HC sold its 6,000 allotted tickets and doubtless many others bought tickets either from BC, went with friends from BC that had tickets or picked them up directly at the stadium. With an official crowd of 40,000, 25% would be 10,000 and that's pretty close to what I would have guessed.
I did tell someone despite the much smaller size of our school, I had little doubt that there were a lot more Crusader fans yesterday than UMass would have brought to Alumni the week before.
Almost as importantly, while on campus, one got the impression that the BC family was very happy to see some purple on their campus for a game again after such a long absence. (Of course, they also didn't mind a very large win too, spoiled by a couple of blocked punts for TDs - that'll stick in their craw for awhile).

Recent BC vs 1-AA attendance.
Wagner 2016 22,728 Maine 2015 29262 Howard 2015 26132 Maine 2014 28676 Villanova 2013 30,922 Maine 2012 30685
With HC drawing 10K more than any of these. I'm sure BC is looking to schedule HC a lot in the future.

Pretty sure BCs last punt was executed about 10 yds further back than the previous two

Was at the game. BC people were totally impressed by the size and class of the H C contingent. It was impressive.

HC could be a team/teams thay central Mass embraces, if the HC administration wants it to.

It was a great, New England college football day. Too bad HC administration threw it away for so long. Happy it's back.

Shank Shaughnessy asked Fr. Bouroughs why the game was played. I assume he did it in person at the stadium, not on the phone.

We need Central MA to embrace us again. The covering of the stadium seats sickens me. When was the last time Fitton sold out or had 90% attendance?
No matter how endearing this weekend really felt - and trust me it was absolutely awesome, positive and hell, pretty fun too - there's little probability this game would return to Fitton. Too lopsided in Finances, Facilities, etc.
Who - or what - is our best shot?

Biggest crowd for BC vs HC since 1954. The 'Aer Lingus' Foxboro game drew 39,500 something AIR....definitely not 40,000.

Who - or what - is our best shot? 1) Developing a great 1-AA program and winning a lot 2) Adding lights so there are no more 1:00 PM (or even worse, 12:00 PM) kickoffs -- starting games in the 2:00-4:00 window would remove children's sporting events on Saturday AM from the reasons why people don't attend games, and still allow alums to travel from 2-3 hours away without getting home after midnight. 3) Creating a fun environment and full gameday experience -- meaning removing all of the foolish Pine gameday regulations and RGIS security, eliminating the police herding people like cattle on Freshmen Field, selling A Power-5 team is never coming to Worcester, and there are no 1-AA teams that would draw any attention from the HC community and Worcester area on their own. We need to have all of our focus on how we can transform ourselves -- we are not at point where we can schedule any opponents that are going to do much for us, and that is not going to help our W-L problem. There are 4 positions at HC that can have a significant impact on HC's athletic success and fan following: Football Coach, Men's Basketball Coach, Athletic Director, and President. After Mark Duffner left in '91 and George Blaney left in '94, Ralph Willard has been the only person in any of those four roles who could actually serve as a transformative figure. I am very hopeful that Bob Chesney may be the second (but that still leaves a gap in the other three roles).

I've been trying to find a box-score/listed attendance for that '83 game to no avail so far. I thought it was bigger as it seemed like most of Sullivan was filled that day and had a capacity of roughly 60K then....again, memory and purple-tinted glasses This video gives you an idea of the size of the crowd that day. Saturday was definitely the biggest crowd to see BC-HC on either campus. Alumni held undah 40K I'm nearly certain through our last game there in 1985.

Our best bet is in 2086 trying to get BC to come back for the 100th anniversary of the last game in Fitton -- or maybe the can find some other series milestone in between now and then to make a return game happen. FCS schools don't host FBS teams AT ALL any more, even G5 schools. The only exceptions are to mark historical events like Yale hosting Army to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Yale Bowl.
A Fenway matchup with either BC or UMass is much more likely to happen than a home game.

But it's still pretty cool to think that more people were in the stands at Chestnut Hill than at the World Series game that night. Obviously, if Fenway could have held 400,000 for a decisive World Series game, it would've sold out.

I note that the stadium at BC features beer on sale for consenting adults. I used to be against that idea, but I have come around, after attending other venues on college campuses where beer is allowed. I think this is an idea Holy Cross should explore. It might help with the late arrival problem from tailgating fans on Freshman Field, and that would be awesome.

I would be happy to make an athletic department donation to go towards a couple of Texas tankers or towards a kegerator unit. Sick of driving up to Worcester in January for a basketball game and my best concession option is flat soda served with a microwave personal pizza. A cold beer (or even moderately cool) for each half would be perfect.

FWIW Stony Brook University just started selling beer inside the stadium for the very first time ever. Sort of a double move - you can no longer leave the stadium and return BUT you can buy/drink beer in a 'beer garden' area just above the end zone with a view of the game (low bleachers at that end of the stadium). Can't take the beer back to your seat. Very strict ID checking for all ages. Keeps the fans in the stadium at half time and gets them in by kickoff. Overall a very good idea IMHO.
