Interesting to see Iona ranked below other MAAC schools (such as Canisius and Siena). I believe the Gaels are a more talented team and hope to travel to New Rochelle to see HC play in person on Dec 30.

Pomeroy has them at #215, which seems about right. True, they are 2-8 with their only two wins being against bad teams. ;But they have played a generally tough schedule, currently ranked #118 in SOS.

KenPom has Iona with the #161 offense and #290 defense and the #215 team.

Steadily creeping up the rankings!!! I wonder when the last time HC was as high as 139? In 2013-14, HC got as high as #107 in the Pomeroy rankings in early December. Surely were higher than 139 in Massey as well. Then lost five of six - losing to Canisius, Hartford, Michigan, Boston U, and American, all by double figures. Got as low as #187 before rebounding to finish at #158.

We have basically taken care of business when we should have. We lost to four pretty good teams. If we can beat Iona on the road, we’ll be in good shape heading into PL play with a good chance to finish the regular season with more than 20 wins and maybe get a non-16 seed when we make it to the Dance.

Today (12/24) Massey ranks HC at #137. A nice gift for Christmas. He has Bucknell (5-6) at #142 He ranks Iona (208) at #282. Loyola MD (4-8) comes in at #304.

FWIW Sports Reference has us as #101

FWIW Sports Reference has us as #101 What Sports Reference shows is not a ranking. It merely shows where a school stacks up based solely on W-L pct. A couple of schools in their top ten are Toledo and North Texas, who both have played really bad schedules and have great W-L pcts.

We only have two games left against a team currently ahead of us. Of course these rankings can and will change. Let's hope we only have two more games or less against a team ranked higher than us by Massey.

Let's hope we only have two more games or less against a team ranked higher than us by Massey. The more reliable Pomeroy ranking has Colgate ahead of us as well as Lehigh. (Though I believe that Bucknell is the strongest team to this point) That would mean 4 games vs teams ranked higher.

How do you know it is more reliable (since these formulas are relatively arbitrary in all systems)? I agree about Bucknell being the strongest in the PL at this point. From the complied ranks (30) it seems that most agree with that estimate.

Isn’t Pomeroy included in Massey’s poll of polls?
If so, management studies have shown that the decisions made by a collective group of individuals is almost always superior to the best individual within that group.

The most significant ranking for the NCAA tourney is their new NET. That has Lehigh at 131, Colgate at 136, HC at 155 and Bucknell at 203. I would be very surprised if that is the final standing.

Agree. In fact, that’s really the only one that “counts” now.
But my original point remains. IF Pomeroy is included in Massey’s poll, and I don’t have the time to check that, then Massey’s is probably “more correct” or “more accurate.” Note how I put this in quotes because we know on any given day, the ball can drop in or bounce off the rim or take a flukey bounce, a key player sprains an ankle or gets the flu, and why they play the games.

If so, management studies have shown that the decisions made by a collective group of individuals is almost always superior to the best individual within that group. Pomeroy is included. But this would be the exception that proves the rule - since the studies you cite assume the individuals all are knowledgeable and have an equal amount of information. In this case, Pomeroy does a lot more research and is a lot more credible than most of the rankings in Massey's collective group. A number of them are simply subjective rankings, many times done by people who do little or no research. If you look closely at the rankings, you'll find a few that will make you laugh they are so bad.

Things are pretty tight at the top of the Patriot League so far with the top four teams ranked 130-155 in Massey and 143-161 in KenPom. Contrast that with last year (at end of OOC play) in KenPom when Bucknell was heads above the next three: Bucknell #100 (finished #97), Army #160 (finished #264 after an epic collapse), Colgate #192 (finished #202), and Navy #193 (finished # 225).

Not inconsistent with many board predictions that this year would be a real battle for the top spots with no dominant team

Have seen only Bucknell and HC Bucknell could threaten to be dominant.

I can remember some great HC/Bucknell matchups under RW. I hope this year's games are as exciting (and also in front of packed houses).
