As I’ve said, Wade looked like a legitimate FCS QB two years ago when he filled in for Pujals. Unless he has significantly regressed, I’m not sure why he would be behind Clifford. Sophomore Wade was certainly better than what we had in week one.

And I can remember posts on this board about how PP and the receivers had spent summers on timing and routes. Perhaps Clifford and Wade did similarly this summer, and there was simply no reporting of it. However, I doubt that QBs in Div III or even Div II spend their summers practicing with their receivers. Wade threw one pass in the BC game where there was obvious miscommunication between the receiver and the QB.

Looks as if a frosh, Honohan, will be starting at LB on Saturday, probably for the concussed starter of the BC game Wonder what the attendance will be ? The large McGovern clan should help.

Eye test, Wade looked bettah Saturday...but obviously hard to judge in that type of game.
Hopefully they can solve this somewhat...I like our complement of RBs...and our WRs have looked good at times....defense looks improved (going off Colgate)...special teams have been solid. The makings are there for a decent team even this year imo.

Lafayette, Bucknell, Georgetown, and Fordham look woefully bad. Lehigh isn’t exactly a world beater, either. No reason we shouldn’t be a top three PL team — not like that’s saying much, though.

Your harping on the OC's resume is expectedly uninformed from you, so maybe try another angle. It's not about WHERE you coached, it's about HOW you coach, and yes- the play calling has been very suspect. But do yourself a solid a take a look at the Patriots coaches bios for example. Belichick has no problem making hires from schools such as the South Dakota School of Mines, but you'd wince at a coaching hire like that based on merely the level of FB. The PL isn't exactly the cream of the 1AA crop, and current 1AA assistants aren't likely banging down Ches' door with resumes in hand. Especially at the 11th hour.

Pack Fitton on Saturday and the team should respond. Yale won't be easy, but its not like we haven't been tested this year. I like Clifford starting at quarterback. Against Yale, we need Clifford's 2nd half performance of scrambling and throwing on the run against Colagte.

Playing either qb with a similar offensive gameplan as the first two games and it's going to be a long season.

Possibly...but it is a start! I would glad take a top 3 finish in the PL in Chesney's first season at the helm. Our respective finishes in the PL the past ten years: 2017 - Tied 3rd (3-3) 2016 - 5th (2-4) 2015 - 4th (3-3) 2014 - 5th (2-4) 2013 - 5th (1-4) 2012 - 5th (2-3) 2011 - Tied 2nd (4-2) 2010 - Tied 2nd (3-2) 2009 - 1st (5-1) Patriot League Champions 2008 - 2nd (5-1)

After watching the game against Colgate (online) and hearing about BC from people that went to the game, Clifford is off to a rough start as is the OC's play calling. It's been a tough schedule out of the gate, no doubt, but from the eyeball test I don't see Clifford playing at this level. The play calling has been unbelievably predictable. I don't know what to say regarding Wade. He's had some success in the past, but the jury is out on him as well. Where is Degenhardt in this mix. The kid was a 3* recruit. Honestly I'll admit, the star process in recruiting is overblown, but he was being recruited by some FBS schools. You're telling me he can't play at this level in this offense? The PL was ranked 10th in 1-AA....and Degenhardt can't play? I don't go to every practice, I get it, but the kid can throw. The greatest strength on this team is the talent and depth at WR and none of them are getting the ball. The RB's have looked pretty good so far, but if I were other teams I would play 8 in the box and dare them to beat me in the air.
Remember the hashtags - Spread and Shred em crap? Where is that? The game has evolved to more of a passing game. I get it - you need to be able to do both, but this RPO stuff on every play is insane. It's not RPO. It's RRO and the O part only means my option is to either hand it off or run. There is no P anymore. We have thrown for 179 yards TOTAL all year with an average of 4 yards per attempt. That might be the worst in the country. Our WR's are much better than that. We've had 6 first downs all year by the pass. There are offenses that get that in 2 series.
This has more than just an effect on this year's outcome. HC is graduating a number of seniors at WR. How can you attract speed recruits running and offense like this? This team needs more speed on O. Defense looks good now and years to come IMO.
I'll believe it when I see it and will be the first to indicate I was wrong if they go out and put up 30+ on Yale with a well balanced attack. But what I've seen so far hasn't been good, really on any level related to the play calling, the decisions made by the QB, and the lack of ability to get it into your playmakers hands.

