Hearing from some player parents that Holy Cross is implementing a policy that the air conditioning in The Luth is being shut down from 5-8PM daily to “conserve energy.” Apparently, this policy is creating issues with the team’s training sessions, especially weight training which has players throwing around heavy weights with sweat soaked hands. Someone will eventually drop a weight and break their foot.
A school with a billion dollar endowment arbitratleily shutting down air conditioning…. What a joke…

While I don’t disagree with shutting AC down being a joke, sounds like a simple fix to me. Change the time of the lifting workouts.

Aren’t those times in place to help facilitate players who are doing internships to be able to participate at times? More importantly, do the powers that be on College Hill know that it probably takes as much extra time and energy to return the temperature in the Luth to its prior setting before shutting it down as it would if you simply left in on in the first place?

Woke LibTard BS. HCFB is now in the business of winning. Turn on the AC and unleash our student ATHLETES Not necessary HHC. Careful with the political pejoratives or many of us are gonna come right after the cultural worship of the biggest group Of losers in American history (looking right at the heart of Confederacy) Coach Chesney is the most popular guy on College Hill, if not Worcester. Him, Kit and Vince will figure it out. They are not going to risk the health and safety of their players.

Wouldn't shutting down the AC for 3 hours result in greater energy usage overall since the building temperature will rise during that time? Meaning that once turned back on, the AC will need to "work harder?"
I read that its better to increase the AC's temperature than to totally shut down the AC when you leave the house during the day.

Doubt the veracity of the comment. Would like to see it in writing regarding rationale, as well from Eversource regarding ethicacy.
By the way, would not the Luth Complex be zoned based climate control, with the ability to control the Smith Performance Center to accommodate the athletes schedule, independently from the rest of the complex?
As they would say in Missouri…..Show Me !

Yah I think Ches and Grautski will figure it out. Let’s not go crazy on this. I think they both have a bit of pull and won’t risk kids getting hurt. Sure - there may have been a hiccup on a day or two.

Any reason why lifts are scheduled from 5-8 PM. Seems most lifts would be scheduled first thing in the morning from 6 to 8 AM or in the evening after 9 PM. The Coaches will figure it out if there is a temporary change in schedule until camp begins for all varsity teams in a couple of weeks.
No sense spending time on a story that may not have any legs. Again…Show Me the data and the rationale from Facility Management.

To give us a better appreciation of the hard work our football players put in lifting weights, could one of our football alums/experts give us a ballpark recap of the lifting they do? You know— reps & weights for bench press, squats, etc? Since it no doubt varies by position/player maybe just pick one player to illustrate.

Not interested in peoples political views on this site. Many on this board I’m sure wouldn’t want to hear mine.

Rather than writing a dissertation fact checking HHC with receipts on demographic and migration trends, which my wonkish proclivities probably would. I’d rather not after discussing this stuff most days as a fiduciary advising on muni bonds while tearing into the data/financials of state and local municipalities ….I say let’s get back to football. This place is suppose to be an escape from that stuff.
Let’s rather pontificate on something that NONE of us are experts in…college football! But hot takes are welcome!

For no particular reason I always assumed that athlete's meals were provided for them during the summer. This report says otherwise. But where do the athletes prepare their meals?

I’ve told several on this board a lack of a football or athlete training table is one of our biggest shortcomings as a program. Recruiting is going so well but def hurts in that department.

My house has central air conditioning. The compressor is on a flat roof. Lifted to the roof by a small crane. And the A/C has pre-set timers so that it doesn't run continuously. The inside temperature typically drifts up by several degrees over the course of a hot summer day. Major utilities often ask customers with large A/C units to reduce usage during periods of high demand on hot summer days. High demand in the summer often peaks when people return home at day's end, and crank up the A/C. This is not an issue limited to Massachusetts, or the Northeast. www.texastribune.org/2023/06/20/ercot-texas-grid-heat/If turning off the A/C at the Luth for three hours between 5-8 PM results in a rise in the indoor temperature of more than several degrees, then they ought to tear Luth down and sue the architect because it is a woefully inefficient building, from an energy standpoint.

My assumption was they lived in a dorm and ate in kimball/lower kimball, took a class or two of summer session, and worked out up in the Luth.

Definitely a minority of the 97 are taking summer classes.
