The PL teams have played often in the southeast. Wonder if we will be in Chapel Hill as one college baseball site imagined? I am going by car 100% if it's in the southeast. I can help with transportation to the game I'm pretty sure.

Does the NCAA pay to fly teams to the tournament as it does with the basketball tournament?

Does the NCAA pay to fly teams to the tournament as it does with the basketball tournament? The NCAA provides transportation to all championships including the d-3 rowing finals to the basketball final four.

It could be any of the 16 sites, there is no reason for where they place the 61st or 62nd squad that has no "bus" trips (500 miles iirc) in their area.

I haven't even seen a list of the 16 campus sites for the first round yet. Are the 16 seeded teams (not yet announced) the campus site hosts?

with the ivy and patriot champs already determined (and most other conference tourneys this weekend) would not be surprised to see a game this week between Yale and HC, as a long payoff before the 1st tourney game is not ideal.

I'm kind of surprised that there are 299 schools playing D-I ball. Just looking at the PL, 40 percent of the schools don't play baseball. I remember being saddened when PC dropped baseball a few years back. I just looked and 3 out of the 10 Big East schools don't play baseball. Based on this exceedingly small sample, 299 out of about 350 seems kind of high

Are there any BCS football schools without a baseball team? I'd bet there are few if any. Schools without baseball are probably all at the smallest enrollment end of the D1 spectrum

Did not look who the others might be. ________ UC Berkeley and UCLA had teams in 2015-16.

i think ucberkeley gave it up for at least a while Cal announced they cut the program but the team made the CWS that year and the fundraising to save it came through. Oregon just restarted their program about 15 years ago... Just off the top of my head: Wisconsin, Colorado and Syracuse don't sponsor the sport.

I am thankful for being corrected by the facts you have all presented above. What a crime that these schools no longer have baseball teams. What's even sadder is that they probably have soccer teams.

One of my best defenses for Holy Cross keeping and improving its baseball program is that it is the one sport where we have a real division one facility.

Baseball is obviously a mainstream sport, the soundtrack of summer, and cross-generational like no other sport ever has been.

For what it is worth, basketball and baseball are the two biggies in terms of D-1 play. Followed by D-1 football (split about evenly FBS/FCS). Lots of Catholic northeast schools do the D-1 baseball/basketball combo and avoid the D-1 football money pit.
