Nothing to do with the Saluki's, but through the OOC part of the schedule, Green, Butler, Grandison, and Niego have all been named HC player of the game. Only Butler's came in a winning effort. Nice spread to have 4 different freshmen get that honor. It's a fairly recent promotion so you can't go back and say when we had multiple freshmen win it. Thompson and Alexander both had games as freshmen that might have been considered worthy of player of the game. Same can be said for Brown and Evans. That's about it for the last decade. Granted they've been forced to grow up faster than normal freshmen and they've been expectedly inconsistent, but this is one random metric saying the group has decent depth strength or weakness...what is the count for the junior class, excluding Floyd? They frustrate me and I had higher hopes. Still 2/3 of the dressed non-Floyd juniors are averaging 9+ PPG. If we're going to talk about the juniors excluding Floyd, I will say that the freshmen excluding Green are inconsistent role players. That is about all you can hope for from mid-low major freshmen. This team will go as far as their juniors take them. Because of that, I will say that to date the juniors, excluding Floyd are the strength of a weak team

Why “excluding Floyd” ? If the juniors are the strength(do not necessarily agree), then Floyd is the the main strength imo.(at least until KC gets fully healthy.)

These selective stats ("excluding Floyd") sound a bit like the old Lincoln "joke" that asked "Aside from that, Ms Lincoln, how was the play?" Is it really worth anything if stats exclude the best player? I feel the only benefit is for those trying to denigrate an entire class which, of course, can't be done if Floyd keeps improving. Sorry about that.

Jehyve Floyd's improvement has been tremendous-- he is playing more, shooting more, and scoring and rebounding more
Stat= Per 40 Minutes LY/TY
PF= 6.7/5.0 this certainly helps him stay in the game longer as we rely on him as the main #1 Rebounds= 5.4/8.4 impressive Points= 7.6/14.9 !!! FGA= 5.9/9.7 Great to see him taking more shots (technically, taking shots more frequently) and connecting at an even higher rate

If his fouling continues to decrease, his production will most likely increase even more. hopefully the offense will go to him even more if we see man defenses. Only negative is that JF’s increased minutes would probably reduce MF’s minutes even more.

While watching SIU, seeing Randall (Mother) Falker again reminded me a bit of how Jehyve plays (although at that Falker was more established).

Here's the update on the Ken Pomeroy O-Ratings, acknowledging that it attempts to measure only offensive efficiency. Thanks Ky some questions why is MF not on the main list ? Woo Gray is tracking the 15 freshmen with the most minutes played and Matt is not in that group. I added him and CN outside of the main group as they are Crusaders
what do the numbers in parentheses mean ? the (parenthetical) numbers indicate that the player's O Rating has declined, e.g. Jaworski of Lafayette has declined by 6 points why do some players have a + and some do not the + indicates the player's O Rating has improved, e.g. Jacob Grandison has improved by 11 points and is now at 98.0

I guess Petrie must be getting his low release shot off against more teams than just us, 13 ppg in 24 minutes is really good production.

Steph Curry, Trae Young and many good shooters also have low releases. The quickness of their releases allows them to get the shot off before the defender arrives.

I guess Petrie must be getting his low release shot off against more teams than just us, 13 ppg in 24 minutes is really good production. Not so much from deep. Since he torched HC (7-8) from beyond the arc, he's only making 29% of his threes (10-34). But he's made over 50% of his twos during that span and has scored in double digits each of the last six games. Along with Iorio, Burns, and Whyte, he's a leading contender for the all-rookie team at the halfway point of conference play.

One other player to keep an eye on is LU's Marques Wilson. Since mid-December, he had been averaging 12-13 mpg. However last Saturday he played 26 minutes and scored 20 points. Then last night he played 46 minutes, getting 19 points (on 8 shots) and 8 rebounds. Also 6 assists, 2 blocks, 3 steals. Too many turnovers however.
His Pomeroy ORating is now 110.8, which tops all the PL freshmen.

Then early in the second half - when they had a chance to break the game wide open - they turned it over 5 time in the first 2:35. After that, they built the lead back up to 11 points with 4:20 left. Loyola went to a press and LU turned it over six consecutive trips up court! Wouldn't expect any better from a Brett Reed-coached team. When the dust settled, their 11-point lead had become a 2-point deficit. In total, they had 15 turnovers in 20 minutes in the second half.

Zignorski has been taking on a role of "settling things down" when an opponent goes on a tear - both with defense and some 3 point shots. Like the 6 frosh, he has developed a role for himself...cooperation, not rivalry.

Will the ROW be Petrie or Butler this week? AB had a great last game, but Petrie also had solid scoring with that 3 pointer of his. Will it matter that Lafayette lost their last two games?
