I believe they used Putterham Meadows as a parking lot for the US Open. The CC is a great course, but nothing related to it was designed with the spectator in mind. Now know as the Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course. Played there a bunch in the 80's. Got a lot of damage during the 88 Open, but got a drainage system in return as well as the repairs to the torn up areas, USGA paid for the damages at Lynch this past US Open at Brookline....

Did you mean when they announced they would be leaving? After all, if they "left" why would anyone think they carried their AE Championship eligibility with them? You know what I meant, when they announced they were leaving and still in the conference.

I wonder if Richmond will be eligible for the automatic bid from the CAA next season, their last in the CAA? Richmond can win the title and auto bid. Delaware is not eligible. I think it’s related to their moving FBS. Stony Brook and BU were banned from America East championships when they left

That's when you know you've made it. Tom Brady reached over the stone wall from his yard bordering The Country Club and handed Foley a bottle of water and a handful of almonds. USGA loves the Foles

Golfers are given courtesy cars at every tournament and that is what he was driving. It had a PGA logo on it to identify him as a player/official that is supposed to have access to the facility. When I covered the USA Amateur at Brookline about ten plus years ago, I had a special parking pass to get on the course. At this type of event, the same type of thing would be going on and pedestrians would be shuttled around. That's when you know you've made it.

There are significant restrictions for traffic near Valhalla during the tournament with attendees parking very far away and taking shuttles. Maybe that’s the case in all golf tournament as I’m guessing the courses don’t have parking spaces to accommodate tens of thousands of cars. You’d think the tournament organizers would find a way for the golfers to get there easily. Louisville has done a good job in the past for the Ryder Cup and a couple of PGA’s. Maybe the congestion was caused by the crush of people trying to get to the course for the opportunity to see Tiger Woods tie the laces on his golf shoes.😊 Update: I’m hearing the congestion was caused by a traffic accident with a fatality Golfers are given courtesy cars at every tournament and that is what he was driving. It had a PGA logo on it to identify him as a player/official that is supposed to have access to the facility. Bryant is a full America East sports member with only its football program competing in the CAA as an affiliate member. Stony Brook is a full CAA member and cannot play just football in another conference. That’s what I said about Stony Brook and Monmouth. I thought I read somewhere that Bryant would be moving over all sports after football but maybe that was conjecture or opinion. They are definitely an option to break away with the other 4 affiliates if that comes to pass. Then you only need Duquesne and Sacred Heart and you’re good. Bryant just joined America East as they are finishing their second school year in the conference

Those calls are made electronically though at the level I am shooting at. I asked you how many judgment calls are you making in a meet? I only seen a few in 10+ years and that was when a runner fell down or bumped someone. It is a very rare occurrence in my experience. A starter/referee makes calls in every meet. Most often in dual or triangular meets. It is not rare. One issue gthat you mention, knocking down another runner or interfering in a way that causes him/her to break stride, is ,less common, but that is only one type of call. Recalling a race because of an unfair start is not frequent, but it also happens. Sadly, unsportsmanlike conduct is all too frequent and does involve coaches and even parents. In meets with electronic timing and photos of the finish, there are fewer conflicts, but they happen even there. One parent said that his daughter was picked for third in a close fkinish because of her race. All of the meet evidence showed she was, in fact, third but when he said he would sue they gave her a duplicate gold medal and called the race a tie. She did not earn it and IMHO it should not have happened as it did. See that is what I was asking about. As you know, I am working high level meets with top level equipment.

Attendance at the Hart Center dropped when we joined the Patriot League. Now is the time to look into possibly joining the A-10 a real good league and the fans will come back. Let's face it, the Patriot League does nothing for the basketball program, it hurts in recruiting and attendance, even the students stay back in the dorms. Let's face it, the students are not going to come to the gym for the A-10 either.

The starter/referee makes calls in almost every meet starting with false starts (no pun intended). If you attended all those meets and you never saw a call, you were not paying close attention. Those calls are made electronically though at the level I am shooting at. I asked you how many judgment calls are you making in a meet? What do you mean by "a call to change a race?" As a track official, you are not making as making calls as say a hockey, basketball, or a baseball official do. During running events, there is very rare occurrences that someone breaks the rules making the official rule on it. I have done probably 40-50 NCAA Track events and I have sene an official actually have to make a call once on the track. The field events you are either measuring or seeing if an arthlete crossed a line for a foul.

Heard last evening from coach Magarity that Cara is headed to Drexel for her grad year - joining AU’s Molly Lavin there. CAA is a marginally better league than the PL - good luck to Cara Also, no landing spot so far for Janelle CAA finished 20th in Net this past season with Stony Brook having the best NET at 72. Patriot League finished 28th and Holy Cross had the best NET at 186. The CAA had six teams ahead of Holy Cross last year.

