Wait a minute... So all these schools saying they were SAT or ACT optional really weren't? They were using them as admissions criteria even though they said they weren't? If so that's a scumbag move. With an SAT-optional school, an applicant would ask that a school not consider his/her SAT scores during review of the application. And the school would not. The Common App used by HC and countless other schools, including IL, PL, NESCAC, etc., there is a standard block for entering your standardized test scores. But you said... Schools can and do access the SAT scores of all applying students and Students who did not submit standardized test scores and were rejected would have been admitted if they had submitted the scores. This doesn't sound very 'optional' to me.

I'm replying to Ignatz. Schools can and do access the SAT scores of all applying students. This was revealed, at least to me, by the study that Dartmouth did before recently re-instating standardized test scores. Students who did not submit standardized test scores and were rejected would have been admitted if they had submitted the scores. The school would have considered the score in the context of the student's economic / social circumstances, and admitted him/her. Wait a minute... So all these schools saying they were SAT or ACT optional really weren't? They were using them as admissions criteria even though they said they weren't? If so that's a scumbag move.

The AI is not going away. One-fifth of our students are athletes. You can't significantly lower the admissions standards for a fifth of our students without lowering the admissions profile of the student body as a whole. Think VR, who is doing everything he can to raise our academic profile, will buy into that? And how do we sell it to alumni? We have high admissions standards for students, except the 20 percent who are athletes? UR isn't joining the PL because they think it's an upgrade for football. It's not. They see the handwriting on the wall in the CAA. With the schools the CAA is adding, the admissions playing field for UR is now nowhere near level. In the PL we're pretty much all competing for the same players. No longer true in the CAA. And that's why we may have a shot with 'Nova as well. The above post insinuates that athletes are stupid as a whole. The archaic thought that you have to sell your soul to be successful is for those who worship at the feet of John Feinstein. Holy Cross played football for nearly 100 years without an AI. Thank goodness the founding fathers put in the AI to quell the academic scandals after academic scandals affecting HC and the other schools.... It's only there because PL school presidents in the early 80s were smittened with and got fleeced by the Ivy schools. Get rid of it. If a school can't figure out who they need to admit without handcuffs then they need to reconsider what the heck they're doing.

Still stunned.
Random thoughts after plowing thru honor roll posts....
->Richmond coming is a kick in the a** to the league members. Richmond is a consistently solid program which will always be near the top of the league standings. ->Richmond has a lot of selling to do to their fan base. Due to PL's inept marketing of itself many in the VA capital probably think the PL is still non-scholarship ->I think you'll see the AI silently vanish into the night. It's been an unnecessary anchor. ->Hopefully what I read is correct and non-medical redshirts are now standard operating procedure. ->If I'm the northern CAA schools I immediately form a new league. ->If I'm the PL I give Georgetown three years to show a systematic change which allows them to be competitive. If not see you later.

This is big….that is all. This instantly elevates the PL on a national level. Richmond is a well-respected name across the FCS world. Still stunned.

Wow. I'll eat my words. Thought this would never happen.
This shows by shedding itself of stupid, draconian self-restrictions name schools will kick the tires.
Hopefully this coincides with an announcement on revised redshirt rules.

Columbia just announced the cancellation of their general commencement ceremony - a shame as this class of ‘24 also did not have a h s graduation in ‘20 because of Covid Utter embarrassment. Columbia is led by cowards.

The Railers in their five-plus years have never made the playoffs. Sharks and IceCats were very rarely playoffs teams and when they did they barely moved passed the first round.
At some point you need a good product on the field/ice/court.

Professional agitators? Lisa Fithian was involved in the Columbia protests. Look her up. Is she the sister of the President of Clark University?

Do your homework rf1. State aid in MA is legally only allowed to adjust up to 4%-ish to count for inflation. Inflation was over 8%. Excuse me if my numbers aren't spot on but they're close. There's your shortfall. And it's statewide. Nice try.

