Was watching a game at Virginia Tech and noticed that they had just the Va Tech logo at center court but then had a subtle image of a few of their iconic buildings drawn on the court. I wouldn’t mind Fenwick on the Hart Floor if we could get rid of the State of Massachusetts (the outline on the floor, not the Dropkick Murphys song).

Agreed, it needs to be changed. The state of MA was a very bad idea. It would make sense on the court at UMass, not HC.

Didn’t love the state map at first. Still don’t — but have grown accustomed to it. Wonder if it could have been done differently or more creatively. That said — there are many people who have absolutely little to no clue about HC including where it is located. Some think it is Indiana in the shadow of Notre Dame.
If the map helps associate HC with Massachusetts for those seeing on video (either a full broadcast or just a highlight clip on social media etc ) then that makes sense to me.
At this point more interested in seeing continued growth of the team playing on the floor rather than fretting about the floor paint. Others may disagree.

I think he was trying to capitalize on what a bunch of other schools were doing in getting creative with their court designs — it was in vogue 6-8 years ago. Don’t hate the desire to put a little flare on the court, but poor idea with the state of Massachusetts. We aren’t UMass.

I'll gladly show up with my belt sander to assist in the removal process. tAs for replacement image(s), how about a Crusader on a horse with his lance poised to defend Christianity, or maybe just a head show of a Crusader with a lance at his side. How cool would either of these be? Has anyone ever suggested such a thing in the past?

It WOULD be very cool, Ignutz. However, there is a directly correlated proportion of "coolness" to "offensive," so if you put a big knight on horseback with a lance, somebody who can't find the Hart Center on a map would complain to the HC administration that they're a bunch of bigoted racists because a newspaper published somewhere by a bunch of ignorant window lickers ALSO uses a Crusader. Instead, we can probably do a watermark on the court of the peace sign, a rainbow flag, or a W2, since liberals like taxes to pay for everything so much! /endrant

OK. Far be it for me to bring things back to the topic and being more serious but ...
You have 94 feet to get a Holy Cross skyline on the court. What are the buildings you include?

While watching a multitude of games this season, several schools have now used a campus building motif for their basketball courts. Santa Clara University changed their floor in 2016 to show the mission chapel and palm trees on the floor. From my perspective this design for the Leavey Center floor, does not translate well to viewers of a telecast who are unfamiliar with the campus. santaclara.prestosports.com/general/2015-16/releases/20160311spyfb6Click on the image to see the full detai of the floor…. santaclara.prestosports.com/general/2015-16/photos/0001/index#&gid=1&pid=43santaclara.prestosports.com/general/2015-16/photos/0001/indexKeep the Massachusetts map on the Hart Center floor. ….I get a chuckle when on a telecast the announcer says that three point shot was from Nantucket, or Martha’s Vineyard, on the other side they may say from Great Barrington. As iconic as Fenwick is to all HC alums, very few people on the telecast will make a connection to the image on the floor in the Hart Center to the location of The College of the Holy Cross, if it was Fenwick or O’Kane or Dinand Library. Showing the map of the Commonwealth is part of the critical branding process in the recognition of the college location.

I get the map. Never bothered me one way or another. But if you're going to buildings, WCHC has almost the right shot. Can't figure out how to post the picture, but follow this link for the approximate view and go with the Chapel, Fenwick, O'Kane, and the Library. Holy Cross Skyline

I don't mind the Massachusetts outline. When I went out to the Midwest for law school, most students didn't know where Holy Cross was located (although a few thought it was Ivy, which was fun)…I don't mind the constant reminder of where we are located for anyone watching...we aren't a national brand

Further, those folks who don’t know where HC is certainly aren’t watching our games on ESPN+.

The college is trying hard to reach out to central Massachusetts folks in order to form the kind of bond with our teams and the local population that used to exist generation ago. I think this design on the court is part of that. It is about the local community.

Wouldn't want all that writing, just the inside would do at the center circle, would honor the city. And, after all, it is the Hart Center!

Not that it matters but I don't care for the amoeba like brown thing at center court. It's bush league. A simple HC or Crusader would be fine.

Egad! The heart would be an interesting...dare I say unique...touch for an athletic facility. It shows we love everybody and plays nicely on the name of the gym. How about including a rendering of Fr. Hart. And, while we're at it, since HC's roots are Jesuit, why not include a purple cross with Ignatius Loyola and Francis Xavier on each side and "In Hoc Signo Vinces" below. And why stop there? Let's consider replacing the HCs on the football helmets with purple hearts. (Hmmm, purple hearts? Maybe not!)

The Massachusetts outline is irrelevant for me. I am firmly in the “Crusader” camp, preferably including a shield with a Cross on it.

I would like a shield with a Cross better than the Shield with HC/CH. In North Carolina I was asked a number of times where I got the "Chapel Hill" CH on a shield.

After I commented earlier, I found UMass on the tube and saw the floor. Plus, on the back of their jerseys, they have the state outline as well. Not sure if MV and ACK are included, didn't look that closely. Hopefully, HC's floor will need stripping and refinishing in the next year or two. I'll be very happy with something else.

Back in the day when the floor was redone, it seemed OK if not great. Now IMHO it has run its course. I am looking forward to seeing what comes out when, as our AD, Kit makes his mark with the next make-over.
