When was the last time we swept a doubleheader against Army? Certain been some time. Looked it up. Last time we took a doubleheader against Army was 2019. Last time we did it at West Point was 2017.

PL dh policy is game one 7 innings and game 2 is 9 inn. If game one goes into ext innings beyond 8 innings, then game 2 is the 7 inn. game. For some reason today, after 7 inn. game one the 2nd game was also 7

Hopefully the sweep at WP is an auspicious event...2017 was the program's best year in recent memory.

Where’s 137 when you need him?
Need to know why game two was seven innings.

Here is the recap with no mention of the 7 innings. Not referred to in the Army site recap either,( which also had no naming of any HC player) Interesting that there are 6 different field players highlighted. Also counting the 3 arms, no seniors. Army had 1 loss before yesterday. Now we are 1 game behind in the standings. Big game today. goholycross.com/news/2024/4/6/baseball-earns-doubleheader-sweep-at-army.aspx

Phreek, the games were at WP and it wasn’t raining at any time during the games. Shortened games also helps with the pitching staff depth for tmro After the game was called at seven innings, and seeing the dreary weather on the broadcast, and then reading the posts on Crossports, I checked the National Weather Service radar for NYC (the radar site is in Suffolk County). The radar showed rain showers near Poughkeepsie, and moving southward. .Not saying that was the reason the game was called at seven innings, only suggesting that might have been a factor. Is today's game scheduled for nine innings or seven? Weather should be great.

Never heard of a hand being shortened after it’s already started due to impending weather. Seven inning games are managed very differently than nine inning games. Deciding mid game to eliminate the final two innings wouldn’t happen. Now, it could be possible before the game that the umpires met with the teams and collectively decided to play a seven inning game.

I just watched the opening to game two yesterday. The broadcasters mentioned it would be a seven inning game that was determined prior to first pitch. No reason was given.

Army has plated five runs in the bottom of the first without recording an out.
Lot of baseball left, but looking like we’re coming up short here. If so, still mission accomplished taking two of four.
Why did Nesson, who got lit up on Friday by Army, start?

Looking at live stats it appears they are counting the runner eliminated in a fielders choice as a man left on base even though the inning is still in progress. If I ever knew that, I forgot it as I assumed men left on base were those who were on base when the inning ended. Learn or re-learn something new every day.

Today's game is not much of a game at all for HC. Down 18-0 in the bottom of the 5th,. I guess Army is releasing some of their frustration from yesterday. Get this one over and head for home.

Army took their starter out in the 7th inning thankfully and we managed 6 runs to limit the embarrassing final score of 21-6. ‘Run rule’ final after 7 innings

Two pitcher's duels yesterday, then the dam breaks. Fine. HC doesn't have a bottomless pitching staff but there are no four game weekend series in the playoffs or NCAA tournament I don't believe. Let Army get way more runs than HC this weekend and split the series.

The team has over performed expectations, and the bats to me have been the big surprise. More power across the full team and really gritty. Still not what I would call a power team. The pitching seems to be the real issue with depth and consistency. Coach K opened up Friday with a bullpen day and the same on Sunday. What is going on? We have two solid starters Alex Bryant and Danny M, but even they are in consistent. Lemond is the most consistent out of the pen, so it is clear they are going to try to get any 7 inning win with that combination. But after that we seem to have a lot of health and consistency issues. J Wywoda did not pitch this weekend, that is concerning. We have yet to see 1 inning from Remley or Needham, add in Scanlon out for the year and O Brown and Lion G have disappeared from hitting the bump, your left with a bunch of arms that don't look to confident. Let's hope the rest of the arms stay healthy. Still really impressive at this point in the season, even with the challenges mentioned.

Most important item you mention above is that Wywoda (a weekend starter) did not pitch at Army. He has to be healthy for us to have any chance going forward.

No Thomas Skrobe against Army, either.
He impressed me earlier in the season against Kansas State.
Would he not have been a better "opener" than Nesson?

HC sports information staff is going to have to start stockpiling synonyms for winning to go along with their file cabinet full of ones for losing. Let's build on the winning league record.
