When will the DCU Center get into the exempt tournament business? Worcester's population is up to 205,918 as of 2001. Should be a good bet if decent competition and quality sponsorship can be secured. The late October, 2021 ice breaker college hockey tournament bombed with only 1653 and 2052 attending on Friday and Saturday night but NCAA tournament preliminary rounds in both BB and hockey have done well there. I don't think the Ice Breaker had a high profile mainstream primary sponsor or I would have remembered it if it was the Verizon or Bank of America Ice Breaker tournament. I went to a UMass/South Carolina game at the Centrum (now the DCU Center) during the Bruiser Flint era when there was still a half life of enthusiasm from the great Calipari/Camby teams. It turned out everybody in our section had free tickets from entering a drawing at their local Cumberland Farms convenience store, one of the game's sponsors. That was great marketing by UMass or the DCU marketing staff or both. The sponsors surely got a volume discount on the tickets, but the attendees are still part of the paid attendance. Worcester hasn't hosted NCAA Regional Hoops since 2005 and will NOT host through the 2025-2026 tourney. The tournament has moved onto bigger and better facilities.

You think that the marginalization of gay and trans Americans only happened fifty years ago, before you were born. Read the #$@&^*!ing newspaper. You think that there are only forty gay or trans people in America? Open your #$@&^*!ing eyes. I think there are certain elements that are not trying to merely now be a part of culture and society, but would rather inundate and overwhelm it with their viewpoint and traditions due to completely understandable feelings of oppression, marginalization, anger, frustration, hostility, and revenge. There are far more people that think like me that a man wearing a skirt is weird, a woman identifying as a fox (vulpes vulpes) is ridiculous, and are sexually attracted to the opposite gender-- of which there are two. That doesn't make me or people that think like me "right," but it seems like there is a compulsion to identify every varied group and hand it the stage, microphone, or month of the year, and it seems like pandering by corporations to show how wonderful and open minded they are.
To a more extreme end, it seems like the goal is not merely to become a part of the wider social fabric, but the old fabric has to be replaced. It's racist that Ariel-- a cartoon of a fish person-- was white, so we must rush to remake it that they are black. It is not inclusive enough that the Fairy Godmother-- (godmothers are real, but I am rather certain fairies are not)-- was a white old lady, she now must be a black amorphous genderperson. I don't care much about Disney moves-- my kids love them in any era or remake-- but the objective isn't to create narratives and role models and stories that folks from all walks of life can see representation in. The objective has become to displace the traditions and ways of thinking-- both good and bad-- for the sake of a strange few.
Yea just like people in the 50's and 60's were complaining that women were getting too much power from voting in elections for the last 30 years and starting to get more involved in the workforce. Time changes perceptions on what is right and wrong.

1) This would NEVER have been approved it was flamboyant men/things/pick-your-pronouns walking around with A) skull caps, fake noses, white scarves, B) sexified hijabs or other headscarves, or C) traditional African tribal garb. There is a false equivalency between bad things the Church has done and them not being able to claim injustice of their own. 2) This is one of the fundamental flaws, and fears of early observers of democracies and their ability to function and succeed: that people wouldn't have a common, shared interest in a productive outcome that benefits many (a baseball game), but instead would just live in their isolated and ignorant hole, hating those who have a voice and have success until THEY become "king for a day." I can understand the sentiment that many in "majority" groups might feel threatened. It's about equality in many instances, but it seems like revenge in many others. Somebody marginalized a gay person or transvestite 50 years ago before I was alive? Great... NOW you're gonna see all forty of the people in the county who feel that way shut down the main roads and parade along. How do you feel about THAT?! Actually, you can't answer, because if you don't agree-- even though you weren't out with pitch forks and torches going on the offensive-- you are a bigot. There is no counter viewpoint acceptable. The 2% of the weirdos are driving the most powerful organizations, institutions, and businesses in the country. Not dialogue, not votes, not dollars. It's out of control. Why do you care what other people do with their lives and time? Does it bother you? Make you uncomfortable? Just turn your head and do what you want with your life!

African Americans had difficulties in America in the 1950s. See Jackie Robinson. I am surprised Brown made any All American teams. True also...

Did not lax change some rule because of Brown’s dominance ? Many respected lax coaches that watched Brown have said in the recent past that Brown was the best. Video is not the only reliable source. There is very little or no video of Jim Thorpe. Was he a great athlete ? Players from the Negro Leagues, such as Josh Gibson ? The rule change in lacrosse was "requiring players to keep the stick in motion with the ball in their possession." Source: www.jacksonville.com/story/sports/college/jacksonville-dolphins/2023/05/19/nfl-star-jim-brown-every-bit-the-lacrosse-icon-was-he-was-in-football/70238294007/All I am saying is he was a second team All-American as a junior and a first teamer as a senior. There have been multiple players in the last 25 years or so that have been four time first team All-Americans. Does it make them better? I don't know but Brown is considered in the conversation.

Debatable on Brown....noone today can really say one way or the other with him since it was too long ago. I believe you may be exaggerating a bit with “no one.” After all, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Bob Cousy(college) et.al. were all before Brown. Very few people can remember Brown as a lacrosse player...There is a ton more video of Ruth, Cobb, Cousy etc when compared to Brown playing lax. Is Casey Powell a better lacrosse player than Brown? Mikey Powell? Gary Gait? Kyle Harrison? Miles and Lyle Thompson? etc...

