It was nice to hear Rivers' and HCs name mentioned on the telecast. Don't think I've seen 2 qbs go down within a couple plays of each other like that in any ballgame at any level. Currently watching another Holy Cross commit (Dante Bolden - LB) who is playing for Springfield Central in their Super Bowl matchup vs. Duxbury. Bolden is a thumper who is not afraid to lay the wood on opposing ball carriers.

Are we looking at any kids in the CM-SJP game?

I did not know that he is one of our commits! Very excited to hear that and yes he is a THUMPER!!! !

Are we looking at any kids in the CM-SJP game? This was a tough game. The guy who stood out was SJ's # 20 Matthew Duchemin! Two interecptions (almost 3) and I believe had 2 TD receptions. Anyone know where he is headed?

It's funny....was thinking very much the same with regards to #20 particularly.
I know there's a bit of an aversion here to recruiting Mass. kids (mostly in good fun) but we should be getting a couple kids a year at least from the Catholic Conference.

No aversion at all to recruiting Mass. kids--it's just harder to find qualified football players there than in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, and most other states.

I'm not saying we don't recruit locally...we do...but I think there was somewhat of an aversion to do so in a prior regime for reasons I am not privy to.
There are good players in this neck of the woods to play at the FCS-level most years...not saying we should recruit a kid because he lives in Mansfield, MA instead of Mansfield, OH...but we should try to get the best kids we can in this area for a variety of reasons.

I am confident that Coach Chesney and his staff have the ability to identify recruits who have the skill set to excel in their particular system, whether they play in Mass. or some other state. Some of the variables to all of include identifying a player who shares an interest in playing for Holy Cross and also has the academic ability that is required.

The Springfield team was quite impressive...a level of speed is unheard of in these parts. They have no competition in their part of the state and as a group have been placed in a lower division.

Currently the State with the highest number of Holy Cross verbal commits (4) in the 2020 recruit class is ... Massachusetts! (11 Massachusetts offers -- 4 commitments, 6 have committed to other schools, 1 still has not committed.)

NJ, Penn, Ohio, Calif, Texas, Fl and anywhere else HC can find good talent. Obviously there is some talent all around the states. Sorry, Mass, NY, Conn, etc don't make it to my top tier. Sure some great players occasionally have come from these states - Jim Brown, NY; Floyd Little, Conn., Flutie, Mass. But, these 3 states have not been a hotbed of great talent. Gotta' fish where the fish are. LoveHC Historically, many HC football greats come from this neck of the woods from Bullet Bill Osmanski to Cozier this year. Again, just think it's important to have somewhat of a local connection for a variety of reasons.

I don't think its wise to simply punt your back yard because of a lesser concentration of football talent per capita. You want the star players in the Boston area and certainly Greater Worcester and Central Mass automatically thinking about Holy Cross as a possible destination as soon as they start the recruiting process -- even guys you know by junior year will be fielding calls from the UCONN/UMASS contingent, service academies, MAC schools, etc. During my years, HC seemed to have a lot of success in Ohio/Northern Kentucky, Northern Virginia, Arizona, South Jersey and Florida. Back then a couple of notable New England-area guys were Mike Kielt who was Mr. Football in Connecticut as a senior after leading Southbury Pomperaug to a state title & Brett McDermott, who was the star player in the "Super Bowl" / state chip for Mansfield (MA). Can't recall if he won Mr. Football in MA. I think Matt Bellomo, a couple years below me out of Holliston won this award. More recently, the Chicago area has become a solid hotbed for us with Pujals and Kennedy plus someone on this year's team that I'm forgetting all coming from Loyola HS. Casey Gough and Josh Jenkins, both solid players under TG, were Chicago-area guys. The one area HC seems to have limited luck is CA. Unless I'm forgetting someone, the majority of our recruits from out there never seem to wind up as more than role players, if they even survive their first year living in Worcester.

Anyone out there have any intel or names on who might be on campus this weekend beyond the verbal commits they have already? Schon and Kane said they will be there via Twitter. Looking for new names to look out for over the next 11 days before Signing Day. I am told that 2020 commits Phoenix Dickson (LB - Michigan) and Joe Rivers (OLB/SS - Mass.) are scheduled to be on campus this weekend for their official visits. I would imagine they will be joined by several other verbal commits and other recruiting targets as this is the final weekend before the early signing day on Wednesday, December 18th.

I'm puzzled by the idea of making one's official visit after making the verbal commitment. I always thought that the student-athlete would make his official visits to several schools then decide which offer to accept.

It's certainly possible that a recruit can make several official visits and then decide on his commitment, but it is also possible (and from my limited observation seemingly becoming more common especially at the FCS level) that a recruit will make a commitment decision based on a coach's visit or an unofficial visit to the school before his high school senior season and then make his official visit after his high school season ends.
There is no "one size fits all" here.

There is no "one size fits all" here. I think official visits are also viewed as an opportunity to introduce incoming recruits to their future teammates and their fellow recruits in a more structured setting with the focus being in them as opposed to more heavily attended recruiting events where the numbers simply don’t allow that kind of interaction.

Per this article, football recruits can take official visits between April & June of their Junior year. www.nsr-inc.com/scouting-news/new-d-i-recruiting-rules/However, unless rules have changed, I believe they are still limited to 5 official visits. At that point in their Junior year, I would imagine that most (if not all) of the top priority priority recruits who we would want to have on official visits are likely still waiting on higher level offers and hesitant to use up one of their five officials.

2020 Mass. commits Bryan Pacific (OL/DL) and Joe Rivers (OLB/SS) each recently received some post-season accolades. Bryan was an All-NEPSAC Honorable Mention selection and Joe was selected as a Salem News North Shore Football All-Star. Joe has also been selected to the Boston Herald All-Scholastic Football Team which will be published shortly. Congrats to both!