As a track official, I find that most high school athletes cooperate and work with the officials, as do their coaches (even when gthey disagree). However, there are a few whose behavior makes it difficult for others to enjoy high school sports. I have seen both sides of this behavior in my 56 years as an official. In some sports it is parents who cause the most probems in youth sports. Interesting article but does it overstate the situation? How many times as a track official are you making a call to change a race? Once every month?

Every game has a winner and a loser - someone has to lose the games to the stronger teams - this year it's Miami among the blue-bloods of the ACC Going back to BC, I see Mudd did pitch 3 strong innings on Sunday vs. Maryland so maybe he's back to 100 pct. Eagles final home game is today vs. Georgetown. You immediately jumped on the Northern schools being in the backend of the conference this season but when a power school is only one game ahead of ND, you dismiss it. Last year, Florida State finished in last place with a 9-21 record. Louisville finished ahead of them at 10-20. There are good teams in the ACC every year and being a northern program isn't the reason BC and ND are struggling this season.

Hsu didn't attend college in 2020-2021 so not eligible for the 5th year. Well, not exactly. They didn't award an extra year for the Covid season, just didn't count 20-21 as one of the 4 seasons played. She played in 19-20, then in 21-22, 22-23 and 23-24. No, she didn't attend college in 2020-2021. Read The Athletic article on this topic and how her father (a doctor) was one of the first deaths due to COVID in the state of Florida.

Bad timing as these jobs are usually filled in the late fall/winter after the season. Every Holy Cross men's soccer player can now enter the portal so this hamper the team even more in the fall.

BC and Pitt have the worst ACC records at 8-19 The next worst is ND at 9-18 - it’s not a coincidence that the 3 northern tier schools have the worst records - spring sports (even those funded with schollies) often have a tough time Notre Dame finished fifth in the nation in 2022 with a CWS appearance. The coach left to go to Florida State. Miami is 10-17 I guess that great weather is killing their record too.

My first question is -- What happens to the New England CAA schools? I just can't imagine Maine, UNH, and URI (and Bryant, for that matter...although this is probably a better situation for them than the Big South was) are happy with these developments. I would think the CAA football officially or implicitly breaks into North and South Divisions. I’m also assuming Nova follows Richmond to the PL in 2025. North - Maine, Albany, URI, UNH, Bryant, Stony Brook, Monmouth South - Towson, W&M, Hampton, Campbell, NC A&T, Elon Play each team from your division every year and rotate 2 from opposite division. Be cool if they could swing a Championship game but FCS calendar makes Conf Championship games virtually impossible. The Northern schools could just straight up make their own conference and get an auto bid in two years (the waiting period on a new conference)

If we are going to offer sports at the D1 level we should fully fund them. If that isn't possible don't offer the sport. It is a question about priorities and investment If you want sports to be fully funded...the big one needs to be cut.

Just clicked over to the BC baseball stats for this year. Nick Wang one of their top three hitters and Tyler Mudd with a very impressive 3.20 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Imagine if we had both of these guys on the roster? Too bad. That would be last place Boston College.

Literally no one in the Northeast cares about college baseball! I know many who care about it. If you don’t associate with sports fans, that doesn’t mean that no one does. Also, by now you should’ve learned the meaning of the word “literally”. Seems like all 143 fans showed up to the last home game of the season which was also ALS awareness game.

Bloomed. Wait til next year. Crusaders exceeded expectations. But we need to put scholarships into baseball no matter the cost Create an NIL for baseball to take care of the existing and future talent We are a school that needs to go above and beyond to support Football. Basketball, Baseball, and Hockey for men Lax, Hoops, Soccer, T&F, Softball for women Finance all other sports to be compliant with the NCAA Great effort this season by the baseball team, but in the years ahead the series with the academies shouldn't be close like it is today Literally no one in the Northeast cares about college baseball!

Little bit different playing week in and week out in Hockey East compared to getting up for five games against Hockey East squads which the HE squads might play a backup goalie or not take their opponent as serious as they should. It is tough to get your team up for a road game in a glorified high school rink. That's ridiculous. Athletes at all levels salivate when they think they have a chance to get on the board against lesser competition. Of course any non-league game can't have the same stakes as a game that effects the league standings, league tournament seeding, etc. But don't you think the University of Buffalo football team is going to be pumped and jacked when they open against Lafayette after losing to PL teams two years in a row, as opposed to yawning and mailing it in against an opponent from a weaker league? They are not going to take Lafayette seriously like they would Missouri the next week when they can get a win against a Power 4 school.
