Another disappointing result. I feel sorry for our guys. I believe the effort is there, but the offensive and defensive schemes are not. I suspect they are frustrated. They have all played basketball for a dozen years or more. They have been well coached in high school and AAU. They know how the game should be played. They know that rebounding is an important aspect to the game. Yet at HC it is an afterthought. Must be a real "head shaker" for the guys. Hang in there fellas. This, too, shall pass. Love HC

Don't think we would have won with Faw getting his usual minutes, but in fairness, his absence was felt. Really need to get him back soon, or we might be headed towards the pig-pen come PLT time. Might be headed there anyway.

HC a lowly 56% DR, 9% OR. BU EFG, 63%. Can't expect to be successful if defense and rebounding are afterthoughts. Don't forget the lack of ability to get to the foul line. Butler got there quite often. I think Grandison was the only other player to get there.

I was surprised to hear the announcer say that HC was the worst FT shooting team in the PL

Don't forget the lack of ability to get to the foul line. That's been true of Carmody's teams for the last twenty years. It's not malevolent zebras - it's the system.

I was surprised to hear the announcer say that HC was the worst FT shooting team in the PL This is the advantage of never getting to the line - you never have to be reminded that we don't shoot them well.
Obviously, Floyd's ineptness there (46%) weighs down the average heavily.

This program needs to take a step back and do some searching for a new coach. Start now and look for a former player. Memphis Penny St Johns Mullin Georgetown Ewing All three are leading successful programs. I think the NY press would disagree with you on Mullin. Rumors are that without a strong finish he may be gone.

I feel bad for everyone on the team. We are not in a good place right now. We’re in a deep rut and I don’t see how we’re going to get out of it. It seems that significant change is needed as soon as possible.

We don't need a former player. We need a coach that is going to be a strong recruiter, establish a strong culture within the program (not a laissez-faire, "I've never had a captain" nonsense), develop players, and making sure the sum is greater than the parts. I wonder if Carmody has ever heard of the Circle of Opportunity?

Speaking of the "non-captains" . . . Maybe it's time for Benzan to call a players-only meeting again like he did last year after the Navy debacle. That likely salvaged a respectable finish then, could help again.

Getting out rebounded by a team not seen as superior to ours, is a total embarrassent. I said recently I thought the 4 games against BU as in Boston U, and AU would go a long way in determining to how we look upon the season. I feel now they will determine whether or not we finish above .500.

Need one ball for Butler, and one for the other four guys on the floor. AB scored 22 points tonight and added 3 steals and 2 assists with 0 turnovers. Some objective observers would suggest he played well. However, you must stick with your narrative that he's a deficit.

We are lucky to have him on the team and on the floor Might not have the most talent on the roster, but at this point in the season I am not sure anybody else delivers at his rate-forget the stats and look at the clock and score when he makes plays

Even I know that AB is NOT the reason the team is struggling. It would have been much uglier out their tonight with him absent. The players seem to be doing what they can to try to win.

BU had three wings who combined for 42 points on 62% shooting with ORatings of 130, 181, 182. And a chunk of those points came when he was hunting for points in garbage time. I’m not sure any of the Butler pompom wavers are actually “objective observers.” Look no further than those posts for pushing a narrative.

Suffice it to say that many of us are disappointed with how this season is turning out. After Carmody first team ran through the PL tournament after a lousy regular season, some thought that was a turnaround and we would continue successfully the next season. Turned out to be fool's gold. Last year, many of us figured that we had a freshmen-loaded roster not helped by the loss of some of our most experienced players, so we rationalized that the losses were understandable. This season, with Jehyve's upward trajectory and the return of so many experienced sophomores, it looked like we had the best of both worlds - both young and experienced. The OOC season went better than many expected and JF excelled and the sophomores appeared to be living up to their potential. Then Connor got hurt and as important as he was to the team, he wasn't a starter. Now Matt is hurt. The freshmen are either not good enough or Carmody has little confidence in them. The OOC results now appear to have been a mirage. The lack of rebounding seems to easily negate the positives of a high assist ratio. It certainly appears that the players are playing as hard as ever but without achieving the results we all want. We have now reached the point that we are not only not beating or playing closely against teams perceived as better but we are now losing against teams that we have been favored to win. Just a major disappointment and the likelihood is that things aren't going to get any better anytime soon.

Memphis Penny St Johns Mullin Georgetown Ewing All three are leading successful programs. Get somebody that played here that knows what it's like and knows what it takes to win. Mullin hasn't been particularly successful at St. John's. Team has never won more than one game in the Big East tournament and has never made the NCAA tournament. Has a losing record thus far this year in the Big East. Ewing is only in his second year - but Georgetown was terrible last year and is mediocre thus far this year. Also has a losing Big East record. And too early to think of evaluating Hardaway, who is only in his first year, having moderate success but nowhere near a team that will get an NCAA bid. Currently 5th in the AAC.

Former coach Willard wouldn't like you targeting kids the way you do AB. Does it make you feel good? Easy to pick on someone that can't defend himself. Message board heroism at its finest. I also find it interesting that, while you mock any assists metrics that get thrown out there, you target someone (just by coincidence, someone recruited by the current coach) as being selfish, caring only about his own stats; not sharing the ball.

Rodney Baker '74 is a scout for the 76ers. He's 66 years old with a career D1 coaching record below 500. Sound familiar?
At the college level I can't think of an alum who's an active head coach or assistant. I'm sure there is one, let us know who that is, and we can discuss his pros and cons.
I can see career skills, etc. making an alum desirable as an AD, perhaps. Not an ex player who's never put in the dirty work as a coach.
Reminds me of BC faithful continually touting Doug Flutie as coming back as head football coach. And our posters, even the ones I don't like that much, are smartah than that!

Very poor performance getting blown out by a team that was on a 4 game losing streak. When you are basically a 7 man team and 2 of them are out you are in big trouble. Last night the bench scored 3 points in 34 minutes. With Floyd and Grandison scoring 4 and 5 respectively we're lucky the score wasn't worse than it was. Grandison is becoming a trick or treat player having either really good or bad games. The season is really on the brink of going completely off the rails with a very tough road game coming up Saturday. If things don't turn around I don't see how Carmody returns next season.

The stubborn refusal to even attempt to get an offensive rebound on most possessions is the one thing about Carmody’s approach that makes me crazy. On a night when the shots aren’t falling, you’re making it even more difficult to have a chance to win. As I have posted many times, I don’t think we need to be so worried about the fast break of most teams in the PL that we need to have the entire team retreat as soon as a shot goes up to set up our defense at the other end. That plus Niego and Faw injuries will get us killed on the glass most nights.

RJ Evans is currently an assistant at UNC-Asheville, after having previously worked at Texas and Louisville. Torey Thomas would be another that comes to mind if he ends his playing career and wants to get into coaching.
