Biggest question we don’t know yet is the length of the contracts. I would think Jay would be for three years and CJ potentially four years.
Liam Anderson’s initial contract with the Colts was for three years and 2.7 million. But since he didn’t clear the incentive ( # of weeks active), he’s now on a year to year contract basis.

CJ has signed a 4 year contract this morning for $4,104,784. Base salary of 795k this season. Guarantee with signing bonus not yet released.

CJ still has to compete in training camp to make the 53 man roster, correct?

CJ still has to compete in training camp to make the 53 man roster, correct? Very much so. The contract is null and void if he doesn’t make the 53 man. That’s why the guarantee number is so important. The Chiefs will likely bring in a couple veteran IOL FAs to compete but as of right now he’s the #2 RG on the projected depth chart behind Trey Smith (who’s rookie contract is up after this season and the Chiefs likely won’t be able to afford to re-sign since he’s been a star/steal these first 3 years.)

I perused all UDFA contracts that are now public. There are only 4 (out of hundreds) that guaranteed a player more than Jalen’s 250k for 2024. He’s in a GREAT spot to make an impact.

Can you say Steve Smith? Loves everything about Jalen. Has BIG TIME clout with the Carolina organization. Jalen is in great shape. To top it off, the Panthers are Jalen's father's favorite team.

Smith must have been very happy when Jalen went undrafted.

And Steve Smith and Morgan played together, hence the almost immediate signing.....all the stars are aligned for success

And the Chiefs moved up to take Suamataia at Tackle with Donovan Smith unsigned.....he may start immediately, as KC has a history of OL starting out of the gate ( Creed Humphrey, Center from Oklahoma. )....With Joe Thuney on the back nine of his his career, CJ has a shot.....

Will be very interesting to watch how the teams make financial decisions with the roster over the next two or three weeks and again later in August

One thing to watch for Asante.
Darius Slayton is currently skipping workouts in hopes of a new contract. The Giants don't seem to be in any rush to give him a deal though, so a trade is a possibility. Asante would be one of the guys they'd be looking to fill in those snaps if such a scenario were to occur.

After drafting Nabers and passing on McCarthy, and after a rather pedestrian 2023 season, if I were Slayton, I wouldn't be fooling around.....but hey, that could be an opportunity for Asante

He was quoted several times about Jalen’s route running, especially vs. BC. All the stars are probably aligned for him to make the 53 man roster. Don’t know about team success. Will depend in large measure on Bryce Young’s improvement over his rookie year performance. Was hoping the Lions would draft him or sign him to pair him with Kalif.

Asante gets $4k in guarantees from NYG. Should help reinforce just how highly Carolina thinks of Jalen.

As I stated before, Jalen has the 4th highest guarantee of any UDFA at 250k. The highest is Colorado State CB Chig Anusiem. Commanders guaranteed him 350k. Numbers 2/3 are a DT from FAU and OT from Wyoming at 280k and 275k respectively.

The $250K guaranteed salary essentially means that the team is certain that the player is going to at least stick with their practice squad for a year because that’s the salary for practice squad guys, right?

Correct. 225k is the 17 week practice squad salary for 2024. Plus, they gave him an up front 25k signing bonus to sweeten the pot.

The $250K guaranteed salary essentially means that the team is certain that the player is going to at least stick with their practice squad for a year because that’s the salary for practice squad guys, right? Maybe. This is chump change for an NFL team. It seems as if they like him and hopefully it means he'll at least be on the practice squad, but if a team ends up believing a player has no future with them, or the player gets hurt, they'll write him a check and have somebody give him a ride to the airport.

Of course injuries are a wild card or Jalen getting the catch yips in camp a de minimis possibility. But we’ve seen Jay play long enough to know that his floor is likely a practice squad and ceiling probably not just making a 53 man but starting to get some reps by mid season.
