.... and yet this has not resulted in improved rankings in Sagarin yet for the Ivy teams. We checked HYP over a period of many years and reported the results in another thread-no discernible improvement in rankings to speak of

These are the games that try HC fans' souls. As has been posted, Dartmouth has bigger, stronger, faster, more experienced and better players than HC. On a side note I noticed that Wade unfortunately does telegraph his passes. It is a tough habit to break as it involves more than physical ability but instead requires experience and a type of poise and self confidence to look off a defender and quickly pass the ball to the receiver. It is a very basic skill that you can be sure our coaches are well aware of and have worked on with Wade. I hope that he will do better in future games as he gains more experience. Time to circle the wagons and support our team - players and coaches alike. Hopefully, our next game will be a confidence building big win. Onto Bucknell! LoveHC both players and coaches can learn from this game. the glass is half full! GO 'SADERS!

Fellas, we were an extra point away last year from beating Dartmouth.
Let's not act like these guys are Penn State.
Yes, I think they are better than we are at this juncture and have more talented players. However, they are not 34-0 and 20-something first downs to 0 midway through the 4th quarter better.

The Ivies in general probably haven't been this good/talented overall (respective to other D1 programs) since maybe the early 1970s. They have really ramped up their recruiting the last 5 or so years and are very deep with FBS-type quality at some positions. I saw scouts from Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Patriots at the game today on the sidelines. There was probably more than that

No, but they probably had better personnel than we do this year at every position save PK.
We are a very young team in general this year with a new coaching staff....games like this are going to happen when that's the case.
If anybody really had this team bettah than 1-3 at this point, given who we've played, they are delusional imo.

Granted we gave Dartmouth a much better game last year and could have, should have beaten them.... But consider what has changed since last year....
1.) We lost a lot more talent through graduation than they did. 2.) Go look at their O and D lines. Their O lineman were mostly if not all seniors and in the 300+ lb range. Same on D. 3.) Most of the time Dartmouth had 9 players on D within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage! 4.) Our players are too often reacting to stuff that is happening. 5.) Wade spends too much time looking at and locking in on the receiver he is going to throw to which allows a good defender to make a play. 6.) Overall we are inexperienced as a team and cannot afford injuries.
Many recruits at the game today. Saw one big kid who was talking and with our coaches and when Dartmouth went off the field before the start of the game, the Dartmouth coaches stopped shook hands with him also!
BC should fall from the top 25 after getting whacked at Purdue 30 -13!

I don't like all the horizontal play calling early in games either, but '87 seems to be the voice of reason here to me. And there's still plenty of time to build some momentum this season. One other thing I didn't understand was the rotating of the punters. Wilkinson seemed to be kicking ok; not sure why they went to Ng a couple of times.

I was one who thought we'd be better than 1-3 and hoped we'd be 2-2. My reaction to Fitton's predictions pre-season.
Colgate L- we never win in Hamilton and they won't be sleeping. (Picked correctly and pleased we made it close)
BC L - it'll be closer than many expect but not enough horses yet to pull an upset. (Swing and a big miss on this one!)
Yale W - toss up but giving us the edge FINALLY playing them at our place! (Felt like a genius with this pick)
Dartmouth W- totally agree we should have won last year. (The most disappointing game of the year so far)
Bucknell W- if we haven't won again games by then and don't win this one, uh-oh, VERY bad season
NH L- too much incentive for the nationally ranked Wildcats for major payback.
Harvard L - a close one, perhaps, but still a loss.
Lehigh L - the league leaders. If some of my predicted losses are wins, we could pull off an upset but not mortgaging the house on that kind of outcome
Lafayette W- will start a winning streak to end the season on a positive note
Fordham W- agree that Rams best is in their rearview mirror.
Georgetown W- Only way we lose this is to overconfidence and don't think Chesney will let that happen.
So, 6-5 record, again, depending on an upset either way.

The Ivies have learned how to sell players on attending one of the 8 best schools in America and play football at a high level is a winning combination. Of course the financial aide packages they offer are a help also

If Coach Chesney is astute, he will be looking for a QB currently playing at a FBS level program looking to transfer and will be eligible for the 2019 season. Bingo

Another way to look at it: about a third of the team was in high school last year, and they have played 1) a FBS team ranked in the top 25 (though not for long), 2) the preseason pick for PL champ, 3) the preseason Ivy pick, and 4) a top tier Ivy team. I understand we are living in an age of immediate gratification/results, but, I don't know, seems like we might want to see how they bounce back next week before getting too carried away.

Look at how the PL got beat today, the league stinks. Not sure what the league expects. Give schollies but not the full compliment. Allow redshirting but not non-medical. Have academic restrictions as tough or to tougher than the Ivy League. I’ve said it many times - in for a penny, in for a pound. No half measures will work. I’d love to see HC be part of a CAA reshuffle (north division) or drum up a new league. Maine UNH HC Villanova Fordham or Delaware Stony Brook Rhode Island Albany A real North East take-the-bus smash mouth League. That’s the conference HC belongs in. Full schollie, redshirting, no AI, solid FCS football. OOC schedule: BC or Army UMass or UConn Any PL school 2 CAA south schools No more Ivies. Let’s move on. Move on.

Defense was awful (until Dartmouth called off the dogs midway thru the 3rd quarter up 27-0). Probably more a talent than a scheme issue. As far as QB’s go, Pujals was definitely an above average PL QB. Clifford and Wade are middling (at best) PL QB’s. No real speed and no particular arm strength or touch for either of them. No speed at RB today. There are some folks who immediately attribute any improvement on the field to an opponent "calling off the dogs." That is oversimplification. One thing these coaches know is how to make in-game adjustments. That can also account for the improvement in play as a game progresses. Did Colgate "call off the dogs" in the second half? Did Yale? If one wants a simple answer, then we could say the veteran team showed its experience and superior defensive backs. But I did not see anyone "call off the dogs."

Look at how the PL got beat today, the league stinks. Just reviewed the results so far for the PL. out of conference record is 4-19. I don't see HC going anywhere in terms of conference affiliation so our best bet is to do whatever we can to help this league get better. (I know, one can argue it can't get worse). I personally like the mix of the HYD and sometimes Brown, and the 1-2 games a year against BCS opponents from the Northeast/East, the PL allows for.

At what point did the Dartmouth coaches tell their players to stop trying? This "call off the dogs" argument only serves to insult the efforts of our team and makes it appear that Dartmouth was not very deep in talent. BTW, I did watch the game (tough as it was in the first half) and it was not clear that Dartmouth "called off the dogs." Do I count as "anyone?

The depth on top tier Ivy teams is impressive. They basically have unlimited scholarships, oh I'm sorry 'Financial Aid'. Football wise...It's a shame because all this talent plays a 10 game schedule and then goes home. Tough to turn down a free ride, oops I meant 'financial aid package', to HYP or Dartmouth.
HC will be fine. There is very little upper class talent on the team. Might get worse next year before it gets better.

I know our woeful offense successfully (albeit unintentionally) obscured our poor defensive play - or at least to a few posters. I do note this:
Dartmouth had the ball six and only six times in the first half. Two of those times they drove and missed very short field goals, two of those times they drove and made field goals, and the final two times they drove and scored touchdowns. No punts and no turnovers.
