in the PL. We are a proud institution of values, tradition, character, and a commitment to academic superiority, athletic excellence and spiritual growth and we must define our own path for the future. Thanks for listening on a Sunday evening, and I promise this is my last post on this critical topic, but unlikely to be my final words with the school. Go Cross be great again on Saturday!!! You are persona grata to me but could HC afford to have attendance drop to UNH and URI levels? Those two CAA schools have entire states and tens of thousands of alumni to draw from but have lower home attendance than HC in the PL.

I think we can create a new energy for NE football
An opinion based on our experience and these things have cycles. It was great to see students attending the game

HC draws more than the two closest CAA football teams, and I assume Maine also. And HC just beat the CAA co-champion. HC would lose two OOC games per season in the CAA so scheduling both Army and BC in the same year might be more difficult. No team has left the PL this century. Everyone's different but I like that consistency.
The revolving door in college athletics for players, schools and leagues is not that appealing to me.

And the non-conference flexibility in football. Fordham is the only all-sports member to have left the PL. Towson was an odd-fitting football affiliate only from sometime in the mid-90s until about 2002 when they made the move from the America East to the CAA in all sports. Other than that, the last football school to leave was Davidson in the late 80s after only a couple years.

One difference between Duff leaving and Ches possibly leaving : Duff left as school was starting to de-emphasize football. Feels like we’re now emphasizing it. No doubt the program was changing direction as Duff's 1991 season's senior class was the last one w/scholarships. He'd have been crazy not to accept a FBS offer.

Rewatching now....kind of like the old Channel 27 days....the O-Line was just immense. The double-headed monstah of Sluka and Oliver was just too much for UNH.
Really just a great day for the school yesterday.....lots and lots of 80s alums in attendance...crowd was smallish due to the weather but it was very spirited. Definitely one of the most memorable games for me in the 50+ years of going to games at Fitton.

...and in reviewing the game it looks like Sluka could have been even better. On a third down play early on, he had an open corridor in front of him and simply slipped and went down forcing HC to punt the first time. Normally (on a drier field) he would have been off to the races. Clearly, he adjusted better to field conditions in the second half.

Remember years ago when you used to talk down to everyone about how UNH was so much better at football than the tiny Catholic school you hate so much? You must miss those days. Now you’re trying to argue that having 1139 fewer fans per game is actually more because UNH charges a higher price for a worse product. It’s an interesting intellectual question whether HC would rather have fewer fans at a higher price point (call it the Disney model) or whether more fans is better because of all the ancillary benefits to getting more people on campus. Either way, no one really cares about UNH attendance. We only care about UNH when we play them in football and guess what? We won. Again.

I am not sure if Herder's prediction has been posted but here it is (was):
10. Holy Cross (#8 seed) (The #10 is his pick of the 16 teams that played last Saturday)
Holy Cross will likely be the most popular pick for a seeded team to lose this week. The Crusaders take on New Hampshire, who just beat Fordham 52-42. UNH led 28-7 at one point. Holy Cross faced Fordham earlier this season, needing overtime and a 2-point conversion to win 53-52. Expect a 50/50 game here. Even if Holy Cross gets a win, going to No. 1 seed SDSU is a tough quarterfinal matchup to advance further in the bracket.

I was impressed by the crowd in spite of the terrible weather conditions. The NCAA figure on crowd-size was low in my opinion and some classmates of mine from '08 said they were coming in on the Freshman field side and just getting waived in so who knows if they were counted. My dad ('77) and I stuck it out while his good friend (Gtown guy) fled for drier pastures at halftime. Memorable win and hopefully more home playoff games in the future.

True they were not scanning tickets, but aren't they just counting attendance as the number of tickets sold

Hard to believe how so many educated alums get suckered into Foley's schtick. I promise you that if you ignore him, he will eventually go away. It's the reactions that keep him coming back here.

Was a great trip to Worcester this weekend to visit with some old college friends, tailgate on Freshman Field and watch a victory in some pretty crazy conditions. It was sinking in yesterday morning on the drive home that everybody there witnessed something nobody had ever seen before in the program's history (a 12th win).
I was impressed with the UNH crowd on the opposite side of the stadium and those on Freshman Field seemed to be of a friendlier disposition than Mr. Foley. I was even more impressed with the showing on the HC side. Seemed like a strong crowd despite the elements. The small throng of shirtless students in the endzone was a nice touch and I sincerely hope none of them have pneumonia today.
I'm wondering how many two-wheel drive vehicles are still stuck on Freshman Field right now. It was a shallow pond when we left after the game.
We didn't stay to watch the MBB live, but we caught it from the warm confines of a friend's house on ESPN+. The FB/MBB/WBB trifecta win on Saturday made for a most happy weekend back in central Mass.

Saturday was a Quadfecta….
Men’s Hockey also won at Air Force. Great and successful day to root for the Purple.
It was Purple People Eater day, for those over 60, you may remember the song.

I was very impressed with the UNH turnout as well. I think UNH brought more fans than Sacred Heart and possibly more than Fordham despite the weather. They were quite loud in the first half to the point I was hoping they didn't disrupt Sluka and Olsofka. After drying off and drying literally everything I was wearing, I pulled up the game replay and was pleasantly surprised how loud we sounded on tv. The Sluka helmetless run to the endzone, penalties, and subsequent review stood out with the crowd noise. Perhaps the noise was not as deafening as the 2 point conversion vs. Fordham, but it was loud for 6k fans (more like 8-10 I think but what do I know). Let's hope that everyone who makes it out to Brookings can cheer loudly and proudly for our Crusaders. Great weekend for the Cross. A couple of posters from around the country on Any Given Saturday did pick HC to win and a noted the influence of the crowd. I think the highlights of our Fordham game made it around the web and ESPN (good job HC athletics and PR) as well as excellent attendance numbers for FCS football in the Northeast. A fan from Indiana State predicted an HC win on the last play and the fans would storm the field. He got half of it correct!

Would be unique, and very distinctive. Maybe ill advised to go down that rabbit hole again, but it is Jackrabbit week. 🤣
