I am both sad for Holy Cross and its alums, fans and students but happy that Coach Chesney’s hard work and success is being rewarded for what can only be considered a promotion. My hope is that this is the right move at the right time for his family.

The real Coach Chesney were the Patriot League Championships we won along the way.
Best of luck to Coach Chesney but we need to win that 7th Consecutive PLC without him.
Let's hire Chris Smith back, I can personally verify he knows all the words to the school song.

If anyone outside of this region wanted some proof that Bob Chesney could coach, all he/she would need to do is watch 2 highlight clips: 1) the 2018 BC game, and 2) the 2023 BC game. If that doesn't illustrate his ability to run a program, I don't know what does. Good luck coach.
Now let's get the right guy!

Any good coach quickly tires of the sludge that is the PL. No casual fans find it worth the effort. Yet it’s the perfect fit for Holy Cross.🙄

The PL is not the perfect fit for Holy Cross. The attendance at Fitton Field is not what it was back in the Duffner years. The students do not support either football or basketball.

They showed up for the BC game and actually went into the stadium. Big Game Boomer on social media in a Rare FCS post spotlighted our student section. We saw decent crowds last year but unfortunately students and those not on the message board are literally the definition of fair weather fans. Little rain? Better party or studying? Nope they won't show up. Winning + good weather=17k fans.

Agree, but Kit gave a very succinct answer when I posed the question at our reunion everyone was thinking of asking......."would we consider a switch in conference affiliation " The answer was a resounding " NO " !!! Fixed it for you

Still in the "anger phase" but I'm more and more realizing he almost had to move this year....Sluka, Dobbs and Coker (and many others) aren't walking through that door come August and the bloom would have probably been off his rose somewhat this time next year.
Nature of the biz....let's hopefully get a Ray-Bans 2.0 or a close facsimile.

Yet it’s the perfect fit for Holy Cross.🙄 Just because you choose to triple your salary and accept a promotion doesn't mean you were tired of the position that got you there. It wasn't being 5-1 in the PL that kept HC out of the playoffs, it was being 2-3 in the OOC schedule that kept the Crusaders home this year because if we were 4-1 OOC or likely even 3-2, we would have been in at 9-2 or 8-3. In our strongest sport of football HC was not too good for the PL. We got beat by a better PL team for the auto-bid this season. Which league do you think would be better for Holy Cross as a full sport member and what are the reasons why they would accept us? I can't pinpoint a conference that would be better for HC and that would accept HC. I think the NEC would accept us but wouldn't necessarily improve us.

And that could easily be next year. On another topic, I’ve been struck by the similarities between Chez and Rick Carter (age, enthusiasm, up-the-ranks as head coach of progressively larger programs, ex-coach fathers on the sidelines, Holy Cross turnaround, Holy Cross W-L percentage, I-A/FBS offer, etc) and I’m hoping for one more. Carter’s HC legacy was his superstar players/recruits that carried some of Duffner’s best teams (Kelleher, Lockbaum, McGovern, McCabe, Wiley, etc.). Hopefully we have that sort of superior talent on our roster in the wake of Chesney’s departure.

If we can keep the rest of our current commitments from this upcoming class, we'll have a lot of talent.

The overall won-loss record of the league sports we would be offering them might not be attractive to the CAA, and earning a mbb or wbb auto-bid would be 50% harder if we did get accepted. I am wary of a fifteen team, one bid basketball conference. As far as the CAA for football only, I think their associate members for football only come from schools whose primary conference does not offer football. It would be a big bowl of awkward for a school from a conference sponsoring football to request to play in another football conference in the same subdivision, while playing all other sports in the primary league. Especially if that would reduce the incumbent league to six football teams, only four of which are full league members and potentially start a death spiral for football as a conference sport.

Some of those Carter superstar recruits were walk-ons, so you need elite coaching to develop those future stars...
