Great list for the job
It is important that we don’t over think this process
We have to pick the right coach and have a sense of urgency.
A search that goes deep into the next week doesn’t work for us in terms of potential portal departures and the early signing period. I am confident a plan is in place to get this done ASAP

Chris Smith is obviously the guy. Toerper is a great choice as well. I like Tony Reno. He's a local guy. NO to any Ivy coach....Why would he come anyways? He has to win one game a year and unlimited resources. He lives in Sturbridge. We can choose to pay him more if we want. And at some point he expressed some disappointment that he couldn't prove himself in the playoffs. I honestly think he would be a huge grab for HC.

I've come around on Reno and think he warrants an interview. Still think there are better options than him, though. Optically, do we want our next coach to be a guy that our previous coach coached circles around?

My short list in order: 1. Smith 2. Toerper 3. Reno 4. Caruso This. This is the list. Don’t make it complicated, Kit.

Also, he grew up watching games at Fitton and I've heard was a huge HC fan growing up. Pay him more than Yale and give him some slack to make waves in the FCS.

I would love Reno as a backup to the Chris Smith option. As a local guy that knows how to recruit at the FCS level. He does manage to outcoach a certain someone from Allston/Cambridge, so that is a plus.

We have played Yale in their first game every year. Definitely has helped us.

My Opthamologist is a Yale grad who played bball there and remains very close to the Athletic dept - for what it’s worth he has a very low opinion of Reno personally or professionally

He delivers results... Also, I'm sure the fact that Reno is not an Ivy League grad, some snooty Yalies will be tweaked by that.

Kit has some very good options that know what it takes to win at Holy Cross. Grunell, James, Smith, Toerper - all from the Chesney tree will bring continuity to the program. No need for unrest with a decision being made quickly.
Best of luck Bob ! Thankyou from Crusader nation - may you always wear Purple !

I disagree in that we shouldn't make a move quickly. We shouldn't hire the first person that asks for the job, but we absolutely need to move on this with commits coming in the next two weeks and the portal only being open for a little bit longer. The more we wait, the more we risk losing commits and players.
There's a good bit of groundswell for Smith on twitter right now. I hope we can make it happen, but either way we need a coach in ASAP.

Chris Smith is a great Crusader and excelled as an offensive coordinator. However, he has no head coaching experience. I’m not ruling him over it but I think we should be cautious

Bring Chris Smith home!!! He’s a great coach and loves holy cross. Would be an amazing hire for the program. He also knows the kids and should be able to keep most from transferring.
If not him, think Mike toerper would also be a great fit. He’s doing a great job at Ithaca and was very well liked during his time at HC

I think we can rely on the likelihood that Ches was straight with Kit over the last few weeks that he was looking around and therefore we should be in a position to move quickly

Ok so Kyle Barnes even liked a tweet saying bring back Chris Smith, along with a few player moms.
I'm completely all in at this point

I should clarify - a decision should be able to be made quickly, so unrest or panic does not set in. Quality candidates are within Kit's office door, in my opinion.

Go get Nunzio Campanile (interim head coach) from Syracuse.
There are many factors in success but the grafts of HC football success and how well we recruit from northern NJ Catholic high schools are parallel
He's perfect!

According to Jake Springer and flight tracker Flight N525DP leaving from Lynchburg at 10:28am today for Worcester, MA Turning right back around and landing in SHD at 1:32pm. It appears that JMU has found their coach. Hope I am wrong but it doesn't look good for us. Hopefully ADKH is already on the phone talking with possible candidates. The Telegram just published an article that Chesney is gone.

I like Smith for the continuity factor, ties to HC and other notable attributes.
Would have to think this is an opportunity he'd want/aspire to but who knows?

Need more college head coaching experience preferably. He's only six years removed from coaching high school ball.

Campanile received high praise from Fran Brown who said he fully intends to keep him on the Syracuse staff - he's highly qualified and has acted as an interim head coach more at Rutgers and Syr - I like this idea
