What's so "brutal" about the first piece hoops? Credit was certainly given to HC, and this is the 'huskers beat writer who, being their beat writer, it's his job to point out where Nebraska failed, which he did, as that what readers in Lincoln want to know.

I thought it was ok as well. Second link gives a poll to rate the Nebraska team...I gave them an A

Amazin'. Sat next to a player's mother. They are from far away. Why HC? She said her son picked it for high academics and d1 baseball. She said opener next year at? OR just with? oklahoma. She said rumblings of field turf for baseball. In 4th inning she said that in 1st inning we should have bunted.
Raise for coach DiC in order, imho.

She said her son picked it for high academics and d1 baseball. ESPN announcers said essentially the same thing, no schollies, the players come to HC for academics and chance to play baseball

That's some pitcher Yale faced: "The Beavers' ace went on to carve up 3-seed Yale (33-17) over the course of seven innings, striking out eight hitters and giving up two hits and one walk while lowering his Division I-best ERA to 0.76." Also PAC 10 player of the year.
Beat Yale!

This year, on February 17, Oklahoma opened in Norman against Long Beach State. Weather was sunny and 67 degrees. Three game series, next two games, temps were also in the 60s. Who wudda thunk? ________________________ As I have noted before, field turf on the baseball field most likely means no more parking. And as its in a flood plain, a prudent person would berm beyond the outfield fence.

Congrats to the baseball team for a great victory! I always expect to hear some sour grapes from message boards of the losing high major team, so it's kinda amusing to me. The win was mentioned this morning on the Channel 4 sports report in Boston with Dan Roche. I know in this age of immediate gratification and instant results, there's been frustration with the overall records of the sports teams - but I feel like there is progress being made all around. Need football to take the torch this fall!
Happy for all you devoted seamheads out there who have followed the baseball program all along - beat Yale!

I guess when you have the PAC-12 player of the year and PAC-12 pitcher of the year you are having a pretty good year. And when your number 2 pitcher now has a 13-0 record. Beat Yale!

From the Pac-12 Website
SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced today the baseball All-Pac-12 honors for the 2017 season, as determined by a polling of the Conference coaches. OREGON STATE’s Nick Madrigal was voted Pac-12 Player of the Year and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. CALIFORNIA’S Andrew Vaughn was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year while Oregon State's Luke Heimlich was voted Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year. Oregon State head coach Pat Casey was named Pac-12 Coach of the Year. ARIZONA's JJ Matijevic was crowned the Pac-12 Batting Champion with a Conference-leading .389 batting average. The All-Pac-12 teams were also announced.
Pac-12 Player of the Year/Defensive Player of the Year – Nick Madrigal, 2B, So., Oregon State Madrigal takes home both honors after batting .377 with 18 doubles, two triples, four home runs, 31 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases during the regular season. Defensively, he played both shortstop and second base for Oregon State, committing just four errors. He has a .981 fielding percentage. He is a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and a third team All-American on the Collegiate Baseball Division 1 All-America list. He was on the 2016 Pac-12 All-Conference and All-Defensive teams, as well as the 2016 Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year.
Pac-12 Freshman of the Year – Andrew Vaughn, 1B, Fr., California Vaughn had a breakout first season in the Pac-12, ranking in the top-10 in multiple conference offensive categories and finishing in a tie with teammate Denis Karas for the Pac-12 lead in home runs. In four games against USC and Stanford, Cal’s first baseman went 7 for 15 with three home runs and 12 RBI as he hit a pair of walk-off home runs against the Trojans to help the Bears sweep their Southern California rivals. The offensive explosion garnered National Player of the Week honors from multiple publications as well as Pac-12 Player of the Week.
Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year – Luke Heimlich, LHP, Jr. Oregon State Heimlich leads the nation with a 0.81 earned run average. He is 10-1 and his 120 strikeouts in 111 innings are 11 shy of tying Jonah Nickerson’s single-season school record of 131 in 2006. He was named to the first team of the 2017 Collegiate Baseball All-America list, is a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, and is one of five finalists for the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s National Pitcher of the Year award.
Pac-12 Coach of the Year – Pat Casey, Oregon State Casey receives Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors for the fifth time in his 23 years as head coach at Oregon State (2005, 2006, 2011, 2013, and 2017). He guided the Beavs to a conference record-setting 27 wins and three losses in league play. Casey attained his 1,000th career win on the same day that the Beavs clinched the 2017 Pac-12 Baseball Championship. Oregon State won all 10 of its conference series, sweeping seven.

Am I correct that, if we beat Yale, we only have to beat Oregon State once to advance?

From the OSU athletics website we see that Coach Casey has an unusual distinction: while coaching a college baseball team he played for the school's basketball team
Casey came to OSU after seven seasons at George Fox College, a NAIA school in his hometown of Newberg, Ore. Under Casey, the Bruins went 171-113-1 (.602) overall and were 155-54-1 against NAIA competition; they won three District 2 titles, five Metro Valley Conference titles and two Cascade Conference titles.
During his time at George Fox, Casey was named Coach of the Year three times in District 2, four times in the Metro Valley Conference and twice in the Cascade Conference.
Casey earned his bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from George Fox in 1990. He played for the University of Portland from 1978-80 and was a first-team All-NorPac Conference outfielder his final two seasons. He was a second-team All-Region selection in 1980. He also lettered in basketball one season.
After being drafted in the 10th round by the San Diego Padres in 1980, Casey played seven professional seasons. He reached Class AAA with the Calgary Cannons in 1985-86 and the Portland Beavers in 1987.
After concluding his professional playing career, Casey took over George Fox’s baseball program; while coaching the baseball team, he also played basketball for the Bruins while completing his degree.
Casey, 56, was born in McMinnville, Ore. He graduated in 1977 from Newberg High, where he starred in football, basketball and baseball.
He and his wife, Susan, have four children - Jonathan (29), Brett (28), Ellie (24) and Joseph (18).

would guess we'll go with Finan in this game, he's a senior and has starting experience. have to hope he can go 4 or 5 innings and then piece together the rest of the game with cronin, escobar, white and whoever. Have no idea what kind of 3rd starter yale has but given their record, he's at least as good as our starter.
Easy to say this is some sort of record, playing the same team 7 times in a single season. Those of us who have been following the Yale - HC results in every sport for many years, know they have had our number all over the place. This would be a sweet victory if we can get it.

Based on ERA, Yale's pitching substantially drops off after their top two starters.

He made five starts during the season and was generally unimpressive (1.74 WHIP, 6.8 BB/9, 5.94 ERA), but he did hurl eight innings of 2-hit shutout ball vs. HC back in March

After 26 pitches yesterday, maybe we would start Reese today with Finan in reserve. Fox has not pitched much recently, but he has started the same number of games as Finan, 4. Maybe White could start. He has 5 starts and threw only 14 pitches friday
