And looking at the job of the HC defense: 02 E.J. Crawford G/F (Jr 6'6" 210) 16 ppg / 5 rpg / held to 11 pts and 3 rebounds - Crawford is considered their top man10 Andrija Ristanovic F (RS Fr 6'11" 215) 4 ppg / 2 rpg / held to 3 pts and 1 rebound01 Asaiah Still G/F (Jr 6'7" 195) 9 ppg / 4 rpg / held to 8 pts and 2 reb05 Ben Perez G (Jr 6'4" 180) 7 ppg / 2 rpg / held to 2 pts and 0 rebHC wanted to stop Iona's 3 pt shooting. They averaged 26 3 pt shots per game. Iona was held to only 18 3 pt shots, hitting only 5 (28%). Iona planned to stop Grandy as their #1 goal Grandison 16 mpg / 5 rpg / "held" to 25 pts and 9 rebIona's center Tajuan Agee had a good game with 18 points and 12 rebounds and, instead of fouling out in 25 minutes as is his custom, played 36 minutes with only 3 PF's.

RIC an exhibition. Believe it was Bob Walsh coaching at the time. Given the date, you are probably right, but they shouldn't count 'exhibitions' in the W-L tabulations. I was looking at KenPom. They don't list RIC. Definitely an exhibition.

Grandy’s line of 25(8-12, 4-5, 5-5), 9, 8 is the closest I can remember to a Chris Potter line since Chris Potter. The 8 assist stat is what makes the line so rare among many fine Crusaders who have played in the 40 years since Chris. Can anyone think of a similar performance in those 40 years ?

I cannot claim detailed knowledge of individual stats, so I'll pass on that. I just wanted say it was certainly a most impressive stat line (with Iona focusing their defense on him) and I believe he is certain good company for Chris Potter - one of HC's all-time greats.

In terms of on court demeanor, JG and AB remind me of that duo from the 70s.

The closest I found was a Karl Charles game his freshman year, but it did not equal Grandy’s or Potter’s.

Jimmy McCaffrey had his infamous 46/15 game against Iona...not sure if he had any steals that night.

It was 15 assists. Have no idea on the other stats, but the 46/15 has always stuck in my mind. I believe he was SI's player of the week.

And the Iona coach was Pat Kennedy, father of HC's assistant Joe..... Who was at our Iona game with about 40 friends and relatives. Had his picture taken with his new grandson after the game at half court

Pat Kennedy had some really good teams at Iona. Grew up rooting against them with my dad the Fordham alum. He was 124-60 as head coach at Iona.

I had not noticed it previously, but this year is former RW assistant at HC, Eric Eaton’s second season as an assistant at Iona. Before the Gaels, he was at Q for 10 years.

Watching the highlight reel, not a lot of Iona D being played Yes, very little defense. Iona is 303rd this year in defensive efficiency. Even their good teams under Cluess have played mediocre (or worse) defense, but have won at the offensive end. That is not going to happen this year. The last time Iona played good defense was when kevin Willard was there.

According to the 2018-19 HC Basketball Fact Book, the first game of the season was against Hofstra, and the team's OOC record prior to the start of PL play was 9-4. (They finished at 15-14 - ouch.) A lot of injuries piled up as the year wore on, iirc. ...they finished 8th (last) in the PL. In the tournament they had first place American on the ropes, but blew the game in the final minute or thereabouts.
