Hopefully the guys can get an early practice then watch a football win Last I knew the Hart court was closed with construction tape. I think everybody will be restricted to the Blaney court for a while. Although, based on the .gif, it looks like Jacob is planning on practicing on the balcony of the lobby

The Hart Court is open. The Volleyball team played against Colgate last Friday on the Hart Court with the updated shield replacing Iggy on top of the outline of Massachusetts. Watch "Colgate at Holy Cross" on @watchstadium watchstadium.com/videos/146232

It’s really unfortunate, but this is the first time I can ever remember not being very excited for the season to begin. Feels like all of the juice has been sucked out of the program.
I, of course, would love nothing more than to be proven wrong.

Even if we didn't have reasons 1,2,4,5 that hchoops's lists above, Austin Butler alone is reason enough for me to get excited about this team

Four straight years of sub .500 basketball wears on me, I suppose.
As do the shenanigans the past two years with scholarship players being removed from the program.

Still optimistic. Ordinarily make or break season for a coach, but he could have more time given the relative youth of the team. Hoping this is the year.

It's the fourth year of Carmody's five-year contract, typically the point at which it would be extended - or not. All the interesting individual player stories aside, a mediocre team performance will make the subject of an extension an interesting topic for debate.

Nothing wrong with a little cautious optimism.

The fact that we have not read that Nate has extended Carmody's contract even for a year leads me to believe, and I have absolutely no inside knowledge, that Carmody has decided that he'll run his contract out and then retire. The long bus trips can't be fun for him, win or lose. And, yes, it's been mostly losing. Perhaps there is a mutual agreement between the HC and the AD that is how his tenure will end. Hopefully Nate has already started looking for a successor for a smoother transition than we've had over the last decade or so.

Maybe, but I expect Carmody to be the HC coach for the next five years

Of course, it "could." But we have seen in the past at Holy Cross and many other places that contracts are frequently extended before the old one runs out with a year or 2 to still go with the thinking that everyone, including possible recruits, can see the continuity of the head coach position. I guess technically, that would be a new contract, not an extension of an existing one if they would wait until the old one expires.
Carmody, IMHO, is not getting any younger. He will turn 67 in December. Think he wants to work for an additional 5 years into his 70's?I've only spoken to him perhaps 3-4 times but have watched him at almost every game in person or TV/internet. He doesn't look like he is having fun or getting much satisfaction from his time on the hill. Of course, he could be ecstatic on the inside and just doesn't show it.
I will admit that this speculation is possibly 180 degrees off . . . . but I don't think so. If this year's team doesn't contend and at least reach the PL finals and play much better than .500 ball, after all the player issues we've had, I think a parting of the ways would be in order. While I hope that doesn't happen, that's my reading of the tea leaves.

Of course, he could be ecstatic on the inside and just doesn't show it. That internal excitement would, from what I have seen of the coach, be entirely consistent with his personality. Also, those involved in the "shenanigans" of the past were removed from the team in the middle of last season. Why would hat still be an issue this year? ...next year? Te coach is here as are some very talented players. I was excited last season and I am even more so this year. With some very good seniors and the play of JF along with the improvement of our very good sophomores, I see immediate improvement - certainly against our doc opponents. Time will tell.

It’s really unfortunate, but this is the first time I can ever remember not being very excited for the season to begin. Feels like all of the juice has been sucked out of the program. I, of course, would love nothing more than to be proven wrong. Last year the team went to the league semi-finals for the 3rd time in 8 years. Not exactly impressive, but better than the quarter-final bounce that has been far too common. Only one guy from that team is not here - and he wasn't around for the final third of the season. (semi off topic - but I expected a much better on the court season than we had from Karl last year). This has to be better than last and it will be a major disappointment if it isn't a better year. I anticipate this team will realistically challenge for the conference championship. They haven't done that since Coach Willard left town. I thought they would in 2009-10 and again in 2014-15, but I was wrong. I know you don't have a lot of faith in this coaching staff, but I just don't see the major disappointments of 2010 and 2015 being repeated here. I am confident that this season will be a step forward. It remains to be seen if it's a giant step or a baby step forward

5 - which one of the freshman was considered "highly regarded". Where were others from for that player to consider him highly regarded? Honestly don't know.

While I hope that doesn't happen, that's my reading of the tea leaves. Former player Bob Foley '63 probably has ten years on Coach Carmody and is coaching at my old high school. There have been whispers about him hanging it up because of his age. He rarely looks to happy on the sidelines either. However from those that know him well, he absolutely loves the game and working with the kids. It's bold to assume that because I guy is old or doesn't seem happy on the sidelines that he's thinking of retirement.

Marlon Hargis according to Verbal Commits, he had offers from American, Lafayette and Colgate The offer from Colgate was three years old, and the offer from Lafayette was two years old - neither could be considered remotely viable at the time Hargis committed here. The offer from American was a year old at that point, and according to poster NJJ, AU wasn't pursuing him during his senior year.
That said, offers aren't everything, and I hope he has a great career here.