Anyone think we may see a different offensive mindset (and possibly QB) vs Bucknell and our other PL opponents?

I guess Degenhardt is a bit slow-footed for the sort of offense Chesney seems to favor. (At the same time I have heard he has the pro-style stature and arm to really deliver the ball downfield)
RGS - I have absolutely no idea who our starting QB will be game 3. Not a good sign IMHO. (Part of it was that game 2 was unhelpful in making a QB decision going forward v our ordinary opponents)

The two-deep for the Yale game still shows Clifford as the starter and Wade as the backup.

It is readily apparent to anyone who has watched our first two games that Chesney's strategy is run first, pass second. It may simply be a difference in philosophy from the past regime or that our pass-happy offenses in the past have seen the pendulum swing the other way. From both games, rather obvious that both of our QB's have very limited passing ability so it's not a case of philosophy. They both telegraph their passes when they do throw.
Hopefully with continued reps they'll get a little better but for now looks like Chesney will try and run the clock with a ball control running game.
Gonna be tough to score for awhile and the D may be on the field more than Chesney would like.

Didn’t Wade put up some pretty solid passing numbers when he played in prior seasons? What has changed since then to make some think he cannot pass?

Comparing Murphy to your example of Patriots assistants is silly. Belichick makes some hires of guys from strange places into low-level non-coaching positions ("slappy" was the term used in the great Belichick Browns documentary) and then teaches & grooms them until they are ready to be in a coaching position. The guy you are referring to (and common sports radio punching bag topic after there is a bad stretch for the Pats secondary) is Josh Boyer, who served 3 years in a "Coaching Assistant" slappy role for Belichick before he was promoted to a coaching position. Now contrast that with Murphy who is not in a slappy position, but rather the Offensive Coordinator and play caller.

Yale is loaded and the Ivy favorite for a reason. RB Dudek will be very tough to stop. Will have to stop their running game somehow and hope their qb makes some mistakes in the passing game. We will have to play error-free football to win this one. I'm looking for continued progress and keeping my fingers crossed.

BBC, Belichick's job interview for a coaching position consists of sitting down with the candidate for much of a day, with Belichick pulling out game film, and play-by-play, he quizzes the candidate about the play (/ defense) that should be called. Its the great situational football interview test.. _________________________________ Barriers to HC having success with the spread 'em / shred 'em scheme are:
1.) none of the three QBs was recruited to run a run pass option offense, so its not in their particular skill set. Clifford is from the same HS as PP, and PP was recruited to be the second coming of Randolph; these are 'conventional' passers, and were schooled and recruited as such.
2.) Clifford, who looks to be the most mobile of the three, does not have the size, athleticism, or speed to be seen as a credible run threat by a Div I defense. Tebow at Univ of Florida played at 6'3" 255 pounds, and as reported from the combine: "Tebow proved that he was at least an option at a non–QB position with an incredible vert, good 40 and broad jumps, and great shuttle times." (Tebow plays for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies these days: I only included mentioned the last because the team nickname is a bit fascinating.) As someone posted supra, if you are keen on the run pass option, move Blaise Bell back to QB.

As someone posted supra, if you are keen on the run pass option, move Blaise Bell back to QB. A true and successful RPO offense requires a good RB, a very good OL, multiple good WR's ( not necessarily a good TE ) and obviously a QB who can run as well as pass with equal talent. It also is run up tempo with no huddle. Wake has become unusually good at it since employing same half way thru last season. Two weeks ago they ran off a crazy 94 plays in roughly 25 minutes of possession time.
HC doesn't run a true RPO....don't have the personnel right now for it. Don't know if Chesney wants to recruit for it down the road but it is lethal and really gets opposing defenses gassed as substitution is near impossible.

With the Ring of Honor Ceremony coupled with the home opener, I'd say about 16,500. Weather could reduce that substantially.

With the Ring of Honor Ceremony coupled with the home opener, I'd say about 16,500. Weather could reduce that substantially. If we bring in 16,500, I will donate this Friday's entire pay-check to the football program. SOV number of around 10,000 more likely -- and that's not a bad number considering almost everyone who even cares a little bit about Crusader football came out for last week's game. I'll be at a bachelor in Rockport for a classmate so we're already down to 16,499....
