Massey makes Georgetown a 15 point favorite (80-65) for this one with a 91% chance for the win.

I'm willing to bet that our team FT% will be better against the Hoyas than it was against Siena. Anybody with me?

Serious question: should Paulsen bring in a sports psychologist/free throw shooting guru for a session (or two or three) with the guys?

Maybe they can do that meditation thing that Josh Sankes did. Although not sure that helped Josh... I don't recall.

Depends on who is taking the FTs. I think historically, our better FT shooters aren't the ones who get fouled but our not-so-good ones do. Likely not coincidence. I'll defer to KY to statistically confirm my hypothesis as I'll be leaving for Worcester momentarily.

If the FT shooting doesn't improve we can expect to see a lot of Hack-a-Louth and Hack-a-Bo at the end of games.

Isn’t free throw shooting a fundamental function?

Isn’t free throw shooting a fundamental function? Yes, but some people have a mental obstacle to shooting them. The yips, if you will. On the other hand you have Rick Barry, who could hit 9 out of 10 free throws blindfolded.

Josh Sankes did show marked improvement his senior year
FR @ Rutgers= 3-12= ,250 So @ Rutgers=3-11= .273
JR @ HC= 124-283= .438 absolutely dreadful SR @ HC= 122-211= .578 still weak but much better than junior year.
He took 72 fewer free throws as a senior while playing 126 fewer minutes., so maybe his improved FT shooting caused teams to pare back the Hack a Shaq?? In any case the improved FT shooting percentage resulted in one extra point per game (any coach would kill for that) versus what he would have scored at the JR year percentage.
One guy who really improved as a FT shooter was my all-time favorite Crusader Torey Thomas. He shot well as a freshman with limited attempts. Then playing big minutes as a soph and junior he was around .680, pretty average. As a senior he go to the line a lot more and shot a stellar .771

The guy that worked with Josh Sankes is still around, Wasn't that you, Tom? My percentage would be more comparable to the 25% from Monday. Not quite the qualification to help the .438 Josh A guy by the name of Ron Perry '54 worked with Josh during the summer between his junior and senior years

So far only 3 people have attempted a free throw, one of whom is 1-2.
Bit premature to say the entire team has the yips or can't shoot a free throw, imo. I won't begin to defend the 1-5 performances, but for all we know the freshmen will be fine at it.

Montgomery was one of the 1 for 5's, but if last year is an indicator, he should do better than 20 percent for the year

I brought this up because during the game the announcer mentioned that we were next to last in all of D1 in FT% last year. And we have a lot of those guys still playing. Hoping the new coaches and frosh can show a big improvement.

Last season Gerrale Gates took 1/3rd of the team’s free throw attempts. While he was a very capable FT shooter his first two seasons with HC (around.750) he had a very poor season connecting at only .572. Strange. The rest of the team shot .647.

FTR has been a problem for Holy Cross since the contact-avoidant Carmody years.
Puts one in mind of the Woody Allen joke. Two women are having a meal in a restaurant. One woman says, "The food is really awful here." "I know." the other replies, "And such small portions."

Bo has such a smooth shooting form from 3. Classic and barely touches the net. Then from the foul line, clank!

Been aware of that joke (from Annie Hall), might have even used it here at some point. Other good one, IIRC (attributable to Groucho Marx but Woody definitely used it): "I would not belong to any organization that would have someone like me as a member".
