From what I hear the Worcester deal is much better, and will clean up two polluted, empty lot eyesores in the Kelley Square area. Luccino wants an urban ballpark. The Worcester location is perfect. My bet is on the team moving. Kudos on a very solid call on June 1!

Worcester politicians trying to pull this off is hysterically funny to think about. Think Michael Scott negotiating a raise. They don't even know what they don't know. Exactly. Paw Sox aren't leaving RI, just using clueless Worc pols as a pawn to get what they want. Paw Sox are going nowhere. Worc serves as a willing sucker for the Paw Sox to gain leverage much like Hartford got played by Bob Kraft to get a new stadium in Foxboro. You have a better chance of getting zapped by lightning and hitting the lottery on the same day than you do of seeing the Paw Sox leaving Rhode Island for Worc. Nothing required to think about at all Tom. Worc is merely a willing sucker in the Paw Sox's leverage game. It's how Worc Govt. works- makes them feel important, when they are anything but. So, which has the greater chance of happening? PawSox to WooSox or Amazon 2nd headquarters moving to Worcester? The answer to both: Right on the money, per usual, gents! HC still going to the Hockey East too?

I doubt anything definitive will be put forth by the Pawsox tomorrow. The team is in the midst of a home-stand with a game later on Friday night followed by games Saturday and Sunday in Pawtucket. I doubt the team announces anything while it is at home given the potential for an ugly situation. If they move, the team will not make any public announcement unless they are either on the road or the season is concluded.

A presser by no means indicates a deal is done. The 20-somethings won't remember this, but those older will:

I have been in the naysayer category since day 1. When the day comes I will be the first to admit I'm wrong and that day may be approaching sooner than I thought, but it is not today. The area that was shown in the Telegram some months back seems too small. Horrible access in and out. Potential environmental stuff. I'm sure that TPTB have looked at all of this, but it seems like a lot on top of building a stadium. It would have made way more sense if Walmart hadn't moved into the city

A presser by no means indicates a deal is done. The 20-somethings won't remember this, but those older will: That one still hurts. I had an office on the top floor of the Hartford Steamboiler Building overlooking the site of the proposed Stadium. I had big plans to sell tickets a la the rooftops at Wrigley.

Updated rumors say that they're going to get rid of the bear mascot because of it's association with PAWtucket. Instead, because of Worcester's long association with the Higgin's armory, the new mascot will be a sword wielding knight in full armor

I know of a mascot and logo they can get for practically nothing, which I suspect you were thinking as well.

"The re-working of Kelley Square, a traffic riddle that is a city landmark, is part of the larger plan." Hope so . . .

Every public school student in Worcester will receive a free ticket to attend a game, according to the Mayor.

Watching the press conference now. Sounds like the Red Sox will be helping pay for the project. I wonder why they wouldn't invest in the RI area. I wouldn't be surprised if the city of Pawtucket ttied to file some sort of lawsuit against the Boston Red Sox that will probably be dismissed.
Interesting in that the plans show no outfield stands. Reminds me of fitton just with more infield grandstand seats.
I dont think a team that plays April to the beginning of September will take away from Holy Cross games. I do think it is lousy that we might lose rental income at Fitton if the Bravehearts fold from their college league.
I think the field has been in solid shape in the late Spring and summer. Last years PL Championship series was great.
Cant imagine our state throwing that much money, 35 million in there

Congrats to Worcester.
In the last couple years, the city has made big moves to bring Cliff Rucker's investments to the city with the Railers and now this huge news with the Red Sox. Meanwhile Holy Cross sits off in the corner with their schmenzers in their hands (to quote Michael Felger).
With all of this investment in the city and interest in bringing sports franchises in, this should really make you think about how badly HC botched the Hockey East situation.

State investment sound like market-rate housing and Kelley Square redesign. Good luck with that one. Kelley Square somehow seems to work as it is.

I guess congratulations are in order to Worcester. The city offered a deal that was too good to pass up for ownership as most all onus is on the public. It will improve the Kelly Square area but I am skeptical that this project will pay for itself given the total public investment as the politicians are touting. It is now up to Worcester and the surrounding area to build a new fan base and adequately support the team year after year. Do not expect fans from the RI area to follow the team. Their support for the franchise ended today.
