Moose Skowron was a long time Yankee. I am unsure he ever played for the Dodgers, certainly not in Brooklyn. I do not recall Ken McMullen.

Completely agree, but Gil retired in'61, I believe.....The Dodgers retired his number much later ( well after the Mets did the same ), but its unclear Fairly ever wore # 14....I'm betting it was Skowron, or Ken McMullenMcMullen it is. He was a 20-year-old rookie with the Dodgers in 1962. After 1964, Dodgers traded him, and he went on to have a good career at third base in the American League with the Senators and Angels.

According to IMDB, the episode aired Sep 29, 1963. www.imdb.com/title/tt0649836/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_smWould assume it was made in spring training of that year. Full cast listing: Alan Young ... Wilbur Post Connie Hines ... Carol Post Larry Keating ... Roger Addison Edna Skinner ... Kay Addison Leo Durocher ... Leo Durocher Sandy Koufax ... Sandy Koufax John Roseboro ... John Roseboro Willie Davis ... Willie Davis Moose Skowron... Moose Skowron (as Bill 'Moose' Skowron) Vin Scully ... Announcer (voice) Mister Ed ... Self And according to Baseball Almanac, Skowron was #14 in 1963 www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster.php?y=1963&t=LANAnd my great aunt Elizabeth lived in the same apartment building as Gil & Joan Hodges (543 Ocean Ave) while the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn. She adored him.

Leo Durocher was a coach for the Dodgers in the early 1960’s under Walter Alston, so that’s definitely him in the picture.

The video with Mr. Ed, had a baseball actor who could have played at Fitton Field with the home team. Too bad it did not occur, would have added to the rich athletic legacy of HC.

Harder to believe it's the 3rd oldest stadium in MLB 4th oldest ?? Fenway #1 Wrigley #2 What am I missing that pre-dates the Dodgers?

It only took the Lafayette thread half a page to veer into discussions of Mr. Ed, Moose Skowron, and Don Zimmer. Impressive.

According to Warren Nolan, Lafayette comes in at 187 in strength of schedule. Other than Colgate at 200, the rest of the PL is way behind the Leopards. HC is at 342.

Leo Durocher…… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Durocher“The Durochers lived only two blocks from Rabbit Maranville, who taught Durocher the game of baseball and gave him a glove.[1] Durocher became a good athlete while in high school, and was offered a scholarship to Holy Cross, but was suspended from school after he hit a teacher, and never returned.[1] Durocher became a prominent semi-professional athlete, with several Springfield-area employers competing to have him play on their company teams.[2]”

VanerBaan is a tough matchup for HC. Caleb will have to have a solid D plan against him. Inside and outside shooter with great size.. A freshman point guard, let’s hope we are fully healthy! Trying to remember- Nelson didn't like "Vanderbomb" (and didn't recruit him after he left BC) or Vanderbaan didn't like Nelson. Or both? Hopefully not a case of preferring Simon Wilbar over him. Nelson liked Wilbar over JVB?

Nelson liked Wilbar over JVB? Was asking if anyone knew if Nelson recruited the kid when he left BC. Never thought the question would put us this off the track! Then again, we made it through an entire conversation of Mr. Ed w/o mentioning Al Skinner. OOPS!

Nelson liked Wilbar over JVB? Is it an accepted fact that Coach Nelson made no effort to get Vander Baan? We will likely never know Coach Nelson's opinion regarding the two. We do know that Wilbar spent part of a season here and Vander Baan #2 did not. No matter what the coaching staff was thinking, I don't think it's likely that any coaching staff would publicly say, "we wanted "Kid A" but settled for "Kid B". Not a great way to start a relationship with a member of your program

I never use Warren Nolan and have no idea how it is calculated, but I'm not sure how any SOS rankings wouldn't have Bucknell ranked in the same neighborhood as Lafayette and Colgate. Below are the Massey SOS ratings for the PL. Note these ratings include the four league games that have been played, which obviously make the ratings worse for the teams that have played a strong OOC SOS. Colgate 134 Lafayette 149 Bucknell 150 Loyola 275 Boston 290 Lehigh 299 American 307 Holy Cross 309 Navy 323 Army 361 Unfortunately Pomeroy's SOS can't be used because it omits the D3 games played by seven of the PL teams.

I missed the Bison at 235 in the Nolan SOS rankings. Next is Lehigh at 304 followed by the remaining 6 well into the 300's capped by AU at 362.

Leo was married to the actress Laraine Day for a number of years and may have made some contacts in the industry. His fame and charisma no doubt helped more than a little in getting those roles
