Ball may have been moving when receiver was going to the ground.
They reviewed a Cozier touchdown that wasn’t even close, but wouldn’t take a 2nd look at that?

Well, one thing we can say for sure. Whatever "culture of quitting" that we saw all too frequently in recent years from Gilmore teams is long gone.
We're on to BC!

17-24 final. It's almost as if we needed to see more than one series before drawing firm conclusions about the team....

Very promising performance for the “Chesney Era.”
I really hope we can get the OC situation squared away.

Never happy about a loss but I feel pretty good about the Chesney era right now. To keep that good feeling, I’m going to do some yard work next Saturday afternoon.

Holy Cross D, the O-line, Crozier, and overall conditioning were the big pluses for HC today. And no key injuries that I could see.

Officials called it pushing off by the receiver AND they did not believe he had control when he went out of bounds...just not our day. BUT, clearly HC's half!!! I am looking forward to seeing some good football from HOLY CROSS this season.

Tough place to play, and the stripes made it 17 on 11. The boys had the jitters early and it showed. They dug themselves too deep a hole, but looked composed and almost pulled it out. Some concerns, but a lot to be optimistic about.

Team proved no quit in them.
Alexander looks like the real deal and Cozier is our off-speed pitch.
Clifford showed guts and heart if not always good judgement. His inexperience and competiveness showed.
The difference in this game was the Raider fumble recovery for TD deep in our own territory. Seemed apparent in the first 2-3 possessions that we wanted to establish our run game with not great results. In the end, had it been us with a little lead, we could have out-'gated them and ran the clock.
Credit Colgate for not trying to get a final score and ran the clock out.
Glad to see it was the other team who was gassed at the end of the game. Same strength and conditioning coach we've always had, is LAC a difference maker?

Missed Offensive PI followed by no review is why these refs are 1AA colllege officials. Still probably don’t win, but that ended the game. Credit to Colgate, even with the missed PI their Soph QB made two high pressure throws to convert on 3rd and then 4th and long. He’s going to be tough the next 3 years.
Play calling needs to be addressed quickly but Chesney will do that.

I wonder when was the last time we held Colgate to 91 yards on 43 rushing attempts?
Last year Colgate got 197 yards on 41 attempts.
RB Holland Atts & Yards
16 for 109 LY
16 for 31 TY

Night and day between last year’s Colgate game and this year’s game. The future is bright. This year will be a little tough given the schedule but we’re on our way back.

HC's receivers (who are not RBs) caught nine passes for 59 yards. That's simply not going to do it.

CTG was dismissed six days before last year's game with Colgate, so not the best game to benchmark.

Let's be realistic, with some cause for optimism.
Colgate is expected to win the PL this year and considered "loaded" by PL standards.
Holy Cross is expected to come in 4th and be essentially a rebuilding year.
We lost by 7 points, all of which was essentially gifted to them via the fumble for TD, not to mention the other 2 turnovers. We were down 24-0 and scored all the remaining points in the game.
The only thing that would have made Clifford's debut more difficult is if his first game was against BC.
The end result is about what I expected before the season started. When we got down 24-0, thought it's be a rout, like or worse than last year. When we came back, you can't be but proud of the team. I think the Crusaders will finish better than 4th but I also suspect Colgate may not win the league.

Night and day between last year’s Colgate game and this year’s game. The future is bright. This year will be a little tough given the schedule but we’re on our way back. Basically sums up how I feel....the tough thing Chesney has to deal with will be keeping them up as we'll more than likely be 1-5 or so after 6 games. Hopefully not, but realistically we'll be only favored ovah the Bison in the 1st 6 games.

CTG was dismissed six days before last year's game with Colgate, so not the best game to benchmark. Benchmark against any of the five 25+ point losses we’ve had the last two seasons. We competed today when we easily could have folded and almost pulled out a W.

Instead of getting weaker as the game wore on, we got stronger and wore them down rather than vice versa. We also made better in-game coaching decisions, and controlled the line of scrimmage. Already we’ve significantly improved on the three fundamental aspects of the game which have eluded us for the better part of a decade and a half. Caveat - how much was ‘gate on their heels because they had no game film on our new O?
BC will be a challenge. Glad we got that first half out of our system beforehand.
I’m not sure ‘gate is going to run the table in the PL this year. You never know how this season may turn out.

I didn't get to see the game, but the 180 degree pivoting aspect of the overall feelings of this game reminds me quite a bit of the Bucknell hoop game thread in 2016....when the season eulogy was being written just before The Shot.
Sounds like a promising beginning.

Technically and physically the best effort I have seen from the squad in years- while hope is not a strategy, I am excited about the future!
