Weird to think that in 1986, 32 years before that would have been 1954...wasn't everything in black&white then?
I was still on the Hill and actually did the play by play of the last BC game on WCHC. Where were you?

What kind of made me think of this is that I just tweeted at Bill Simmons on how this will be his 1st BC football game as a Holy Cross man. He was still in high school in 1986. No response from Bill yet btw....

In the stands at Fitton watching the mudbowl. Lot of good players on that BC squad. Remember Wiley left the game w/the flu or something. Pride of Gardner Shawn Halloran had a strong game for BC IIRC.

BC was really good that year unfortunately....went on to beat Georgia in a bowl game that year.....I have nevah heard Fitton louder before or since when we went up 14-0 in that game in 1986.

Was at the game. Had a caravan of eight cars, 36 total people, who drove up from the Naugatuck Valley in CT. We tailgated in the HoJos parking lot before and after the game. Had a blast, and everyone would gladly do it again. Unfortunately, the program went in another direction. You think any of those 36 would come on up for a game against Lehigh?? I could promise them a free steak dinner at the One11 and not get any takers. It’s a shame.

I was at the game. I know we tailgated on the street but I don't recall much about the day other than the early lead. On the other hand, I have a lot better recollection of the 1984 Flutie Heisman Trophy Day game. I was just out of HC. We went up on Friday night, spent the whole weekend on campus. I remember being at the package store picking up a keg when it opened and being on Freshman Field when it opened. Here is the Crusader's coverage of the game college.holycross.edu/departments/archives/exhibits/crusader/crusader_pages/1980s/12-05-1986.pdf

I was at the 1986 game and at Flutie's last game at Fitton Field with the helicopter ready to take him to New York for the Heisman ceremony.
At the 1986 game I remember Holy Cross fans yelling up at Father Brooks, in his box above the stands, when things turned bad. Blaming him for the fall of Holy Cross football. Turned out to be a sad day.

At the game with my dad and others. My sophomore year at HC. Great tailgate (although Freshman Field was off limits due to mud) with classmates and families. Thought we had a shot after going up 14-0. The only time I had at Fitton Field where I had to sit in the seat assigned by my ticket! Great memories!

I was sitting on about the 35 yard line on the 'visitor' - new bleachers with the BC band sitting in the smaller corner seats to my left.

If Crossports had existed then, what time would your last post have been on Sunday morning?

Pretty cool to think that so many guys here were at Fitton in 1986.....switching gears a little, first BC-HC game you attended? 1971 Schaefer Stadium here...Fitton "snowed out" I believe....don't remembah the particulars too well in a 21-7 loss....I think Joe Wilson may have won the O'Melia in a losing effort.

1963 HC over BC 9-0 at Fitton with Jon Morris shadowing BC’s QB Jack Concannon the entire game was our class of ‘67 the last class to beat BC twice—‘63 and ‘66 ?

I wish...I actually had some WCHC basketball shows and some hoop game tapes on cassette but they have been lost ovah the years sadly. We put on a quite a show during the football season of 1986.... we were the scourge of the then Colonial League, Lafayette almost kicked us out the press box there, thought the Army guys were going to kill us in the Michie press box as we whooped it up after we had won...my former roommate Billy Young won that game with a FG....just an incredible day.

I'm wondering how far back we can go here....probably not too far beyond 1963....my Dad actually grew up a BC fan living in Milton, saw the light when he matriculated at HC...he did not go the legendary 1942 game, listened on the radio crying he said lol....i'm guessing the first one he went to was somewhere in the mid/late 1940s.

i was there, as well, thinking along with all of us misguided students that a 10-0 record and 14-0 lead were sure signs of an upset in the making!
How many unanswered points came after that? about 40, as i recall!
aside to HC87...never got to call a BC-HC football game though, as my stint started the following year, but it was great to be on the air for that 11-0 season! Those PL blowouts allowed for a lot of ad libbing and creative broadcasting!!

Was working in the Chemistry Department at HC in the Fall of '86 living in Worcester and became engaged to CHC84 the prior March.
Went to the game with my then future father-in-law and fiance. With all of the snow and then thaw to mud, I believe Freshman field was closed so I have a vague recollection of "tailgating" in Swords or Haberlin possibly with several members of the science faculty/staff before heading down to Fitton.
Was sitting on the HC side, open endzone, about 2/3 of the way up on roughly the goal line. Both 1st quarter TD's were scored in that endzone right in front us and then ...
That Christmas, was talking with my brother, who was a junior Loyola Maryland then, and he told me that he was watching whatever the college football game was on ABC in Baltimore that day and Jim Lampley broke in with news of a "major college upset brewing ..." after HC went up 14 - 0. Sigh ...
For all sad words of tongue and pen, The saddest are these, 'It might have been'.
Beat BC.
