with the ivy and patriot champs already determined (and most other conference tourneys this weekend) would not be surprised to see a game this week between Yale and HC, That is, if it ever stops raining

Yale is legit. 30-16 overall record (16-4 ivy) and a 2 game sweep of penn in playoff. we needed a late 3 run homer from o'neill to manage one win over them in our 4 game series played at columbia back on march.

I'm kind of surprised that there are 299 schools playing D-I ball. Just looking at the PL, 40 percent of the schools don't play baseball. I remember being saddened when PC dropped baseball a few years back. I just looked and 3 out of the 10 Big East schools don't play baseball. Based on this exceedingly small sample, 299 out of about 350 seems kind of high Tom - not sure why you're "surprised" most D1 schools have a baseball program. Baseball is obviously a mainstream sport, the soundtrack of summer, and cross-generational like no other sport ever has been. As I have known Tom for 35 years, I'd never try to put words in his mouth, but since we're typing, I'll attempt to put words on the message board to help him out ... ... if such Division I schools as Wisconsin, Colorado, Syracuse & others don't sponsor the sport, and PC dropped it a number of years ago ostensibly for cost and Title IX reasons, I'm surprised there are only about 45 other Division I schools that don't don't sponsor the sport.

Schedule says in Worcester!! How did that happen?
Ahh, these are not NCAA games. Guess both teams want to play ball before the tournament.

Syracuse has men's and women's lax, PC has men's, while Colorado just added women's and lost to UMass in the tourney this season. Wisconsin has no lax and Iowa State also. Temple cut baseball a few years ago and North Dakota and Buffalo have cut their programs after this season. Duquesne and Akron have cut the sport recently too.

Yale is good. While we did win the last game in the 4-game Yale series by just one run we also lost the first game by just one run. I thought our starting pitching did very well at chilly Columbia (Yale's field was snowed out) in three of the four games. Some fielding errors really hurt HC in the series as well. I'd say both teams are hitting their strides right about now (not uncommon here in the Northeast). Should be a nice doubleheader in Worcester - we'll get a hint (perhaps) of the relief pitchers and their roles in the tournament.

I attended all four games at Columbia/Yale. Yale dominated us and should have won all four. But yes we are playing better now. We are a live 'dog to win a game in the NCAA regional. Go Cross Go!

When I think of Yale baseball I recall attending a 1972 game at HC where a Yale player put two homers on the ramp to 290--prodigious blasts. Let's hope that is not repeated

surprised at the high rpi yale has. now at 49 vs. HC at 205. haven't looked at it but the ivy league rpi must be high and yale's 16 league wins is bolstering their ranking www.ncaa.com/rankings/baseball/d1/rpi

Allow me to teach you about sales and marketing in college baseball. In the south and west it is HUGE. About five years ago I attended a regional at UNC. SOLD OUT! I was lucky to find a patron with 2 extra tickets.

I took over from Catfish Hunter's son as GM and Director of Baseball Ops of the worst-to-first summer collegiate Coastal Plain League champion Edenton, NC Steamers in '04. I know a LOT more about college baseball marketing in the south than you.

I was lucky to find a patron with 2 extra tickets. It isn't big at all in the West...It is basically SEC and a few ACC schools that care about the sport. The rest don't www.sportswriters.net/ncbwa/news/2015/attendance150525.pdf

First thing to do is wait and find out where we're playing. Then call that school the next morning and ask them how to buy tickets. I'm sure you wouldn't be happy to buy tickets for Pali Alto only to have HC wind up playing in Chapel Hill.

I'm sure the school will have some allotment of tickets reserved

Thanks Tom we are getting warmer. Host school will be taking care of its own. No way I would travel to Pali (sic) Alto without a ticket in hand.
