Among a laundry list of other wishes, players that have crystal clear realistic expectations of what being a student athlete at Holy Cross is all about is up there. What good is it to become a Last Chance U. for players with talent but who are not excited about a solid academic experience also?
Somebody who will stay and buy in for two or three years but who has only 90% of the raw talent of a traveling gun slinger for hire might be a better investment.
Loading up on HS seniors and prep school post grads while ignoring the portal is also a luxury a new coach charged with rebuilding the program has that other coaches might not.
Of note is the WBB team is off to the NCAA with only one senior and only one player who spent a PG year that I can think of. So a youth movement as part of the rebuild is a legitimate option and not necessarily a disadvantage over loading up in the portal like next season is the only season the coach has to build his program. Our next coach is NOT on the hot seat or ovah his head as soon as he's hired.

The more likely scenario is the player who left a public high school after a year or three; and when arriving at his/her new private school, repeated the grade he/she was in. Known as "reclassification"

Known as "reclassification" You can re-classify and still go post grad. I don't follow the comings and goings of high school kids that closely, but I know of a Worcester city kid who did that not too long ago. Recently enough that he was still playing college ball this year

According to the Portal Report, 25 schools including Colgate, have reached out to Campbell and 20 including BC, have contacted Felder, the pg from Malden Catholic. No mention of HC. Felder has committed to Stonehill.

If “the FDU guy” is one of the St Thomas transfers, he would have to sit a year.

Known as "reclassification" I have the impression somehow that BPC got her "leaving cert" (high school diploma) in Ireland before enrolling at Marianapolis for a pg year.

VMI has another frosh in the portal we might kick the tires on. Tyler Houser a 6’9” forward who along with his fellow frosh mentioned above, made All Rookie Southern Conference. He was 3rd team all-state large schools in PA last year and had a 4.0 gpa in hs. He stuck with his commitment to VMI when they made a coaching change last Spring. VMI had a tough year this year, going 7-25. Houser averaged 11 points and 5 boards. He’s a big kid, 235 lbs., but it looks like he likes to shoot 3’s since he took 120 of them this past season. He hit 35%. Came across him on the Fairfield board. Colgate is one of 25 schools to have contacted Houser. Well at least Colgate didn’t get him. Houser commits to Delaware.

Basketball aside, can a regular Navy guy defer his commission to go to grad school?

Basketball aside, can a regular Navy guy defer his commission to go to grad school? No (but recognizing that there are exceptions to all rules in life). Service academy seniors will graduate, receive commissions, and may or may not be dispatched to graduate (including medical) school depending on the needs of the service.

Soph Josh Ogundele (Iowa and Worcester Academy) is in the Portal. He's 6'11" 265.
Only got a total of 71 minutes this year.
I've seen him play. He's a very big body but not athletic or quick enough for Big 10 IMO.
However, he could be very effective in the PL and he does have Worcester in his background.
Hope our new coach or current assistants contact him.

Having seen him at WA I was surprised he went to the Big 10. The little I have seen him at Iowa shows he has dropped many pounds and agree with Crusader 1970 that he is worth contacting if he has the grades
