Is Ralph at the game? Guy courtside looks like him I've seen him at a few games, KY, and although it's not him, from a distance it sure does look like him! Glad to see some posters sticking behind the guys.....at the very least, saw some poised and determined looking faces down the stretch. Tiny, tiny crowd, but we did our best to make some noise.

Just got home, a few points..HC did not play a 1-3-1 or the match-up zone tonight..It was a 1-2-2, 3/4 court teaser press into a 3-2..None of the crazy slides needed in the match-up..got to shooters on the wing, limited penetration and did asolid effort on the boards..JF was a monster around the hoop at bout ends..not sure how many blocks, but must have a handfull at least..HC even played M2M on inbounds plays under the defending hoop! Looked like a different team on D..much more energy and confidence tonight.. On offence, JF was solid in the post, no stopping him with the jump hook or the spin move. I'd love to see him get more touches in the low post..Loyola played a lot of man, and HC looked good in the second half vs it..First half, the ball moved on the perimeter, but nobody looked at the hoop. In the 2nd half, AB started a trend going to the hoop, and it caught on with KC, JG, CG and PB..IMHO, AB is the key to the offense..He is the only player right now who is a threat to hit a 3 or put it on the bounce and score going to the hoop...He sat out a major portion of the 1st half with 2 fouls...JG is really coming along, he looks more and more comfortable out there..
Not a real pretty win, but one well needed..JF and AB are proving to be the physical players this team needs...CBC has to be applauded for his changes in the game plan from previous games on D...Free throw shooting needs to pick up. getting to the line will help, practice in games is the best solution...CBC also had the team prepared for an inbound play with .6 (I think) on the shot clock..KC made a great lob to JG who caught it and shot it for 2....Lots of things to like about the win...

I know it was a 1-2-2 teaser press, but we dropped back into the matchup. There was always 1 man on the ball and the other 4 tried to match up with the 4 offensive players Scott did the same in the game he coached for CBC.

It was a much more conventional 3-2..None of the crazy rotations forcing players to change sides of the court..One time JF came flying out to a shooter on the wing (closer to the middle than the wing) and CBC told him not to do that, stay home! Defenders passed offensive players on, didn't follow them....

The 12 3-point attempts by HC was the fewest since 12 vs URI and 11 vs Maine in 2016 OOC play

That is one of the main RW principles requiring much communication.

Grandy’s rebounds were important, esp when JF was on the bench He also led in minutes played with 32.

JG has 8 assists and 1 turnover in PL play as well as 20 boards and only 5PF. His "O-Rating" of 124.2 in PL play is the highest for any Crusader (AB is second) and is 9th among all PL players

Good work, Dave. Unfortunately, I had 4th Grade BBall practice tonight. Worked on all of our junk defenses.

Agreed, we were certainly playing the same half court defense while I was watching (much more entertaining football game btw), but is it really a matchup? The guys off the ball always look far more interested in the guy with the ball, and trying to run at him, than they do with actually playing their own guy. We typically have 2 and a lot of times 3 guys playing the ball.

Happy to get the W. Not a great opponent but may be starting to find some things that will work. I agree. IMO Austin Butler has earned a solid 30 minutes every game. His shooting and overall energy were a key to the win.

If the boys made some foul shots, the game wouldn’t have been a nail biter down the stretch. So far, we lost to a surprisingly very good Colgate team, and two close road losses. It’s hard to win on the road with a young team. I know many were out on the ledge, but there’s a lot to like here in early January. We’ll be ok!

Very nice comeback win that was much needed. I thought we were done when Floyd picked up 4th foul with about 13 minutes left and down 9. AB, JG, MF , MZ and PB played the next 8 minutes and brought us all the way back. AB and JG led the way but MF made a huge 3 and MZ made a great pass and a crucial lefty runner in the lane while PB was very steady at the point. Hopefully can build off this win but two tough games coming up Navy on road and BU home. Yeah 1843 Kostecka didn't have a great game but still was better than the guys who replaced him 2 DNP's while the other guy is I think the first player thrown out of school since King Gaskins.

FTA vs Colgate, Laf, and Lehigh combined. . . 24 FTA vs Loyola . . .27
Good things happen when you go to the hoop.
I think NAD is becoming a Butler favorite. After one of his 3's in the comeback stretch he held up 3 fingers and looked right at Dave
Nitpicking for Possum. . . technically Grandison is one of the guys who replaced Kostecka since he has Cohen's scholarship