First 21 offers by State: CALIFORNIA -- 1 MARYLAND -- 8 VIRGINIA -- 2 CONNECTICUT -- 3 ILLINOIS -- 1 (Committed to Miami (OH)) DELAWARE -- 1 MASSACHUSETTS -- 3 PENNSYLVANIA -- 1 NEW JERSEY -- 1 No known commitments except as noted. Interesting that there are no offers in Florida or Texas as yet, but I'm sure that many offers there will follow. There's no fixed timetable regarding offers to recruits in particular states that I've ever been able to see in the past. Catholic school enrollment has dropped from 2,231,000 in 2007-08 to 1,693.000 in 2023-24 (almost 25 percent) Much of the decrease is disproportionately centered in the New England and Mideast regions (Catholic education association geographic terminology; U.S. is divided into six regions.). Enrollment is more stable or marginally increasing in other regions. A major emphasis in admissions for HC's class of 2028 was geographic outreach to schools in areas that HC had largely ignored in the past. This emphasis will continue. What does this have to do with football recruiting? I don't care if every recruit comes from the same high school as long as they can play.

Politicians are outraged at Caitlin Clark's low $76K starting salary in the WNBA. I don't feel any outrage as it's a collectively bargained union contract. Politicians are stupid and have no idea how actual business works.

I don't know the point of threads like this?
Who cares what Georgetown, UConn, etc spend.
Does it justify HC being cheap and frugal in athletics?

Slightly off topic- John Sterling retired yesterday. Boston fans who were annoyed by his Yankee shtick will always have this* to remember him by. *have never heard Gorman's call of the event, not sure if it exists. Either way, the reactions of the Hawks' bench are priceless. Pretty sure this was televised on TBS. Probably wasn't a local telecast. Bird's best shot on this game was the three pointer that didn't count.

This is great. Two teams that were in the 2024 NCAA tournament and UMass Lowell is a solid program.
Grab a couple of other western games on the way back.
Should be zero complaints on this one.

Can we be honest about Fitton Field...take away the nostalgia for a minute. And before I catch holy heck...yes I enjoy going to games there. Yes, it has great sighlines.
That being said:
Accessibility is poor at best for those that need assistance. How long did it take them to put in something as simple as railings for the aisles??? Bathrooms are right out of the 1960s/70s. The locker rooms...enough said. Press box is an absolute joke. Hospitality suite fits about five people. No lights. Parking is only good on perfect weather days. The all metal look is high school at best.
It is in serious need of an upgrade. The campus' front door needs help.

This is going to be a great final. BC has had a great year. Denver is arguably the most dominant program of the last 10-15 years.
Denver came East and beat BC early in the season.

The PL isnt changing. If there's any league that will be insulated from this domino affect its us and the Ancient 8. The Patriot League has gone through many changes. Would anyone want to go back to the Patriot League as originally constructed? ? No scholarships to scholarships being the major one. Many of their self-imposed restrictions have proven to be foolish. Leagues have to change.

Polar Park is cleared and ready for baseball. I have six inches of snow in my yard Northwest of Worcester.
Doesn't matter what the weather is in Pawtucket.

A glowing tribute to Larry should be made at the EBW Classic at Fitton Field this fall. Are they calling one of the football games the EBW Classic? Pretty clear that Larry sensed the end coming and made it easier for his family by cashing in on the ballclub; especially if there were no Lucchino family members who wanted to run it. Pretty sure Larry's ownership share increased after the sale this past winter. Many of the part owners from the Pawtucket days cashed out. Went from something like 11 owners to four. Larry was slowing down up until his passing. He was still going to public events here and there but you could tell his health was getting the best of him.

Foley: Like you, the NCAA statement is BS. If that is true, change the GD specs. The playoffs are for the student/athletes and their supporting fans. Talk to some of the 2006 players about the atmosphere and how that helped them. No way we beat Minnesota in a 2,500 capacity facility with no NoDak fans. I was there sitting next to the Minnesota AD. Never experienced anything like that at the college level. To the NCAA: You make tons of money off collegiate athletics. You can afford to cut back a bit on on revenue!! Here is an article from 2021, the NCAA Hockey tournament only draws 191k TV viewers. It isn't a big enough draw for the NCAA to care. medium.com/run-it-back-with-zach/how-much-could-each-sports-ncaa-tournament-command-on-the-open-market-1f5409a4e9e4It should be noted that North Dakota hosted last year and will host next year in Fargo in a 6k seat arena. TV viewership isn't even a part of this debate. What does that have to do with anything? Even more take into consideration the fan experience.
