The Big East doesn't even exist anymore. How many times must we go through this? I'm not sure I was even alive when this decision was made. Let's say HC jumped ship, and lasted until now. Would they be on the same level as Syracuse and Georgetown and some of these other programs where the spend was cited to be 3-4x larger than our budget? What conference would we have joined then? The ACC, the "New Big East" American conference or whatever it's called? Would we be right back in the A-10 or PL counterpart?
Revisionist history is frustrating, and all it serves to accomplish on its most successful day is prove the un-provable right.

The only nit I can pick based on his background is that he tended to be associated with the finance side or finance department in each of his stops. His schooling is in finance. Raising funds and spending the dollars wisely is super important, obviously. But we gotta win too! Best of luck, seems to be a good hire, let's have this be a watershed moment in the latest age of HC athletics.

It's all noise until the person comes in and performs. Whether it's someone that "looks" good on paper, or doesn't, a surprise is almost equally likely-- can they overachieve or will they underachieve?
All I am looking for is accountability, and for circumstances and consequences I agree with. I want someone who will put in place people or processes that get excellent coaches that can either out-recruit the competition, out coach the diamonds in the roughs, or do both. I want someone who will be able to make sure the students graduate in 4-5 years. I want someone who will promote a big-time atmosphere around our premiere sports. And I want someone who will drop the axe if those achievements aren't met.
Worse than losses on the field will be a mediocre product across the department without any real motivation or impetus to change and perform. MAGIS BABY.

I'm interpreting the sentiment to mean: if you can get him for free, why not bring him in, let him pay for school, play basketball, then use the scholarship later/next year when you are competing for a more-highly touted player?

"A- Athletics, Party Scene"
I wouldn't grade either the same from my time.
I used to think Kimball food was adequate, and then I saw what other colleges served by way of variety and style. Ten years plus gone now, but HC was way way way behind.

There's no way I can reasonably disagree with that statement, 'hoops, but my observation at a distance is that they want to piggyback onto the whims of a social progressive movement, and not lead from a traditionally Catholic point of view. Perhaps it's the Jesuit slant. Perhaps it's a complete lack of direction or leadership. Perhaps it's a business ploy as a for-profit college, and an effort to attract a certain type of customer. I'm not even saying it's a bad thing, although I personally lean towards it being that way.
To SoV's allusion above and on topic for this thread, HC wanted a female, liberal, academic, whose expertise is in Islam. Check check check check. Many times this is an opportunity to pick a big name and bring some brand recognition to the national consciousness. Does Keanu Reeves need an honoroary degree? No, but it's fake anyway so who really cares. My first reaction to this speaker, and many others recently (including at my own graduation) was much like njcrusader's kid and friends: "Who?"

The college is trying to appease many people in the public eye too, and are coming off recently as pushovers. Stand for everything = stand for nothing.

lol for a group of guys who immediately come to the defense of anyone who is within inches of being "bashed," I'm kind of surprised at the moral pulpit on display in this thread, disparaging Tiger, saying that you can't stand him, and don't understand his appeal. Was Tiger a #@*&$~!ty person? Maybe... possibly... probably... but in a sport with no "teams" and participants that the whole country could, and does get behind, Tiger's universal appeal at his height was unparalleled, unquestioned, and unmatched since. That's why there was all the hype this weekend.
No other sport can drum up an athlete that can get universal appeal except for maybe boxing/MMA/pro wrestling at this point. Bird? Ask a Lakers fan. Magic? Ask a Celtics fan. Jordan? Ask a Knicks fan. Mike Trout? Largely in west coast TV purgatory despite being a "good" and "quiet" guy, and an all-time great. And all these heroes have had their share of personal issues too. Don't look for saints in pro sports.

wasn't bad in the mid 60s That's the standard response for basically anything regarding HC athletics on this board. In the mid 60s, I was two decades from being a speck on this earth. In the mid 60s, smoking was good for your health

The fieldhouse's dusty rubber floor was worthy of the whole thing being demolished on its own... and I spent a LOT of time in there.

It's getting sad to repeatedly see posts across FB and MBB "40 years ago this," "50 years ago that..." It's like working on Wall St. today and one of my clients or colleagues tells me "Man, you had to have been here 25 years ago for [outrageous situation A]." I'm sure you're all nostalgic. I'm just jealous.
Yugoslavia was a country 40 years ago too. I want something in my time!

