Caleb was the only Crusader to play all 20 mins of the second half. He has PL all rookie team in his sights as well as All PL eventually Jacob may join him on both. This group of freshman, as long as we manage to keep them all here and together, may be the best complete recruiting class since the mid-Willard era.

HC shot 48% from the floor. I will take that every night out!

That was my initial reaction, but they pressed the ball up the court and then if there was not an immediate opening, went to their offense. Their game will be faster than we have seen in some time. Per Ken Pomeroy our "adjusted tempo" was 68.3, much faster than last year's 60.3, an extremely slow tempo, #349 in D-1. So that's just one game in a long season and we will wait for more such games before drawing any conclusions Ky, did we play any game last season at 68.3 ?

Overall, good first game for our "new team" in the opener at what has been for us over the years a "House of Horrors"!
I was particularly impressed with the way we moved the ball around on offense! Overall team speed/quickness is better than previous years! Offensive performance is ahead of defense. But I expect the defense will perform better as time goes on. Nice to see different defenses being used.
Refs had a particularly bad stretch in the second half that really disrupted the flow of the game !
It is going to be fun and enjoyable watching the Freshmen grow and develop over time!
Very good turnout of posters at the game: Dimarz, Tom, HC92, Lou, hc70, hchoops, HCFC45 and more than likely others that I did not see or know.
The '92 clan was very vocal and did an excellent job filling in for NAD with the "you, you, you, on you"!

- Although it's important to learn how to step on someone's throat when they're down, it's also important to learn how to overcome adversity. Sacred Heart made this a little scary down the stretch and HC found a way to hold on - A lot seemed to go as expected, including foul trouble. Our bigs look like basketball players - tall and skinny. Some of Sacred Heart's bigs look like tight ends. More likely to resort to fouling when getting out muscled. Floyd in foul trouble for much of the game still managed to get 27 minutes on the floor, so that is a good thing. Fouls were very one sided, but I'm going to call it biased officiating. - Freshmen continued to impress, but they're still freshmen and will occasionally make the freshman mistake. When HC turned the ball over late, Floyd might have been charged with the turnover, but it was really a bad pass from one of the freshman, who then did the freshman "follow up a mistake with a foul" For large chunks of the game there were 3 freshmen on the court at a time, but at the end it was the four experienced juniors and Green - In general freshman will give you bumps in the road, but there is cause for some optimism. - On a rebounding note, the best box out of the night was by HC92's youngest boy on someone who was probably Butler's younger brother while going for a tee shirt toss - Hardly a masterpiece, but all wins are nice. All road wins are nicer.

I don't think I can tell from the KenPom data. For yesterday's game we played at 68.2 (still an extremely slow pace) while SHU was at 75.5, and that yielded 70 possessions (I think I am reading it correctly). Spo, possessions are a result of the pace of both teams. Last year we only played two games with 70+ possessions: 75 versus UMass and 73 at Bucknell.

Congrats on the win! Looks like a good freshman class with improved upper classmen. We have a new facility with great weight training availability. How about getting in the weight room NOW to beef up. I fail to understand why this is not accomplished asap!!! Just amazes me that this aspect is overlooked or not emphasized. No excuses with the Luth facilities. Keep winning!!

And I think the Luth just opened...

Probably the biggest crowd I have seen at SHU, free pizza for students was a big draw, and surprise of the night, 'hoops passed for a student and got pizza, and we usually play them closer to Xmas when the campus is empty. Our guards are really fun to watch, and KC was nearly unstoppable on his moves to the hoop. Grandy with some amazing up and under reverse layups high off the boards. And some solid play by Zig, drained the 3 right after missing his first try, and 4 rebounds. SHU coach got his T while they were making their 2nd half run, but it paid off because every call after that went their way including the hilarious only reviewed play of the night which overturned our OOB call. Great win, always a tough game at the Pitt Center. Some impressive new architecture on campus also...

One of the zones may not seem so funky if the coach knew it was a matchup and not a 2-3. hard to prepare for both our defenses esp when we play the 1-3-1 different from most.

Even with fouling out, Grandy also played 16 mins in the second half.

Fun fact Caleb’s 12 points were the most in an HC debut since Cullen Hamilton’s 15 in 2012. wonder if there were any recent games where an HC 2 man backcourt accumulated 26 points ? maybe Burrell-Thompson ?

In the House was the entire Butler family who made the long trek from Latrobe, Penn. I was happy to see so many parents and family members of the players in attendance. Overheard in the stands - (When you wear a purple shirt with CRUSADERS across the back and shoulders, I figure it won't surprise anyone where my allegiance lies. ) "Nice shirt, but isn't Holy Cross getting rid of the Crusader?" "I don't know what to expect from the Cross tomorrow. I would not be surprised to see the game turn into a blow out win for Holy Cross...or for Lehigh." "Why don't they ever seem to try to go after offensive rebounds?" Near the end of the game, HC had three players on the court with 4 PF each. We only had one foul out. That seems to be better than last year. MZ had a nice game when he was in there. Seems more comfortable with the ball this year. The team may be deeper than I thought, or it could simply be that we are still looking at the best combinations. PS: FDU lost to Seton Hall (the "other" SHU) last night 90-68. FDU was without their best guard. He is expected to be back by the time we play them.

The '92 clan was very vocal and did an excellent job filling in for NAD with the "you, you, you, on you"! I agree that we did not simply pass the ball back and forth for long periods of time. The ball was always going into the post. My "favorites" from the refs were (in no particular order): - having to go to the videotape to see that a ball went oob off an HC player after first giving possession it to HC. (It was correct, but how did they not see it?) - missed offensive goal tending on an SHU Shot with the ball on the rim and then having a Holy Cross player caled for a foul. - two clear charges that sent the HC Defender flying...no call, than a few ticky-tack calls on "touching" of an SHU guard as he was moving past - They were not homers, since they had some bad calls against each club, they just were not very good. I agree our surrogate NAD and "company" held their own with the you, you,you,you....OOOONNNNNN YOU cheers. I was the guy wearing the CRUSADER Shirt. I meant to ask everyone who here posts on CROSSPORTS, but getting there after the opening tip, I just got too involved in the game to ever get around to it. Sorry. It would have been nice to put some faces and names together. Yes, that house has been a horror for HC over the years, But it was nice to see a clear Purple section of the stands and to get a seat there - next to Butler's brother. It felt like "home"

Okay, here's a tidbit for you: this year's freshmen have already scored, in one game, more points than last year's freshmen scored for the season: 25 points yesterday (Green 12, Grandison, 7, Butler 3, Faw 3) verus 24 points last year (LeSann 24, Stevens 1, Powers & Flaherty did not score). Yes we know their roles are different but still.....

When was the last time we only had two players attempt a free throw in a game? I think you would have to go back a long, long time...

Near the end of the game, HC had three players on the court with 4 PF each. We only had one foul out. That seems to be better than last year. Don't know how many DQs there were, but overall Holy Cross was one of the least foul-prone teams in the country last season (16.1/G, 25th in D1), as well as 2015-16 (16.7, also 25th). Valid concerns about KC and JF on this score, but overall has not been a big problem under Carmody - especially notable given the aggressive pursuit of turnovers by the defense.

Last year, I am not sure we would have felt comfortable enough to have all four stay in there for several minutes.
