UConn was dead....absolutely dead at halftime....the only team they could have come back against in these United States and actually win was a Tom Gilmore led Holy Cross team.

Seriously....it's the same old bs....UConn is really no bettah than UNH, Harvard etc....Gilmore just has a "Loser Tag" around his neck....we have to get a new head coach....how he has stayed at HC for so long is perplexing

We played and were coached VERY WELL. We were also jobbed by the refs. I basically agree on all three counts...and despite the drop off in the second half so reminiscent of so many games in other years. An extremely disappointing loss, but a real turnaround from the Fordham debacle last November. UConn may be a poor FBS team, but they are an FBS team. If we play every game the rest of the year the way we played tonight, the season should be a very pleasant surprise. Hats off to the players for playing their hearts out the whole way. In the words of that old glee club tune, HAIL TO THE PURPLE VARSITY. And here's hoping we can all sing HAIL TO THE VICTORS by season's end.

Thought the fluke Albany loss a few years ago was as heartbreaking as it could get, yet it continues to get more heartbreaking each time.
To put it in perspective and find some solace, tonight UConn would have lost to the majority of teams on our schedule, and gotten a royal smack down from several, so it played out about right. A win would have been nice but we weren't about to beat Alabama. Just hope the injuries were not bad.

I was encouraged early on by the simple fact we were making first tackles on defense and not dropping passes on offense. Will we play with the same intensity against Monmouth and Lafayette? Does it take an FBS opponent for us to play like that? More close losses and our lifespan decreases.

Disappointing in the end, but the most fun I've had at an HC football game in a long time. Had chances to get it done, but too many mistakes in the second half. Play like that in conference and we'll be happy with the results.

You naysayers are I for a surprise this year. Jc played great tonight. Officiating was terrible vs HC on at least 4 major occasions. Only fault I find with coaching staff is the 4th down play call with PP under center. It was a good showing and I think a good sign for the rest of the season . P.s. I know he got hurt tonight, but I don't know how Riley is not a starter. He is legit.

The same old excuses...."we played hard, there but for the Grace of God..." Sorry....it's just not cutting it....we continually are out-played. out-schemed etc in the 2nd halves of Gilmore led teams....he's a terrible head coach and we are just throwing good money after bad with him as head coach....way, way past time to move on.

You've earned #@*&$~!. What did you (or vegas) predict the score to be? Get over yourself and recognize that it was a winnable game but for a few plays. Appreciate that HC just almost beat a FbS team on the road and looked good (few mistakes) doing it. Then go to bed and yell into your pillow.

Our Offense play calls were excellent. Both the O & D lines played great. I'm not a pollyanna and not a fan of CTG, but our performance was head and shoulders above anything in recent memory. Yes there some player physical errors, but that's expected, especially in the first game.

My thought is that we play just bad enough to lose most of the time. Except for the occasional thumping ( Fordham ) our losses for the most part are in the 1 to 10 point range ( with a lot of 1,2 and 3 pointers ). Always seeming to give up a half time or third quarter lead. There does seem to be a pattern that has developed over the last 4-5 years. Not exactly sure why but it is clearly happening over and over......

Holy Cross football deserves so much bettah....Tom Gilmore is not the answer, he just isn't.
We could be so much bettah with a dynamic, new coach...not sure who that guy is but I know Gilmore will not take us to that "next level"....the proof is in the pudding.

I understand the frustration of so many here.
It's a very disturbing pattern that repeated itself again this evening. I get that.
However, for two and a half quarters I watched a spirited HC squad that executed well on offense and played the toughest defense I have seen in many years. The team looked prepared and well coached.
The next few games will tell us if this year will be different or just another disappointing season.
Let's stay calm until then and hold back any rush to judgement after one game that we gave a BCS team more fits than 95 percent of the board thought we would.

The turning point in the game was the missed field goal followed by the horrific running into the kicker penalty. Following that sequence, we couldn't get our defense off the field and we just got worn down by a bigger, stronger, faster 1-A football team.
Blaming Gilmore for leading the team to a halftime lead over a 1-A team is laughable.
This is probably a make or break year for TG and the outcome of tonight's game should have no impact on that one way or the other. The one thing that tonight does tell us is that we could be seeing a much improved squad compared to the last handful of years, and I am looking forward to seeing the team in the first true test that means something next week @ Bucknell.
That being said, we need to get a lot better on 3rd down and being able to convert plays in tight spots. It feels like a broken record now, but those plays have been killing us. Dom Randolph could hit receivers in tight spots and deliver the ball into tight windows. I just think we need to see more of that to turn the corner this year and win close games.

Awww...you're taking the fun out of it....
Gilmore is awful....Christ, as I've said. he's been here longah than anyone not named Dr Eddie Anderson....i'm sure he's an upstanding fellow but he is certainly not the guy to take HC football to the next level (whatevah that is).....his teams continually falter down the stretch, he has no real success outside of having a great QB....just a bad coach on almost every level ...why Nate Pine retained him is a mystery.
As I've said, repeatedly, we really aren't D1 football, until we shore up our coaching staff.

Just got the kids to bed and now need to go to bed myself. While a very frustrating outcome, I did see noticeable improvements in a lot of areas. I am much more hopeful that we can be very competitive in the PL this year than I was 5 hours ago.
Riley was in obvious pain with what appeared to be a shoulder injury after knocking the UConn QB out of bounds deep in our end. He had ice on it and no jersey shortly after that play. I wonder if his absence had something to do with UConn moving the the ball much better through the air late in the game.
And the stupid penalties really need to stop. We can blame the refs but why are we anywhere near the punter with a 20-7 lead and complete control of the game? How does the play clock run out on the first play from scrimmage after a change-of-possession?
