I think we have a chance to be a decent team next season, FWIW. Someone once told me: 1) you don't spit into the wind 2) you don't step on Superman's cape and 3) you don't win with freshmen That said, I think next year's team will be more enjoyable to watch than this year's. At least I HOPE so. Trust me: you don't. Even with talented ones. And especially if there aren't a lot of good upperclassmen who can ease some of the learning curve for them.

How about more enjoyable more often? There have been some very good games this year that were fun to watch...just not enough.
I liked the way RC spoke on the postgame last night. Clearly the team knows it is not performing well. Even he spoke about the missed shots on fast breaks as something that MUST Be corrected. If you have not seen the video, check it out on GOHOLYCROSS.COM

If you have not seen the video, check it out on GOHOLYCROSS.COM It's fun in the sense that you see young guys learning, and they show flashes of what they're capable of. But the inconsistency is so frustrating. They look so capable one moment and so helpless the next.

January 16, 2008: Army 53, Holy Cross 39. HC finished in last place in the PL this season. We will get better with better players. I remember being at that game. IIRC, it ended an extensive home win streak (remember when the Hart Center actually provided a shred of home court advantage??!!). We were undefeated at Hart the previous year, losing only @ the DCU to George Mason. 07-08 season was very strange. While we finished last in the PL, we were probably no worse than third in terms of RPI. That year, we started out 8-1 OOC (the one being a nail-biter against Dayton) before losing a tough OT game @ Siena, a blowout loss to Maryland and an ugly loss on the road against Sacred Heart. In PL play we were swept by Navy and Colgate but managed to split with every other team in the league. Our 1/8 matchup with American in the PLT was probably the toughest draw any top-seeded team has had in the quarterfinal round -- at least until Bucknell this past year.

Didn't that team get hit hard by injuries...right around the time of the Maryland game IIRC. VanderBomb's back (never was the same again; or at least, was only ok in brief stretches) and something with Doherty. God, HC stunk in that Army game. Got so frustrated by their offensive ineptness they stopped playing the D that kept them in so many ballgames. Even with that, they only gave up 53 points.

That was, by far, the most nerve wracking game I've ever watched in person--much moreso than our '08 or '09 PL title games. Went down to the wire and one of your guys who was an unbelievable free throw shooter missed two in the last minute. Then Brian Gilmore came up with an amazing three-point play for AU in the final seconds for the win.

It was Pat Doherty who missed the free throws. A really tough loss.
