When was the last a Holy Cross football team gained more yards rushing than passing? Today: 169 rushing 113 passing. Miles Alexander just shy of 100 yard game with 95.
Time of possession, as always against Colgate, was in their favor: 34:15 to 25:45
Reason for the loss: Points off turnovers: 17 for Colgate 3 for Holy Cross

I didn't get to see the game, but the 180 degree pivoting aspect of the overall feelings of this game reminds me quite a bit of the Bucknell hoop game thread in 2016....when the season eulogy was being written just before The Shot. Sounds like a promising beginning. I am extremely hopeful that the “Chesney Era” from here on out will produce a better winning percentage than the .448 clip the basketball program has been chugging along at since “The Shot.”

The highlight video at goholycross.com captures some big HC plays such as the great Clifford to Cozier TD pass, but the one I like best is that "hit of the day" sack by Corey Stefanik around the 20 yard line.

I'm guessing at least some people will be happy with a league championship in the next 3 years.

According to the box score 14 freshmen played for HC yesterday. I've never checked on this before but I have to think that's a very high number. I believe freshman Spencer Gilliam made the first tackle of the game on the opening kickoff

I believe freshman Spencer Gilliam made the first tackle of the game on the opening kickoff PL rules allow 55 to travel (unless that number has gone up in recent years) -- that is a very high number, especially for week one.

Since I missed the first half of the game while working a half day, we are still unscored upon in the Chesney era from my point of view.
The best moment of the game, IMO, was the fumble recovery midway thru the third quarter off the Colgate punt return. I have never seen a Crusader team exhibit anywhere near that energy while down 3+ scores. The entire punt cover unit and the bench were going crazy.
The first game in 2007 was at Umass and we were down 37-9 following a Minuteman TD right out of the halftime gate. We end up cutting the lead to 37-30 with the ball before a late FG sealed a 40-30 loss in Amherst. The emotion of the second half yesterday brought back memories of that day, though this time it was the defense leading the way. If we find more ways to move the ball, this team can hang in any game on the schedule minus BC.

Didn't get to watch the game but, after reading all comments, am encouraged with several aspects. Get the passing game going also so we are a complete viable offensive threat.

According to the box score 14 freshmen played for HC yesterday ... I have to think that's a very high number. I really have no data to respond, but my thought is that it may be slightly higher than normal -- but if so, not by that much. Two factors are involved here -- [1] the PL travel limitations (I thought the number was 57, but I'm not sure, so 55 may be right), and [2] the high number of freshmen on the roster (33 freshmen out of a total of 90). I suspect that many of the freshmen listed in the participation report in the box score played on special teams -- and that's fine. It's a way to get some in-game experience and a feel for what it's like to be on the field during an actual game. Apart from special teams, I did see the following freshman in the game -- OL Olsofka, DL Modak, RB Oliver, and DB Smith. There may have been others as well (I think OL Nasuti in particular). .

We played 4 freshmen (Holloman, Knight, Bowler, Brekke) in our first PL road game at Bucknell in the second week of last season. Different coach, different opponent, etc, I know.

I definitely think 14 is a very high number of freshmen to be on the travel squad, ESPECIALLY IN WEEK ONE. I'm sure times have changed a bit now that we are fully embedded in the scholarship era but I looked up the 2006 roster (the year that my classmates were freshmen) and tried to make a comparison. In that year, we had 30 freshmen on the roster. IIRC correctly, AT MOST 6 of those 30 traveled to a PL road game at any point that season. One or two more may have gone on road trips in non-conference.

Guild had 107, Pujals 82, Cozier 77, Alexander 59, and Walker 29.

Technically and physically the best effort I have seen from the squad in years- while hope is not a strategy, I am excited about the future! Last year v UNH? Watched both games and thought we played harder for 60 minutes yesterday. I think we were pretty good against UNH and caught them early. Outside of turnovers and conservative play calling yesterday, our overall execution (blocking and tackling) was every bit as good yesterday. To me playing harder for 60 minutes is part of learning what is required to win-in my mind an important step forward..

Bob Chesney just received a shoutout during the LSU - Miami game. LSU’s kicker transferred from Assumption after two years. In fact, Assumption has been mentioned three or four times already during the broadcast.
Got to love Sean McDonough.

That mention of Coach Chesney was pretty neat. It caught me by surprise. Nice to know we have a coach getting national mention!

He just said "Bob Chesney, remember that name."

Mcdonagh said Worcester a beautiful city in Massachusetts. Thinks more people are at this game than Cole Tracy has ever kicked in front off in 38 games at Assumption. Even put some clips of him kicking at Assumption
Thinks Chesney will become a great coach.
