Rutgers Basketball F Antonio Chol set to enter the transfer portal By Richie O'Leary, Publisher via RichieSRivals, 03/15/2024 Late Thursday night, The Knight Report confirmed the report that Rutgers Basketball forward Antonio Chol will enter the transfer portal with the intent to play elsewhere. Chol was originally a late addition to the 2022 recruiting class, committing to the Scarlet Knights in late July just before the team started training, coming over from Minnesota Prep Academy. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward chose Rutgers in the end over five other offers from Akron, Buffalo, Loyola-Marymount, New Mexico and St. Bonaventure. He was also drawing some interest from Marquette and Tennessee. Now Chol didn't play much in his two seasons with the...

Brian Earl is the new head coach at William & Mary. I think a lot of people that know hoops will see this as W&M hitting a home run.

I am delighted to see the presumed "top dogs" get their comeuppance. What is so great about the Big Dance is haughty gasbags like Jay Bills and even worse, the late Billy Packer, get their bubbles burst.

At least 2 kids committed to new schools 3-4 days after entering the portal in the last week. Looks a little suspicious as in perhaps a lot was going on behind the scenes before they announced they were going to transfer.

Is this the beginning of the end for those fans that merely buy season tickets and make the most modest of donations to the program? Not being critical of you folks doing all that you can to keep the program competitive; my anger is with the behemoths that created this new world. One of the coolest things for me in being a fan is the connection I've experienced over the years in getting to know the players (and their parents) a little through both events and informal conversations. Not sure I want to sell an organ just to maintain a connection going forward. Again, to you guys putting it together, no offense intended. Just seems like sweat equity isn't going to mean much anymore. On the flip side, (and I am not a fan of NIL), maybe the efforts of the Collective will help keep players and parents, at HC for four years.

In an all too familiar story, Merrimack's Northeast Conference POY plans to enter the portal after his sophomore year.

Siena fires Carm Machiarelo (we should have won that opener) after 4 win season Just checked the Siena board and they have 260 people logged in. They do have a rabid fan base. Seven frosh and sophs from Siena enter the portal.

Name the two people in the photo who went to high school together and name the high school and name that high school's most famous connection to HC. How about Spanarkel and Okoren. I am going to guess it is a Catholic HS in Jersey City and the alum is Tom Heinsohn. HS might be Union Catholic.

SMU and Ron Meyer got the death penalty for its football program 40-50 years ago for some stuff that is now considered acceptable.

Vicens and Potter say "Hello". Not even close in terms of success on the court. And who was Mr. Kaftan's running mate? My post said “frontcourt(4 and 5)” That means power forward and center. Michael was the small forward and various centers played with them, the best being John O’Connor. Marty Halsey was a pretty good center for two years with Chris and Michael.

Bearded Strongman! At least his junior year, he fit that description. That is what I was thinking when I said he reminded me of Gene Doyle. I don’t think he comes anywhere near Doyle in terms of basketball talent.

I just read about the Penn kid. HC would take him in a heartbeat were he interested. He might be one of those kids who is looking for something bigger after proving he is a legit D1 player. Name please ?everyone will understand stats ? Tyler Perkins from Landon, MD. First-team All Met, (DC), last year. (BTW, Tyler Boston was 2nd team All Met last year). Played about 30 mpg at Penn as a frosh. Averaged 14 ppg, 5 rpg and 2 apg. 6'4" and a sturdy 205. I suspect everyone will understand why I said HC would take him in a heartbeat even though we probably have greater need for a big. I have no idea if this kid has any interest in HC. We did offer him a schollie before his senior year.

The portal is really cooking. There is a frosh from Penn who just entered. Not something you see every day. He had 17 offers in HS including our Crusaders. He is a shooting guard. Hypothetical question. What if HC was his 2nd choice and he still had an interest? Would you offer him a scholarship even though he isn't a big? I was thinking along those lines today about the Patriots upcoming draft. If there are 4-5 absolute "can't miss" prospects in the draft and none are QBs, do you use the 3rd pick in the draft on one of those 4-5 players or do you take a QB who is considered a very good prospect. You are welcome. I know it wouldn't happen at HC but one thing I don't like about NIL is some schools are using it to circumvent scholarship limits.

Joe Octave makes it official by entering the portal. I was kind of hoping he'd stay for his Covid year but it's tough to pass up the free year of grad school. I am glad a year from now the "Covid kids" will have worked their way thru. We now have two available scholarships.

Rory Stewart, a 6’8”, 230 lb forward whom the prior staff recruited, (paging RJ), has entered the portal after 2 very uneventful seasons at URI. Looks like the kid is a big who can shoot the three. I recall reading on the URI board that the fandom thought he lacked the athleticism to compete in the A10. He is from London and played his hs ball at Orangeburg in Canada.

Kyrell got his now standard two minutes in, I see. If KL wants back in at HC via the portal and DP has an opening at guard due to a portal departure, should he take him? I would say yes. Would love to see how KL could attack (and serve) the PL under excellent coaching. Can the head coach let the NIL group know he would like a particular portal prospect to get an NIL offer? It seems like it's not supposed to work that way but how else do players in the portal know what they will receive at each potential new school? I believe a judge in Tennessee ruled recently that it can work the way you correctly surmised it’s not supposed to. I guess it’s now ok to offer a kid a bag of cash upfront.
