As Carmody said , Butler did not force things out there . He did have some of that black tape on his right shoulder, however...although not as much as earlier. That is KT tape....K for kinesiology...It is like a sticky back Ace Bandage...KT Tape is an elastic sports tape relieves pain and supports muscles, tendons, & ligaments....(and it comes in all colors)...

Per KenPom HC’s defensive efficiency was its best since March 2016 game versus Army By the way, Army's 26% from the field tonight was their lowest since that March 2016 game, when they shot just under 23% (and committed 18 turnovers). We were out-rebounded 42-29 then, 45-30 tonight.

Given athletics is a generator of revenue I wonder if we could charge students who don’t attend at least 50% of the games on campus an additional 30% tuition. They reap the benefits and need to pay—don’t want to get political here so I will stop It’s simply the trend in mid major college athletics. Go to ESPN 3 and look at the stands at all the non power conference games. They are empty. Tomorrow evening i’m going to Elon @ Hofstra who lost their first game on Sunday after winning 16 in a row. I bet there are fewer than 50 students there.

Understand completely, just throwing it out there for discussion
I wouldn’t want to change the opportunity we had to walk back and forth to the WAuditorium to watch the teams play and then I especially valued the experience of going the miss woo on the way back and having my VC and red sauce, home fries ... or hustling back to Healy and Mulledy to sell my Pizzas
Feel badly the kids everywhere except in the ACC are missing that special experience

Would the Hart still sell out for a PLT championship game? Previous ones have been SRO with air as stale as the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina

- Well the six man rotation certainly longer. 10 men played in each half - One big change tonight was Benzan and Green were basically never on the court together, As a result when they played 1-3-1 the guy on the baseline was over 6 feet tall - First time I've seen Hargis play meaningful minutes. Nothing spectacular, but nothing egregious either. I hope he continues to get worked in - They had good looks most of the night but couldn't put the ball in the ocean. There are bad shooting nights because you're not getting good looks. This wasn't that. Always nice to get a win when you're shooting poorly

Good to see the changes Coach brought to the game tonight... . The zone was much simpler than the match-up they have been using. It kept the bigs inside around the hoop and our defenders were in better position to defend shooters... Didn't see the game, but this would be very encouraging if it continues.

Defense was really active last night contested most shots. Totally shutdown Wilson in 2nd half don't think he scored. Nice to see Grandison not totally relying on 3 point shot with 8 of 13 shots inside the arc. Big game Sunday need to prove we can win on the road haven't even been competitive in recent road games.

I really liked most of what I watched last night. The shots weren’t dropping for the most part, but the energy was there - sharp passing, lots of movement in the offense. On defense, they showed some wrinkles, doubling down in the paint, trapping out of the 1-3-1. All done with a lot of energy, and 10 guys getting utilized on the court. They have to keep that energy on Sunday with a team that is beatable on the road.

OK, the complaint has been that these threads are much longer when Holy Cross loses than when they win so I will do my part and post my thoughts.
First, it was very obvious that Carmody has decided to try something, anything, to be different that might get us one of those increasingly rare wins. And the most obvious was lengthening the bench. So pleased to see our normal 6,7,8,9,10 guys get in - early - and not just when someone got into foul trouble. And, as a result, no one ended the game in any foul trouble. Ziggy had 3 and no one else had more than 2.
Second, perhaps as a result of the quicker sub rotations, the guys seemed fresher and quicker on defense. There was still the occasional open 3 pointer and the "3 point dives" but they were much less frequent. Army shot just 20.7% from beyond the arc.
Third, turnovers were key. Army had 20 and we had 14 steals.
Fourth, Kyle finally showed to me some of his early Carmody-predicted improvement. Not just stat-wise with 4 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals in 15 minutes but his length seemed to disrupt Army's offense. I like when both he and Grandy are in.
Fifth, Mat is still struggling to regain his shooting form. He missed a lot of open 3s but I think that will return soon and we will be a much better team when he can again hit them. He was 1 for 5 from 3 but in addition to his 3 rebounds, he had a block and a steal and zero turnovers.
Sixth, what can you say about Austin? He continues to be a warrior who never quits. He got a rare (for Holy Cross) double double with 14 points and 10 big rebounds. But he stuffed his stat line with but 1 turnover counterbalanced by 3 steals, 2 assists and 2 blocks. He and Grandy essentially were the ironmen playing virtually the entire game.
Seventh, for those waiting for the freshmen to come through, though he only played 7 minutes, Hargis did very well in all aspects excpet shooting (0 for 1) with 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal and zero turnovers. That's a nice contribution.
The bad news was that our 3 point shooting was almost as bad as Army's at 23.8%. The differences was that most of Army's seemed contested and ours were open many times.

Another difference on the threes was that Army took 29 threes of their 53 FGA from three, while we took 21 of our 59.

Yes, and despite the absence of ref McCarthy, there were a number of foul calls that we could categorize as "thank you for your service."
We joked that the refs must have had a "special" on charge calls. Initially all going against Holy Cross but later similar calls on Army.

Official attendance was 1047 and that appeared about right from what I saw on the PL Video feed. That is not the same as "nobody" especially on a night with a chance of very poor driving conditions.

An obvious "Eighth" should be added... We all observed what we have been saying for a long time now (and noted by Tom) that you just can't play 2 not so tall guys at the same time! Not having them both on the court together (except for about the last 2+ minutes of the first half) worked well last night!

The TV cameras rarely show anything of the stands opposite the team benches, but judging by what I could see, I wouldn't have thought there were anywhere near 1047 folks in the gym. I expect that the other comments about general lack of student interest in small time Division I basketball are probably spot on. Does raise the question of how much the College should invest in the sport given the apparent apathy of today's student body. 'Twould be interesting to see home attendance figures for Bucknell -- the marquee PL b'ball program.
