Keep the coach and get rid of the people in admissions...Get a broader pool of athletes who can compete at a higher level...That small pool of recruit-able students makes getting those prime time players sooo much tougher... I'd be curious to see how many players from other PL teams could get in to HC..... Yes, let’s open up to a broader pool of athletes so we can bring in more guys like Jehyve Floyd who can be totally under utilized by Carmody. That’s the answer!

We are suffering from woe is me syndrome-nobody likes losing so we take our ball and go home and point fingers Coaches probably are failing in their role, but they do know the game and at some point we are going to need to trust that people can do their job-we can’t change every five minutes when we don’t get the desired outcome. We are all disappointed, frustrated and more, but patience is required until this sophomore class finishes I haven’t heard anybody describe or identify the root problem, which to me means we are responding to the symptoms. I don’t believe the current staff has delivered, BUT, had this team started 6-7 or 7-6 as forecasted by most on this board, this group is not too far off track. They had a nice start and expectations by me and many others increased. Perhaps most of us were closer to right back in October and the tease of early successes blinded all to the weakness of the roster and the refusal of the staff to adjust and maybe even scrap the style of play to fit the talent. Give me me three things that must be done to fix the program and then find a way to impact Change. A change in coaching might be one, but I don’t believe it to be one of the three necessary changes.

Interesting thinking about possible replacements.
Probably to early but we need a change.

Mo Cassara returned to Worcester Monday night and it was evident how happy he was to be here. Before doing color analysis of the Holy Cross men’s basketball game for CBS Sports Network, Cassara caught up with many old friends while extolling the recent renovations and ongoing expansion of the Hart Center and smiling when he spoke about his visit earlier in the day to Worcester Academy. “I joke with my wife,” said Cassara, who grew up in Canton, New York, and now lives on Long Island, “When I get here, I text her, ‘I’m home,’ and she knows what I mean. It truly is like coming home.”

All great points about the symptoms but what fundamentals need to be changed so whatever change(s) take place are sustainable and promote a winning and successful program over the next 10-20 years.
If we just change coaches and improve the schedule we haven’t fixed the major problem
Change the makeup of the board to one that values the contribution of athletics to the school identity-create a strong athletics committee with COB and President as co-chairs
Hire a strong and aggressive AD that will promote the school and all of the athletic programs on campus as well as regionally(East and Midwest)
Require the Admissions process to uphold the standards but appreciate the need to have strong athletic programs to deliver a more complete student body
When this is in place find the right staff and improve the quality of the OOC schedule.

Mo Cassara would be a terrible hire.

Mo Cassara would be a terrible hire. You don't know that. Your guessing. But who would you like to hire? It's is a tough decision.
I would say this even if Carmody wins the PL this year which is highly unlikely. But we have seen that movie before. Without NCAA tournament success the school should look to move on.

He's not guessing. If HC did a search they likely couldn't find a worse candidate than Cassara. Fired after a 7-25 season in which SIX of his players were arrested for various crimes.

Those are also changes that will take quite a bit of time (if not forever) to implement, so it would not be wise to wait for them to be in place before replacing Carmody - a horrible fit for what we need our basketball coach to be right now.

I have been a season ticket holder at Hofstra for 13 years and personally witnessed how Mo Cassara totally destroyed a winning program by bringing in a bunch of “bad guys” most of whom were arrested and thrown out of school. It’s taken almost 7 years to get the program back on its feet.
By the way, the lack of student support at HC is also present at Hofstra. Even though they have the longest college winning streak in the country and a student body of over 10,000, at many games there are less that 50 students in attendance. Unless you are in the power conferences the students simply are not interested.

There’s a reason Mo Cassara not only hasn’t gotten another coaching job since he was fired at Hofstra, but probably hasn’t even been granted an interview, either.
You may like him because of his time at Clark or Woo Academy, but he’s not a good coach and would be a terrible hire. End.

I love how many think a coaching change is the panacea for HC's hoops woes...it's almost cute in its simplicity.

For those who understand the real world, the answer is obviously the need to get out of the lowly Patriot League which is holding Holy Cross back from winning a national championship in basketball.
If only people would listen!

If HC is willing to pay well, a great coaching staff is a few phone calls away. After that please make our arena look like an arena (see Bucknell, Navy, and others) and not a gym, so that when recruits visit or watch on their phones they understand we play D1 basketball. That would be a good start.
In the larger picture please find an AD who HC can cut loose to edit the men’s and women’s sports to a level more appropriate for a small school, and make a game plan for exiting the PL in all sports. How many more decades can we keep relying on the same impossibly flawed formula?
Can’t do this? Fine. Go D3 - no shame in that.

How about starting by changing the damn thread name? Keep all the complaints and comments but I don't think it serves anyone if a recruit or his parents stumble in here and see "CARMODY MUST GO" in plain sight.

Agree that this is an inappropriate thread title. I don't think it's easy (possible?) to change a thread title, and having the Dean do it puts us on a slippery slope. I give recruits and their significant others more credit - they understand that fan boards go a little nutty sometimes.
On the thread subject . . . I suspect many of us are willing to wait until the season plays out before reaching any final conclusions about the coaching staff.

Agree about the staff conversation, and actually winning games a few games in the next week will slow or suspend the conversation. The underlying issues should be addressed first, although that might require divine intervention.

I have come to the conclusion that Holy Cross stinks at all sports. And I think the lack of attendance at all major sports team games shows the lack of interest. The BoT need to make MAJOR changes to Athletics. We are on life support.......

I'm not sure that it's inappropriate. So long as the discussion remains civil and isn't attacking coaches or players on a personal level (I don't think saying "Carmody MUST GO!" for the poor results over the course of four seasons is a personal attach), then I think we go down a dangerous slope if we start deleting and locking threads of this nature. Dean Wormer has clearly stated at the top of the message board: "CROSSPORTS and the Message Board are not affiliated with The College of the Holy Cross but run by its fans. It's a message board where fans are afforded the opportunity to express their opinions. One poster's opinion is that "Carmody MUST GO!"

Since Carmody was not fired on the 23rd, and I'm guessing he did get a ride back to Worcester the same night could we please delete this inflammatory topic which really serves no purpose

But even he struggled at the end of his tenure.

Note how few comments there are on positive developments such as HC being named #3 value LAC in Money Magazine or HC's new athletic facilities being showcased in USA Today. All you can say on those is "Great" or "That's nice" whereas one can go on for paragraphs when providing (constructive sometimes) criticism about players, coaches, facilities, refreshment stands, etc. Hopefully prospective players or parents recognize that every message board has many negative threads. I recall visiting the Notre Dame board where one poster said the school's teams would do better "if the administration would only provide some support to athletics". That poster likely believed that his school did not support athletics despite all evidence to the contrary.

One of the inherent aspects in being a college coach is being the recipient of public criticism. Perhaps that’s one reason they get paid a lot more than say, a college professor.
Along with professional athletes, their tenure in a position is high risk-high rewards and always subject to sudden termination.
Carmody is a big boy and while no one likes receiving criticism that isn’t positive, I am sure he understands it goes with the territory.
If a high school athlete doesn’t also understand that, it is time they learned.
