Crucius what a great description
Agree with dharry the game will be close and they have talent. I think they and all of our opponents will try and use the clock so Sluka and the offense stay off the field
A win on Saturday will be a great step forward

Still trying to convince my son to attend. He does not want to give Yale one cent or more for their coffers…. Planning to be there…even though I do no like the Yale game day experience. The staff is surly, the seats give you splinters, and they overcharge for parking and a bottle of water. Only reason to set foot in that decrepit relic is to support the guys who wear purple. Beat Yale!!!! What do they hit you for parking down there? I know the media lot is a hike from the press box...

Neither is Calvin Hill or Rich Diana (what a show he put on at Fitton Field.) Yale 29-Holy Cross 28 on October 10, 1981 was one of the best games I ever saw at Fitton. I can't find a box score but Diana ran for 1442 yards that ten game season when Yale went 9-1 and finished #5 in 1-A, their last year in the bigs before moving down to 1-AA to keep the Ivy league together as only four of eight teams met 1-A requirements and the league had to all move down to stay together. www.nytimes.com/1981/12/05/sports/ivy-league-is-forced-to-lose-major-team-football-status.html

Not sure about all the negativity about Yale experience other than that our teams haven’t always been successful down there.
First experience for me was a win with Dick Giardi and company in ‘66 (or ‘67?).
Look, I just pre-paid a very reasonable $10 to park in lot A where I’ve parked before and as close as it is from the HC baseball field to Fitton. Paid $14 each for senior general admission tickets.
As for the staffers, they have always been as polite as anywhere else - to us anyway - while wearing purple/Crusader garb.

Is there a shuttle from the train station to the stadium? Short answer and in my experience no. There's a Yale Shuttle but it doesn't get you near the bowl. I'll probably take a taxi from the train station and then uber back after the game. If there is a game day (or otherwise) shuttle I'd like to hear of it.

Anyone have any experience parking in Lot D or Lot A? Lot A is marked for visitors and actually looks a little closer to the Bowl. Any idea which is better?

Anyone have any experience parking in Lot D or Lot A? Lot A is marked for visitors and actually looks a little closer to the Bowl. Any idea which is better? I went down for the game in 2021. I remember pulling into D and being told that I had to park in A. A was fine and not too bad. In other news, it is Friday morning and Yale has still not posted any game notes or a two-deep. Is this unusual? Even the Patriot League teams seem to post something on Thursday before a game. I have to say, after pouring over most of the Yale football website, our engagement, news stories, and social media posts are far more robust than that of Yale.

I've parked in Lot A multiple times (at least the last two games we played down there and whenever the last couple were before then). It's in a slightly lower level than the stadium but when/if you park there, you will find a sea of purple people and you simply walk up a slight inclined dirt driveway, cross the street and you are at the ticket booths and gates. Really, in many ways, easier than at HC. Knowing you, you'd want to associate more with Holy Cross fans than Eli fans, so park in lot A.

