Some final comments on Caleb. It is rare that a fan who has watched most of every game sees something new in the final game of the season. Caleb made two moves/shots I had not seen before tonight. The first was a converted floater with his right hand from 6-8 feet on the right side in the lane. He may have attempted this shot previously, but I had not seen him make it before.. Tonight he made it twice in two attempts. The next was a challenged lefty jump hook from about 8-10 feet on the left baseline. This is the furthest distance I had seen him attempt this shot from. GOOD ! (Caleb finished 7-8 on Field Goals for the game with very few dunks.) I believe he was the most valuable player, by far, on this team. He had to try to fill the roles at both ends that Gerrale did. His improvement throughout the season was most evident. Before the season who would have thought that he would make the PL defensive player of the year ?
I am sure that Caleb’s confidence in having repeatedly practiced these two moves/shots finally gave him the belief that he would take them at key times in this important game. To me this was the highlight of the season for him and the team. And to start the optimism for next season knowing he has one more off- season to develop, and one more in-season to show out.

All can and will be replaced. Let’s hope they can and will be replaced by guys whom can defend their own. We’re 362/362 this year WITH the league DPoY. Big step backwards (70 spots) this year under Paulsen. In our last really successful season, 2007, we ranked 39 in defensive efficiency according to Pomeroy.

Who got Gates' and Dorsey's minutes- why, a bunch of freshmen; who showed their deficiencies when paired against good teams (especially last night). Didn't help also that those freshmen were usually matched up against players taller, quicker and stronger; or at least two out of those three.

Will there be an end of season report card thread? Grades & comments? Was this year's team better than last year? Improved? Needs Improvement? Missed most games. ESPN+ does not travel overseas. Peace

I think the team will be better next year. It took this team time to figure who was going to lead the team after Gates graduated. Caleb and Octave were those two players
The one thing IMO to replace is someone who can create contact in the paint and get free throw opportunities - Octave and Montgomery were those players on this year's team. I don't follow the recruits very much so maybe someone coming in next year could be that "slasher" type player. Octave and Montgomery took 48% of all FT attempts this season. I don't know who currently left on this team has that in his game to pick up the slack. Caleb's FT shooting is better but Luke still needs to improve.
I still don't understand how Nugent only had 5 FT attempts all season.

I think in time Green (and maybe Richard) could be slasher types, but I wonder if their bodies will be ready next year for the transition to college.
For me I think the x factor for next year (amongst the returnees) is Ryan; I think he might have the highest ceiling for improvement.....if he can improve his body. It would be nice to have a reliable big (paired with CK) that can step outside and score. Singleton is another kid who I could see taking a nice step up.
Course, we have to wait to see what happens with possible comings and goings over the next few months.

Dave, you nailed this. Awful mic and audio issues early in the second half. Every time Records scored it was "the mayor of South Kingstown." We can add a couple of more to this list: - Braeden Smith - "Seattle Superstar"
- Ryan Moffat - "Moffat Man"
- Chandler Baker - "Baker the Maker"
John Sterling-esque with how predictable and annoying this guy is.

Hopefully overall conditioning will cure his lack of mobility. He'd be a lot better if he was 6-12 or thereabouts and not 6-8.

I still don't understand how Nugent only had 5 FT attempts all season. The team with the worst free throw rate in the country (Bellarmine) took about one free throw for every five field goal attempts (21.4%).
Nugent's FTR was 3.1% - or about one FTA for every thirty-five FGA.

Normally going up against guys taller and stronger than he is. Gates was short for the position, but was a solid wide body

Mute button It's nice that the score ticker now includes score, time, 30 second time, team fouls, time outs left...it would be nice if it also flashed for 5-10 seconds somewhere who a foul is on and how many on that guy/gal. Then I wouldn't even need the "CC" on. A lot of the broadcasters aren't very good at telling us the individual foul situation.

I'm sure the fellow now is long gone (because he seemed to be pretty old), but they had a football PA announcer that did a running commentary with the fans sitting in front of him. And he would interject stuff during the game that was really strange- like "Oh my god, xxxx is playing; I thought he was hurt so bad he was out for the season!". Just the way they do things in Beautiful Downtown Hamilton.

I agree with virtually all the comments here as they relate to next year.
The one thing I think many are overlooking is how much this team missed not having a true point guard.
Batch and Williams took their turns manning that position and the results speak for themselves.
I've always felt that the two most important positions on a team are the PG and the center.
Although undersized, Kenney did an outstanding job holding down the center position very respectfully.
Next year we get a TRUE PG in Tyler Boston. I've watched several of his games at Bullis and he will help tremendously. He is a take charge kind of player who is explosive off the dribble and sees the entire court. Also, unlike most freshman, whose bodies need a lot of maturing to compete at the college level, Tyler is solidly built and should be more prepared to take the physical bumping he is sure to face.
Glad to close the book on this season and looking forward to better seasons ahead.

Before the season who would have thought that he would make the PL defensive player of the year ? Well, he did, for one. He specifically mentioned DPOY as a personal goal in his "Holy Crossover" interview with Ben Capron. (I remember because I kind of snickered when I heard it.)

I still don't understand how Nugent only had 5 FT attempts all season.Beyond the lack of free throws, we have the issue that this outstanding shooter does not take very many shots. For example, in the last 5 games he played 137 minutes and had just 16 field goal attempts. That works out to just 4.7 FGA/40 minutes. Can you imagine a team taking just 24 field goal attempts (5 X 4.7) in a game? I do know that different players have different roles, but there has to be a way of getting more shots for this excellent shooter-be it his own effort or by offensive strategy.

I just took a look at the moribund Colgate board which had just a couple of posts about last night's game. They get a kick out of our take on the HC team - here are two posts:
"The Cross is undersized & just not very good, which makes reading their message board pretty funny." "The HC board is one of life’s small pleasures."

I read it, and I've filed it in my Every Dog has His Day folder.
I respect their current program. Still think their announcers are buffoons.

Does anyone think we will lose or gain through the portal in the off season?

I do not believe HC will lose out to the Portal. If there were some outstanding opportunity I believe our coaches would pursue that athlete, but I believe they want players they recruit and to work with them for 4 or 5 years.
