Shaun O'Hara with a lot of love for CJ during his drill
He also basically works for the Giants still. I really wouldn't be surprised for the Giants to use a day three pick on CJ.

There's a few NTs out there I do not want a rookie CJ going up against 😂

Consecutive drills now O’Hara has stopped his train of thought to highlight CJ. He’s definitely on the G Men’s radar. Jersey boys!!

Jalen and CJ both scored “Elite” for their composite explosion grade.
Coach Grautski combined with an outrageous work ethic and good genes.

Ches is there for Jay and CJ. Those are his guys. JMU players of years past are not.
Also probably not a bad place to network. He’s spent time traveling and studying NFL practices past several years.

Interesting. But I confess I have no interest in this year's JMU grads. Next year, with HC graduates helping out Coach Chesney and JMU, that will be a different story for me.

Of course no one here has interest in JMU grads. And frankly neither does Bob expect for good publicity for JMU. It’s moot anyway cause none were there yesterday or today.

Ironic that Chesney is sort of taking a step down as far as the most current NFL prospects are concerned.

Let’s hope Curran brings on a few more combine prospects over the next couple years. Let’s go Coach Curran!!

Ironic that Chesney is sort of taking a step down as far as the most current NFL prospects are concerned. Its only a step down if next year's roster doesn't have any NFL prospects, who cares about the 2023 roster which he had nothing to do with?

SVP on the (very) early SportsCenter today noted that the deepest talent pool at the Combine was in the WR and OL positions. The banner at the bottom of the screen showed five WRs projected to be drafted with the first twenty-six picks next month.

Ironic that Chesney is sort of taking a step down as far as the most current NFL prospects are concerned. You are going to have to wait ~5 years to make any kind of comparison. Looking at 2023 in a vacuum is apples and oranges. Chesney looks to have 4 players currently in the NFL. Coker, Hanson, Anderson and I’ll give him Whitley even though BW was a Gilmore recruit (but Ches developed him for 4 years.) If Newman, Dobbs and / or Sluka get a shot in ‘25, they would add to his HC total. I would say given JMU’s level of competitiveness, they should have at least double over the next 5 years. So 10-12 to the league in the next ~5 years would be my standard if I was JMU.

Chesney also has two players from his Assumption days in the NFL as well.

Does Curran have any players in the NFL?? I looked and couldn’t find any Merrimack players currently in the NFL. The site I used seemed current as it had Kalif, Benton and Liam as the three from HC, which I think is everyone currently on a roster or at least who ended last season with a team.

Chesney also has two players from his Assumption days in the NFL as well. So one could argue, applying the logic of some other posters, at the time he took the HC job it was a step down as HC only had one NFL player at that time.

How much do former players get involved in recruiting at their alma maters? Will our current NFL players and future NFL players assist with recruiting at all?

They can be valuable in that regard. I would assume they will be asked to get involved, but each person's reaction to that can vary based on who it is that asks and what exactly they are asked to do.

Yes, I'd guess they could be quite valuable. A call from NFL O-lineman CJ Hanson detailing how HC is the best place to play college football (his words) could net us a few guys who are on the fence I'm sure.

Barry Switzer sent Billy Sims to Dupree's high school. Happens all the time. It was (maybe still is, technically) an NCAA violation for a booster to be involved in off campus recruiting. Boosters were defined broadly to include former players, those who made donations, etc. I agree that it happened all the time. I think based upon the latest court cases, to which the NCAA seems to be acquiescing, NIL groups can be involved in recruiting prospective athletes so I think those rules are all out the window.
