We need that thinking and culture around Mt. St. James especially in regard to our athletic pursuits.

If I were a PL caliber high school player, my key college decision factors would be as follows (in no particular order): (1) academics; (2) location; (3) coaching staff; (4) facilities; (5) rapport with current players and student support for program. Academics: HC stands up well against rest of PL, although Catholic identity and academic concentration options (e.g., business) may be issues for some. Location: Worcester ain't great, but better than locations of many other PL schools, given proximity to Boston. Coaching: Hope Carmody is the right guy, but not sure at this point. We shall see. Facilities: The Hart looks just terrible on TV. Assume it's better in person, but other PL venues (e.g., Bucknell, Lehigh) seem better...again, on TV. Rapport/Support: An important, but ultimately uncontrollable factor. It will be what it will be, but there are many empty seats at most games. On balance, facilities and support for the program look like the biggest negatives.

I think you guys over estimate the lure of academics to these kids. It's something they'll appreciate 10-20 yrs down the road. They want to play at the highest level possible for a coach they like. Period. Facilities are a factor but not above level of play.

I have been to all PL venues except Navy and Bucknell. I think those two might both be better than the refurbished Hart Center. In my opinion, none of the others is better though several are in the same neighborhood. When complete, our non-game arena facilities should be better than all but Bucknell.

Army is a nice place unless they have let it go...that puts HC 4th*. Lehigh has potential because it's big...but needs a makeover. That picket fence for example has gotta go. Looks terrible on tv.
Different level, of course, but I was in Worcester State's new place last night. They did a great job with it. Seats probably 1,500 and they made it a real basketball arena instead of just a big fieldhouse type place. Sideline stands are 2/3 chairs and 1/3 like the new HC. End zones like the new HC.
*but HC coulda been better and not for that much more $.

Army's Christl has bad sight lines. almost all seats are on the sides with few behind the hoops. Mostly bleacher seats also. Hart is better

At least several thousand. When they have some people in them I would rank it 3rd in PL. www.flickr.com/photos/dannywild/4375088000
