It is over because he has signaled that he is gone or soon gone. That handcuffs recruiting and recruiting is the lifeblood of college sports.
All the great Coaches (Wooden, Knoght, K) always said: " I won so many games because I almost always had the better players."
Now he is in a recruit's living room with the "You can have it all" message (a great one BTW) and the recruit knows that he is kissy face with other girls and more than willing to exit "you can have it all" land.
Unsustainable

There was a tweet that just came out that Bob Chesney is going to James Madison.

Here's the tweet:
Don't think this guy has any sources, but at this point I'm expecting it.
I'm also expecting Kit to become their AD later this year. I really hope HC is prepared to handle this.

No one is bigger than the program, Teamer, Chesney included.
Coaches and players come and go, but the program is always there. What we have tried to build is a program that is stable and competitive nationally regardless of who the head coach is.
So, actually, I think you can still "Have it All" at Holy Cross.

FWIW, I'm still tracking flights and a few JMU accounts. Haven't seen anything concrete yet, but smoke seems there and very real.

We call this free market capitalism. Despite much of what is transpiring currently in our nation and the world at large, I am still a proponent of this system. Any coach who would state otherwise regarding speaking to the comp (both competition and compensation) is either exceptionally naive or a liar.
Seamore Butts? From 3 hours ago? Too funny. He must have an exclusive.
Don't take the bait.
As I wrote yesterday to a current friend/fan of the Crusaders:
"If he stays, fine. If he leaves, that's fine too. Ultimately he is responsible for looking out for himself and his family. That is how this all works. If he leaves, we thank him and we will remain friends and fans. The HC job will remain a very attractive position and will attract significant interest from a number of very qualified candidates. In the process, the new coach will point to some of our recent Crusader grads and soon to graduate and say, "look what can happen both on and off the field." Always play the long game. The weather tomorrow is partly sunny. I am confident that the sun will come up and life will go on and it will be another 'great day to be a Crusader' whether BC is still our coach or not."

Same plane that came to Worcester from VA on Monday is scheduled to land at ORH Wednesday at 9:09am per FlightAware. I think that was yesterday's flight.

I don't think we should take Seamore Butts as a definitive source.

I think there is enough smoke. The guy is an engaged JMU guy if you look at his posts. That's simply his Twitter name. I'm not saying it's set in stone, I'm just saying the school should be prepared to move on at this point.
HC has families coming in on Friday. If it's true they need a plan for messaging and they would need a coach in place to get kids signed by 12/20. Simply stating facts because HC doesn't grow through the portal.

Knight, and Wooden, both were bigger than the programs.

From what I can gather, it's either Chesney or Corey Heatherman, OR Chesney as HC and Heatherman as DC.
If that's the case I'd expect we can hold onto Scott James. Not sure if he'd be the choice as HC, but keeping him around would do nicely for consistency. I think Coach DiMike is another who'd stick around and he seems like one of our best recruiters so I imagine he'd be playing a big role.
I think if/when we hear the news, we need a coach locked up within 24 hours, otherwise this could quickly spiral on us.

Duffner not a fair comp at all actually. I was there. Scholarships ended. He really had no choice but to leave.

After living through the aftermath of the Willard Era and suffering through most of the Berard Era in hockey, I do hope we began executing our "plan" and preparing weeks ago during the Syracuse rumors. We need someone dynamic and who exudes Holy Cross for this most critical recruitment time period. Having gone to a JMU game in the past and perhaps a fondness for the color purple I will happily cheer Chesney on. I do think he would have a chance at a P5 job next year if he were not to depart. I wish him nothing but success and considering the funding and the success this year, there is no need for a rebuild I think he can have some immediate success. I still think we have unfinished business with our own program and our ascent to the top of the mountain. I think it is possible to be both happy for someone and a tad disappointed at the same time.

I will keep beating the Chris Smith drum as our next HC until I hear he doesn't want it. He'd easily be the best choice, imo.
I'd be fine with others, honestly, I just think he's the clear and away best choice right now.

Unsustainable Whether it's today, tomorrow, next year, or the year after, we've all known that Chesney would be moving on at some point. That's the irony of his success from HC's standpoint. The better the team does, the more attractive Chesney becomes to bigger programs. As it turns out, we struck gold in hiring him. Whether we will have nearly the same success in finding his replacement, we shall see when the time comes.

Does anyone know if there is an 'exit fee' in BC's contract with HC ? i.e. JMU owes HC some $ If not, that was a mistake in the most recent extension/raise negotiated last year

Losing Ches will hurt no doubt....but I'm pretty sanguine overall with the trajectory of a Holy Cross football program with scholarships.
It's really only during the non-scholarship era (roughly 1992-2014) where we struggled mostly as an FCS program. I realize this is a different world today (transfer portal/NIL etc) than it was during the 1980s but with the new facilities, administrative support, alumni support (90-wide etc) I believe HC can continue to be a very strong FCS program moving forward.
Chesney has done a phenomenal job in restoring HC football to past glory....if it's time to pass the baton, let's get it done the best way possible and keep pushing this movement forward.

Don't want to be a pain but the facts are... From 1963 to 1980 HC had 3 winning records. Coach Cater's first season in 1981 HC posted its fourth. The wonderful golden era of the '80's-early 90's and BC's recent success have not been the rule.
