Not often Holy Cross and Austin Peay are mentioned as recruiting the same person. Fly Is Open. Let's Go Peay! A good number in football since we've expanded south and into Texas.

Was his grandfather (or ggf, I guess) the long time WA coach?
(edit)- believe Tom Blackburn was his grandfather. Unless there's another Jake Blackburn who matriculated there.

Was his grandfather (or ggf, I guess) the long time WA coach? (edit)- believe Tom Blackburn was his grandfather. Unless there's another Jake Blackburn who matriculated there. Maybe ... son of Jim Blackburn Both are correct, grandson of Tom and son of Jim, from Southborough! I knew Tom Blackburn well, a really good athlete who played both basketball and baseball at Duke, even throwing a no-hitter at Rollins College in Florida. I remember Tom and his wife Peg for a number of reasons... He was AD and Basketball Coach at Grafton HS for many years. I played for St. Mary's of Milford and during my senior year we lost our first game to Sacred Heart of Worcester and HC '67 classmate John Burke (RIP)! We then lost our second game to Tom's Grafton team in Grafton 52 -48. Later in the season we beat that same Grafton team 85 - 32 on our home court. I will always remember Tom coming into our locker room after that game and congratulating our players and coaches on the "Outstanding" game we played... he was such a good sport and wonderful person! Years later I would see him and talk basketball with him as he attended many HC games, always appreciating his insight into the games! In addition, my wife worked with his wife Peg in Real Estate with Dorothy Hickox RE in Grafton and Westborough. Tom passed in August last year at the age of 88, I have included a link to his obituary, showing his illustrious career! roneyfuneralhome.com/book-of-memories/4997275/Blackburn-Thomas/index.php

When Tom played hs ball at Grafton, John Meegan was his coach! John used to talk about him all the time.

This kid is a 2026 but seems like someone we should have a good shot with:

Any additional insight as to why HC would have a good shot at him? Locale? Family connection? His last name sounds familiar to HC basketball fans. That it?

It will be interesting to see how the Crotty connection plays out with the kids we have offered in the classes of ‘24 and ‘25.

It will likely get us in the door and keep us involved with some in the Magic family, but until we put a few Ws on the board and recruits see how we play with a new coach, it will only help on the margins. A year from now, it might offer additional benefits and results.

From the AAU Rules 15U/9th Grade Division An athlete can be no older than 15 on or before August 31, 2022. Grade Policy: An athlete who is in the 9th grade as of October 1, 2022 and who is no older than 16 on or before August 31, 2022 is eligible to play in the 15U/9th grade division
Unless he's "playing up", he's starting his sophomore year in September.

After losing the Logan kid to Davidson a few years ago, it will be interesting to see if Paulsen can improve the product enough to attract the sons of former HC hoopsters in the future I hope so.
