Well, it was fun to watch because it looked like a recruit's highlights video - all of Harvard's shot went in and some sterling plays. You would have thought the Crimson won based on that video. All those multi-star Harvard players can look back at the video and just block out of their minds that they lost to a less experienced "less talented" team.

CBC had great confidence in Caleb to first, play him in the first half when he had 2 fouls, and then start him in the second half when he had 3. Caleb justified the confidence by not committing a fourth.

Very impressive win, won by great team play. If this team does well against URI, my pre-season guess at the number of wins is out the window.
Does not coach Scott focus on defensive play? If so, kudos to him. With as many freshmen playing so early in the season, other than a few plays, the defense never got caught out of position, and the number of Harvard turnovers attest to that.
With respect to the number of players dressed by Harvard, IIRC the Ivies only limit the number of players who dress for IL road games . When Scott was at Princeton, the roster was in the low 20s.
And the video quality, and number of camera angles, was the best I've seen from the Hart for a PLN game. This may have to do with a new video production (oversized) booth that was built near the Ryan room.
The announced attendance, for once, seemed right. I would have guessed around 2500-2700.

I thought there was a way on Stadium to view archived games, but I can't find a link. :-(

Very impressive how quickly the frosh have adapted to the defense. We are long and athletic which is going to make it tough for all opponents to figure out how to attack zone. The freshmen were outstanding last night. Green had a great first half but thought was taken off his game thereafter by foul trouble, thought BC should have taken him out to avoid 3rd foul late in first half when got lead back to 10. Faw is going to be a great big man in this league has range, post moves, and can really handle ball for a big man. Butler gave preview of his potential as a sniper much more aggressive in this game. Grandison made a couple of big baskets and I think he'll continue to get better as the season progresses. What can you say about PB, continues to make all the big plays. It amazes me that he's able to get off his shots around the bucket against much bigger players. JF showed off some moves I never thought he had was outstanding in first half, hopefully this will give him confidence in his offense going forward. Amazing were able to win with KC having a very poor game. The Harvard kid defending him did a great job, didn't let him go to his left and was much stronger than KC. Rebounding will probably be a season long issue and seems to get worse as the game goes on. Maybe guys get worn down by banging with bigger bodies. All in all not much to complain about especially when I had them at 0-2 in my preseason prognostication.

I still don't understand why Grandison's 3-ball at the shot clock buzzer was nullified. The video clearly showed that the ball was in the air when the shot clock hit "0".

Harvard Crimson coverage www.thecrimson.com/article/2017/11/17/mens-bball-holy-cross-2017-gamer/Watched as much of the game as I could given that it just kept disappearing from my screen, as opposed to the freezing of the stream that I sometimes get. Have to like the freshmen, a lot. I also have to admit that I was not originally a PB fan. I figured he was one of those kids who was very well prepared coming in and would have only modest room for improvement. He really is a confident kid and I enjoy watching him play. I am not going to lose sleep over the rebounding. Clearly, Carmody and his staff are of the mindset that offensive rebounding is overrated vis a vis getting back on defense.

They played without fear and stood right up to Harvard’s multi star players. I think any doubts they had went away with JF’s ‘in your face’ slam early in the game. Don't know if it made the #SCTop10 It was a Jehylight! [EDIT] Make that 2 Jehylights!

It it stood out to me how Butler, Grandison, Faw and Green were willing to take shots at the end. They didn’t all go in, however there was no hesitation putting it up..a very confident group of players..

Grandison has fouled out both games. Fouls are something to watch for with the young guys.

Do you think we will see Faw and Floyd on the floor together at some point, seems Faw has ability to play at the 4 position.

Brain droppings from last night. . .
- Lots of concern pre-season about foul trouble with the bigs. Well every "big" in the rotation fouled out. In fact they are averaging 6.8, 8.2, and 11.8 fouls per 40 minutes. Yet the team, including the coaching staff, has been able to manage it thus far to go 2-0
- Lots of concern pre-season about rebounding, especially if the bigs get in foul trouble. Thus far outrebounded 51-84. Yet the team, including the coaching staff, has been able to manage it thus far to go 2-0
two things I thought as potential weaknesses have proven true, but the guys have managed to pull through.
- Speaking of fouls, Green picked up 2 in about the first 10 minutes. Went to the bench. Came back in with a few minutes to go in the half and picked up a 3rd. Green played almost the entire second half without picking up a 4th. That takes a maturity not normally found in freshmen
- Once again an adversity game. They had a decent lead that eroded down the stretch, and they did not wilt. I'll repeat my thought from Sacred Heart: These games build character and that's important especially for a young team. This will pay dividends down the road. Stepping on someone's throat when they're down is also important, but right now I like the dealing with adversity.
- FT's 17-24 vs 11-18. I think Benzan was 5 for 6 down the stretch when Harvard was forced to foul. Take that away and the foul shot disparity looks huge.
- Butler played real short minutes in the first half. I thought surprisingly few, but played a ton in the second half
- Second half bench got shorter with only 7 guys playing the first 19+ minutes. Perhaps a function of Green and Grandison getting so much bench time with foul trouble, they were fresh to get closer to their planned minutes
- There were a couple of instances, particularly after out of bounds deflections that did not re-set the clock, that HC did not seem to be aware of the shot clock. When Grandison put in the 3 that was disallowed, he was dribbling towards the sideline with about 2 on the clock. That was blatant, but there were othters.
- Marcellis Perkins was on the bench, but did not dress
- Based on a 2 game sample, this team is fun to watch

With Faw as Floyd’s backup, I don’t see both on the floor at the same time very often. In my mind, the 2 will split up the 40 minutes at the 5..However when Stevens is healthy, he might change that equation a bit.

Definitely an inexcusable mistake by the refs. And in case you want to see how bad. Once I found the play, it took me two reviews and about 30 seconds to pause the video correcty to get this screen capture. I have no idea how you get this wrong with review! Might want to send this to the league co-ordinator of officials and request that these guys not work another PL (much less HC) game. Horrible job. Click image to see larger Attachment Deleted

Now if we just had good video streaming! I agree! I thought it was my internet connection here on vacation in Georgia... Solid win, the team hung in there. The freshman are contributing, PB is the leader of the pack! That 3 by Grandison that was disallowed was big.. I still don’t know why it didn’t count... I got to see that shot replayed several times. It left Grandy's hand with 1 second showing on the shot clock. Anyone heard anything remotely like a reason for it being disallowed?
