To me the Olympics will always be Track and Field. Great Shot Put competition last night.
But in a sport where competitors like throwers and jumpers thrive off of the crowd the empty stadium has to be tough.

Don't tell the Cleveland baseball brass that the Guardians was the mascot of the former St. Peter-Marian High School. The woke crowd would never approve of a religious mascot.....
Should have been Spiders.

Last year Massachusetts was in drought conditions for a large part of the year.
This year we're traveling to work in canoes.
Guess everything averages out in the end.....

The Cousy Statue dedication was a great event for Worcester.
Other than the Cooz my favorite was the great Satch Sanders. Eloquent as always and looked like he could suit up and play tomorrow.

HC coaching contracts generally start on July 1, and end on June 30 the following year. If the assistant coaches were currently under contract for the 2021-22 season, and Chesney decided to fire a coach on July 4, 2021, the coach is paid for the entire season. For those who remember the BG saga, HC let his contract expire and did not renew. Head coaches contracts are often multi-year, e.g., BC's contract which will apparently expire, unless renewed, on June 30, 2022. TG was paid for the remaining period on his contract. I can't speak to staff who were furloughed during COVID. However, a furloughed coach shouldn't be able to recruit or perform coaching duties. Trainers may well have been furloughed during COVID, when there were no athletes on campus. Being on furlough, they should have qualified for the rather generous COVID-related unemployment benefits. the average weekly benefit in MA in the summer of 2020 was $1,045. ($600 of that amount was a special Federal benefit.) Pakachoag Phreek you seem to be a big supporter of ADMB. Responding to you regarding coaches getting Covid related pay. How do you feel about assistant coaches and for that matter our head coach being grossly under paid compared to the other coaches in the PL? How is it that the HC BB coach is paid more than our winning football coach? How is it that Tom Gilmore is making more money than Coach Chesney? As for contracts expiring on a set date how many coaches get their contracts torn up and renewed way before its term date? Many do. Coach Chesney and his staff and team are doing more for the exposure of Holy Cross than ANY other scholarship team on that campus. They need to be treated as such or they'll be out the door and we'll be talking about which Division 3 coach ADMB will interview for the job. There are certain people with heads in the sand that have no clue of the current athletic situation on College Hill. ADs change, Presidents change yet HC's support for athletics, especially football, is nothing more than half-way if that. Those with offices in the ancient brick buildings have no idea what they have in the current football coach.

Who gives a rat's a** what opponents think. I can't believe that this is even a consideration about night games. I want lights but maybe the AD should get the football assistants a contract first...... Then open your checkbook. The complaints and ad hominem comments on this thread are maddening. We finally have a product worth showcasing. One that the City may actually show up to support. I applaud the vision of the athletics dept. for thinking outside the box. Lights at Fitton? Sure. But on who’s dime? Ya’ll are out of touch in a number of ways...beginning with what the students and student athletes care about. The generational split here couldn’t be more obvious. Why can every Division 2 and 3 school in Central Massachusetts afford lights yet the mighty Holy Cross can't? HC's checkbook is bigger than all of them combined. I am for lights. It's ridiculous they are not at Fitton. Should have been done when the Worcester Tornadoes put the lights on the baseball field.

The first two priorities have much more to do with the PL and the AI than outlays. He is well familiar with what a money pit HE is. Incurring an additional $2 million or so in losses for playing in the HE when he is trying to fund more scollies and more money for coaches means HE membership for the men gets squeezed out. If Hockey East is such a money pit why have no schools left? There are other options that would eagerly take HE teams.

Football coaches like nothing more than trading prep time for sight-seeing.
Good grief.

If you paid attention to Chesney's tenure at Assumption he over-recruited that school and is doing the same at Holy Cross.
He is a master recruiter.

Who is running the athletic department ? No contracts for assistant coaches, grossly underpaid head coach - who wins PL championships and wants to strive and win national championships at the FCS level... The AD needs to wake up and re-sign Chesney for the good of the HC Football Program and himself ( Football is the only winning program he has ). Holy Cross has another chance to have a successful run like we had with Coach Duffner. Coach Chesney is a very special human being with extraordinary traits as a motivated leader of young men. I was at the golf outing and the talk of the day was about getting him a new long term contract with fair compensation and further support to his staff. I can envision many alums going to the Board of Trustees to take supportive action in the near future. Personally, I feel this is the last piece of the puzzle to insure the football program's success into the future. This is embarrassing.

The BC-Bama home and home in the 80s (83-84?) last time they played each other?
Wasn't that power failure game in a monsoon?

Yes, but a very big part of college coaching is recruiting--so we shouldn't penalize Coach Wooden for landing Kareem, Walton, et al. By the way-- John Wooden coached 11 consensus All America players. Who can name the first one he coached (without looking it up)? Of course Wooden was a great recruiter....for the second half of his long UCLA tenure. He was able to secure great talent to UCLA. He had four undefeated teams. I don't care what your talent is that's amazing.

If it was not a full max of 144 golfers then it was only a few short of that. Equally as impressive as the turnout are the spread of years (grads from 1955, the early ‘60s and to the present) and the many who came in from real distance (CA, Chicago, FL and many points in between). Also equally impressive was Coach Chesney. What a enthusiastic bright young leader of men. Holy Cross is fortunate to have him leading our football program. Everyone who really cares about the program should be shouting from the mountain tops to anyone who also cares that he should have his contract ripped up and they should re-sign him and his staff to extensions. WITH Pay Commiserate to other coaches in the Patriot League. This is a BIG problem. HC has a great staff that will undoubtedly move to bigger and better things down the road. They don't need to make it sooner rather than later.

IMO Bob Knight was the best COLLEGE coach ever. Recruited talent to fit his system. Great in-game coach.
I was always of the thought that Dean Smith and Mike Krzyzewski were under-achieving coaches. Take UNC. The talent on that team in the 80s alone was absolutely ridiculous and they won one title....partly because Georgetown handed it to them. Duke...same thing. Loads of talent and should have 10 titles.
Too young to have seen Wooden coach in person. But when you have Kareem and then Walton....you're going to win.

I love this image of the HC logo on the PP scoreboard, and I love the idea of bringing HC football closer into the heart of Worcester. What better location than Kelley Square? It's probably true as some have noted that Worcester residents are less invested in HC sports, but this brings HC to them instead of having them come to HC. I remember a Worcester resident once referring to HC as "the snobs on the Hill." I don't think everyone in Worcester feels this way, but I applaud this venture. It strikes me as a chance to engage more directly with the city. Agreed! Can you imagine complaining about this?

Just one parent's opinion.

Polar Park is the most expensive park until the next one is built. It and the land across Madison Street were basically toxic dumps as are most vacant lots in cities like Worcester.

Wouldn't be surprised if a rink goes up in the winter.