Sluka's confidence has been a driving force for Holy Cross as Crusaders prepare for Yale Jennifer Toland Worcester Telegram & Gazette
Holy Cross quarterback Matthew Sluka runs for a first down versus Boston College. By the time Holy Cross senior quarterback Matthew Sluka was on the Alumni Stadium field to warm up before last week’s game against Boston College, the music in his headphones morphed from relaxing and chill to bass and beats.
The rap and hip-hop got Sluka going, but he was completely calm, and he did not miss a pregame throw.
“There were no defenders,” Sluka said with a laugh after Tuesday’s practice at Kuzniewski Field, “I should be on the money, but, yeah, I was really locked in.”
Against the Eagles, Sluka was a warrior while completing 10 of 15 pass attempts for 130 yards, rushing 19 times for 135 yards and putting the Crusaders in position to beat BC for the first time in 45 years.
More:'That’s my dude': Holy Cross quarterback Matthew Sluka focuses on senior season
Reminiscent of his past performances against UConn in 2021, and Buffalo and Fordham last season, no moment or situation loomed too large for Sluka against HC’s historical rival and ACC foe.
“He’s just the most confident player I’ve ever played with,” HC junior running back Jordan Fuller said. “No matter who the opponent is, BC or whoever else, he always feels like we have the best chance to win as an offense, and it’s really great to go to battle with him.”
Holy Cross trailed the Eagles by three when severe weather halted the game for more than two hours with 1:58 left. After the delay, the Crusaders, who had the ball at their own 25, came out raring.
“(Offensive coordinator Dean) Kennedy had the perfect script ready to go,” Holy Cross coach Bob Chesney said. “We felt strongly we would be able to continue to move the ball.”
After play resumed Holy Cross’s Mathew Sluka evades a seas of Boston College defenders for a first down on Saturday September 9, 2023 at Alumni Stadium in Newton. On first down, Sluka took off.
“It was hard not to think he was taking it all the way,” said Fuller, who was on the sideline during the play. “He’s done it so many times, I kind of just instantly thought, ‘Let’s a get a defensive stop and get out of here,’ but things happen.”
On his way to the end zone, behind which HC’s rabid fans waited, Sluka stepped out of bounds at the BC 40.
Two plays later, BC’s John Pupel forced the ball from a running Sluka, the Eagles recovered, ran the clock and escaped with a 31-28 win.
“I told him after the game,” Fuller said, “that we’re not even in this position to win a game without him. It was a tough play, but we’re there because of him.”
In the closing seconds, Chesney consoled a crouching Sluka on the sideline.
Holy Cross coach Bob Chesney consoles Matthew Sluka after he fumbled resulting in a turnover to Boston College and ending the game. “He just kept saying, ‘Keep your head up. It’s all good,’” Sluka said. ‘“It’s unfortunate, but don’t let it affect you, don’t let it bring you down or the team down, and don’t let it stop you from being a great player.’
“You go from there,” Sluka said, “and you learn.”
By Sunday, the No. 5/6 Crusaders had moved on from the disappointment at Boston College and shifted focus to this week’s game at Yale, the defending Ivy League champion.
“Obviously they are a really good team,” Sluka said. “We just have to be well prepared and ready to fight.”
Sluka helped lead Holy Cross to wins over the Bulldogs in each of the last two seasons.
In HC’s 2023 opening win against Merrimack, Sluka, the Patriot League preseason Offensive Player of the Year, was 9-14 for 190 yards and two TDs, and he carried 14 times for 91 yards.
Hero Sports FCS ranked Sluka as the highest-graded player at his position after Week 2.
Sluka is a captain this season, and, over the last couple of years, Chesney has praised Sluka, a dual threat who relied heavily on his running skills early in his career, for his development into a complete quarterback and team leader who exudes the team’s confidence.
“He is a fierce leader,” Chesney said. “You go back to his high school/prep school days, he never lost a game. He gets here and he has the ability to keep elevating this team. His confidence is through the roof. His progression has been phenomenal. When he first got here, he was really just a runner. Now, he can do everything we’re asking him to do.”
Yale can't be overlooked Yale, the defending Ivy League champion and preseason favorite to repeat, plays its 2023 opener against Holy Cross.
Kickoff is at noon Saturday at the Yale Bowl.
Yale returns most of last year’s eight-win team, including left tackle Kiran Amegadjie, the Ivy League preseason Player of the Year, quarterback Nolan Grooms, the 2022 Ivy League Player of the Year and running back Joshua Pitsenberger, the ’22 Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
The Bulldogs had the No. 2 scoring defense (19.5 ppg) in the Ivy League last year.
Holy Cross is seeking its fourth win in five meetings with Yale.
“We are going to have to hold on tight,” Chesney said. “A lot of these kids had Holy Cross offers, they had Boston College offers, and they had Power 5 offers, and they chose to go to Yale. They are probably just as good, if not better, than the team we just saw last Saturday. We better be buckled up.”
Yale coach Tony Reno, an Oxford native who starred at Worcester State, is in his 11th season as Bulldogs coach.
Reno has guided Yale to Ivy League titles in three of the last five seasons.
“He does a great job overall,” Chesney said. “His ability to evaluate talent is very high, and their ability acquire that talent and develop that talent all stand out.”

I went to the games at Yale in 2019 and 2021. I parked in parking lot A next to a really nice tennis stadium. In 2019 the tennis stadium also served as the visitor’s locker room. We were close to the team. In 2021 it was not used as the visitor’s locker room. The tennis stadium is now called the Westville Music Bowl. I’m using 45 Yale Avenue for GPS for parking lot A. Both years the tailgates were great . We have parking lot A to ourselves. Nothing but PURPLE!!!

They are massive with lots of experience and seniority. Ches saying talent comparable to BC and I don’t think it’s much hyperbole. This is going to take EVERYTHING we got. HAVE TO WIN THE TURNOVER BATTLE. Even being -1 in takeaways could lead to some long faces on Saturday afternoon/evening.

I am not sure on agility, etc., but I am looking forward to watching the trenches tomorrow. I remember reading somewhere about 20-something 5th year players on Yale, but I only see "Sr." listed on the roster. Does anyone know if they (Yale SID) simply group true seniors and 5th years together as "Sr?"

I'd be willing to bet big money (and I don't bet) that Yale does not differentiate a 5th year vs. a "traditional" senior. A senior is a senior. At OSU, very rare for anyone to graduate in 4 years and that goes back 20-25 years ago and certain they never made a distinction of a player being there 4 or 5 years. We, in the PL, like to make that distinction . . . . but we answer to a higher authority.

Yale has a legit NFL caliber guy on their OL, but I still think our offense will be too much for them to handle.
I'd probably be taking HC if I was allowed to bet on the game. I think it'll be something like 35-24 in our favor.

On Massey's matchup tool, although we are favored slightly by one (virtual toss-up), we "lose" a 7 game series 4 games to 3 with some pretty high scoring affairs. I guess that is why games are not played on paper or by computers and are a single game! Good luck and safe travels to all attending in person. Hoops, if it did, that would be a clear contradiction of the Ivy's repeated statements that they do not treat athletes differently than other students. Are you implying they do?