Pat Spencer is considered to be one of the top five players in the history of college lacrosse. With Jim Brown as #1, I presume Debatable on Brown....noone today can really say one way or the other with him since it was too long ago.

The last season the fellow you brought up could have played at Assumption was 2013, Coach Chesney's first season there. So he likely was recruited by a previous coach. But your post provides insight into one of many possible reasons why Coach signed an extension to stay at Holy Cross. He has a great school to sell to great kids and he follows through by encouraging them to have it all while they are here. Of course over time there will be occasional incidents at even the best schools with the best coaches, especially with a roster as large as FB. I hope both the young men discussed in this thread have an opportunity to turn things around and have or will do so. Exactly...every program eventually will run into trouble.

Rather surprising he'd get even a temp spot w/Brewster. Stats don't look like Cape League caliber. I would have guessed if 1 player was going to be on a Cape squad this summer, it was Sean Scanlon.
Yeah, I’m going to need someone to explain this to me. Is his family hosting a player on the Cape and he’s on the team until players from the NCAA Tournament / CWS make their way to the Cape? Probably serving as the last man on the bench type role for a week or two until the big boys come in and he goes back down to the NECBL or whatever summer league he is supposed to be in.

Can we shift this recent diversion back to the topic ? Somewhat related to the topic, the Red Storm has one away game in its non-con schedule. And it is only because it is part of one of those challenges.

A huge credit to every Holy Cross FB coach, captain, senior, etc. because this could happen to any team, but is less likely when there is such buy in to a common positive mission like in the HC FB program under Coach Chesney. With the horrific accident to Buddy Teevins, the Dartmouth FB program might be missing some of the intangibles of leadership that flow down from a veteran skilled head coach and benefit the players in so many ways. We are so lucky to have head coaches like Chesney and Paulsen in place. It looks like Chesney had this kid on his roster at Assumption before he got kicked out www.telegram.com/story/news/local/north/2015/04/08/former-assumption-student-gets-jail/34786060007/

Would have been a nice thing for New England to get a regional. Probably has not been one since baseball went away from its prior geographic setup. UConn hosted a regional in 2010 (Norwich, CT), despite being the #2 seed. FSU was #1. Indiana State is hosting this year in a non-traditional baseball market but they also have a MUCH stronger RPI. The reason BC isn't hosting is due to their terrible OOC schedule.

My nephew and grand nephew were at the game and the consensus of those who were there was that the Duke player’s foot was on the line. I asked my nephew if there was official replay of the play and he said “No”. I thought he meant no replay at all but apparently in lax there is replay of some issues and not others. The play seemed quite similar to an “in the crease” situation in hockey for which there is replay. The rule should be changed asap after Monday’s final. Looks like his foot is on the line but Duke would keep possession as that should be a penalty for pushing on Penn State also.

Anyone in the Cape league? That is one of the best leagues. It lists only one but doesn't say if they are on a temp or a permanent spot in the cape. A single player in the Northwoods or Coastal Plains League which are the two best other leagues.

ND with a decisive victory. The ND goalie, Liam Entenmann, is one of the Chaminade products on the Irish. I assume his family gave us those great bakery goods. I like the raspberry danish twist. Yes. And BTW dad and uncle played at Chaminade too. Here come the Irish. Not quite the football splash but pretty cool college lax entrance: /mediaViewer?currentTweet=1663228249420210180¤tTweetUser=NDlacrosse They have been doing it for at least 15 plus seasons....

Some schools of interest... Army heads to Virginia. Fifth straight appearance by Army, who always seems competitive. In 2018, they beat NC State in their first game, but since then have lost eight straight tournament games. Last year they had two tough losses to Southern Miss and Kennesaw State. Penn to Auburn. Maine to Miami. CCSU to South Carolina. UConn gets an at-large and heads to Gainesville (two seed in the regional). They get Texas Tech. NCAA Baseball Tournament one of the more underrated events on the sports calendar each year, IMO. Boston College passed over for a NCAA Regional host spot and heads to Alabama.

If you are not drawing interest from other schools, you aren't doing well at your current school or you are getting passed over. Look at the HC MBB coach Starts his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma master Wiliams in 1988. Then goes to Michigan as an assistant, then to Cleveland State as another assistant. Gets his first head coach gig at St Lawrence in 1994 and then goes from SL to D-2 Lemoyne and back down to D-3 as the Head Coach at Williams, goes to Bucknell, moved up to George Mason, loses job at George Mason and becomes an assistant in the same conference at Fordham. Now 58 years old, needs a job to finish his career and goes to HC. The longest he has stayed at a job is nine seasons and that was as the head coach at Williams. If he stayed nine years at HC, he would be 68 years old. Just using him as an example. Both he and his wife were pumped and jacked at the introductory press conference. How in the world can you interpret that as washed up because he wasn't being introduced at Duke or UCLA? Because you aren't shooting the cover of Sports Illustrated by middle age are you washed up? Sports Illustrated laid off all their staff photographers. ;-)

...but not his first. Would you expect him to change his views now? I would say in the coaching field and a lot of others, 'twould be good to not be stale and at times drawing interest from other places. Acting or not acting upon that interest is another matter. If you are not drawing interest from other schools, you aren't doing well at your current school or you are getting passed over.
