Wasn't that Zach Spiker's philosophy at Army when he would not even put his players in the lane for FTs? It was Crews. It may have helped to end his time at the Point and he was followed by Spiker.

The team looks tired...maybe it's all the minutes played this season.. Maybe. We have the shortest bench in the conference, and Carmody's apparent lack of trust in in JF, MZ, CLS, and JS to play meaningful minutes may be coming home to roost

Floyd looked good in there and it was good to see him get more time.

the 'pards are partying. thanks to HC, their bball teams' combined 31 game losing streak (22 for women and 9 for men) comes to a close, and neither game was close. I say keep recruiting for a 6th in next years frosh class. we need "players' !

Thanks for the correction. Wouldn't want to ruin the reputation of the wrong coach. Hey, at least I got the school right!

Just. got home.....read the comments here.....looked at the stats. Ugh.
two comments:
1) I hope we can end this season with some dignity because right now I feel like it's possible we could lose all the rest of the games.
2) I just hope those five freshmen next year can breathe life back into this program.

Senior class coming up short. Well, the junior class is nonexistent and the freshman class is nonessential leaving only the sophomore class with some potential.

The thing is about our team, as lousy as we have played the last few games, we could hit all those 3s we've been missing, make great passes for easy buckets, hit our free throws and create a bunch of turnovers and beat Lehigh at the Hart.
I do wonder about Malachi if after 4 long years he is burnt out. He gives 110% and playing almost 40 minutes a game. As strong as he is, he has to be worn down. He's a warrior but even the "300" finally lost. Only so much you can ask of one guy.

This program is in trouble.
It seems like all of the Carmody backers' eggs are in the basket of next year's frosh, but bringing in 5 freshmen to a team with (a) no seniors and (b) the lackluster culture we are seeing right now is not a recipe for success.

Plain and simple, been this way for a long, long time: We don't have players that can consistently put the ball in the basket !

The lackluster culture is truly out there, I agree. And it can become a disease that insidiously spreads and kills the host. As 1970 said we need five freshmen to come in and immediately turn this around. What I fear is all the hype we've been pouring on top of some of these frosh to be may not arrive on the Hill. Based on Coach c'S recruiting so far, one has to be skeptical.

The great Ralph Willard, upon being asked at one point about frosh playing time, said something along the lines of, 'if you see the freshmen getting a lot of time on the court this year, it means we're in trouble'. At our level, winning very much correlates to having an experienced AND talented group of upperclassmen leading the way. Lots of minutes for underclassmen usually means rebuilding rather than contention. Next year is looking like a big rebuilding year. Hoping that tonight was rock bottom for 2016-2017. With Malachi, Husek, Ant and RChamp out there, there is still reason to believe that we can be a factor heading into the PL tournament. If we can win 3 out of 4 at home and take care of business @ AU, we will finish at 10-8 and in the top half of the league.

CBC is RIGID RIGID RIGID STUBBORN STUBBORN STUBBORN. Getting the W is N-O-T CBC's top priority. His philosophy is his top priority. MH has an embarrassing awful night and CBC persists in putting him out on the floor. Too many minutes for JF to play in MH's stead? Put Jack Stevens in! How bad could he be? Is CBC the one who's mailing it in??? There was a timeout at 9:00. Our next possession was a zero zip nada. Didn't come anywhere near scoring.

I agree that next year is a "rebuilding year," but what exactly are we rebuilding? What is the culture in the program that Carmody is trying to create? It doesn't take talent to establish a culture or mindset within a program, but I am afraid that all this program is going to be concerned with going forward is how many shots we can make.

I will assume that you made a typo when you say "MH has an embarrassing awful night" and really meant "MA." MH had 4 points and 5 rebounds in 15 minutes. MA had 6 points and 4 rebounds in 27 minutes (and shot 2 for 11 with 0 for 6 from 3).

Former coach Milan Brown was criticized for frequently saying "we don't shoot it well." So far, that hasn't changed with Bill Carmody. He may or may not have used those exact words but certainly has implied it multiple times. If a team doesn't shoot well, that falls on the coaches over the long haul to recruit players who can shoot.MB was here long enough to have been able to recruit some shooters. He didn't. Now it is up to Carmody to do so and, on paper, it looks like that what he is trying to do. From what I have read, Butler averages more than 30 points a game and an apparent great outside shooter which we will need to loosen up the defenses for inside baskets. Niegro averages 17+ a game and Faw 18+ a game. I would not expect any of them to score that many points in college, at least not as freshmen. Maybe over the course of their careers at HC.
As I posted before, CWC seems to believe rebounds are not important if your own shots go in. Let's see what happens when his recruits can hopefully shoot lights out.

We attempted 33 3-pointers, and only drew 4 free throw attempts.
What an absolute joke.

Floyd looked good in there and it was good to see him get more time. Other subs mentioned didn't. CLS gave up 2 layups in the zone in about a minute...then threw up a bad shot in the lane (although perhaps the clock was winding down and he had no choice). MZ blew a wide open layup which, unfortunately for him, was in the middle of one of HC's patented scoring droughts. But back to your point. I would play Floyd a lot and use Ziggy or CLS too. Whichever of the two doesn't kill you on a given night. 7 people is too few to play.

I might give a guy a pass that concedes rebounds on missed foul shots...they are few and far between and there are good reasons (cheap fouls, defense set) to do that. However, what HC is doing, making every possession 1 and done, doesn't seem to make much sense at all. 9 offensive rebounds to 5 tonight. Not very much for LC to crow about, either. By the way, AT not only led HC in rebounding (6), but he matched the combined total of 6 teammates.

People forget that this team just isn't very talented. Objectively look at the roster, folks. We have no junior class and one senior that has been consistently solid all season. That is difficult to overcome.