If any of you had any idea what the actual story here is, many of you would have different perspectives on how this is being handled. Some of you, of course, want to tar and feather anything associated with the current regime so that perspective will never change. If you (HC AD) tell me something is important or controversial enough to warrant action, but never tell me what the event actually was, and instead say "just trust me on this," I will never "just trust you" on that thing. Without bringing the facts to life, HC brings about the need for such skepticism. Their past track record in recent years gives them no leeway or credibility with me, even if BG's alleged actions/violations were egregious in nature. If it was that much of a no-brainer, I would not expect HC to be so cloak-and-dagger about the whole situation. If their secrecy is an attempt to not slander the name and reputation of the coach after his many years of employment with the college, then the actionable offense couldn't be that bad, could it?

A) Students trashing an Uber driver's car and belongings because of any dispute should not be tolerated. B) Students cursing out an Uber driver, while clearly intoxicated, can probably be reasonably understood, but should not need to be reasonably tolerated. C) An Uber driver surprised, groaning, and complaining about picking up drunk fare from bars at 1:00 AM or later is completely outrageous. You know that you're picking up a young person (info on the Uber app). You know you are picking them up from a bar (info on the Uber app). You know it's late (info on a clock). Yes, they shouldn't be puking and blacked out asleep in your backseat. No, they shouldn't cram 5 people in the car if you're not comfortable driving them. But, you shouldn't accept a fare, drive to the location, and NOT expect some of those things to happen, only to cancel the trip on them, attempt to bill them a cancellation penalty fee, and put up an instigating video as an impartial recounting of the events. D) Some drunken athletes doing #@*&$~!ty things at HC is not a new or novel experience. However, when alcohol is involved, that behavior is not limited to or exclusive of athletes either. It has less to do with what team they play on, and more to do with what type of person they are.

If BG was suspended for bullS***, then the college can't sit back later and say his contract will not be renewed at the end of the season due to recent W/L results. They're already opened the can of worms that some "personnel" issue drove them to keep him away from coaching the latter stages of the 2018-2019 season. If they kept their mouths shut and let him coach and then chose not to renew him, there would be none of this drama and cloud over the program.
Second, if AM is the coach, she's the coach. If the interim athletic clown director did not want to appoint a full time coach, in deference to what is expected to be his successor in the role as the full time AD, then they should have either A) found a full-time AD faster, or B) not said anything about AM becoming/staying coach of the team.
The only thing worse than a bad decision in my opinion is a half-assed bad decision. Holy Cross repeatedly has been trying to appease sixteen different perspectives, and succeeding in appeasing none of them. The same folks are on the bridge during these debacles, why would we expect the ship to sail any differently?

Baseball is the last HC team that participated in the NCAA tournament and won a game against Nebraska. June 3, 2017. How soon they forget. 🤔 In deference to your point, you'd have to know in order to forget. But I think that just goes to show that on the totem pole of NCAA athletics and the (being serious for 3 minutes) national consciousness, the baseball tournament is probably below football both FBS and FCS, below men's and women's basketball, below hockey, below wrestling, below lacrosse, and maybe even lower than gymnastics. In the scheme of the northeast, where we are focused for better or worse, NCAA baseball is probably lower in the mindset of folks than reruns of Murder She Wrote (I told you, only for 3 minutes).

HC should be basketball, football, hockey. If I had to rank them, maybe basketball 1, and then football 2a, and hockey 2b.

Spring sports look like they are off to a great start! Baseball (4-19), Softball (3-17), MLAX (3-5), WLAX (3-6) have combined for a tremendous 13-47 (.217), including 3-7 (.300) in the PL! Not sure why we should ever even get around to that pesky search for a new AD with how great everything is going! ----- Edit: I just read that AIC (Apply In Crayon) won the Atlantic Hockey Championship. So that means we have now been lapped by AIC in hockey to go along with getting lapped by Colgate in MBB. Absolutely tremendous! But let's keep griping and saying that baseball, playing in Worcester in March and April, where the weather is akin to most locales' Decembers, is a sport we should pour more money and attention into relative to basketball and hockey.

All this talk about national search... remember who was saying it was a "national search." The Holy Cross Athletics Department. Nate Pine also brought HC athletics "back to the forefront of the national consciousness," remember? Just like somebody who gives themselves their own nickname (looking at you, Kobe Bryant), don't believe anyone who tells you their own accolades, achieved behind the curtains. What is said and what is done have been STARKLY different outcomes.

It's too bad half of his games + start after 10PM on the east coast. I may have seen him play outside of highlights on TV a handful of times against the Yankees and that's it.

I've never practiced so I can't tell you if it is a boon or bust. I would imagine it's not that big of a deal. And I was unaware of the price per truss, but knew either PP or someone else would know (thanks, Crucis). But I must nitpick because I'm not playing in March, and the optics of a 90 yard field and optics of a gym with a low ceiling that looks like a high school (post $90+M investment) can raise certain questions.
