Of course, I'm pleased with this win and hopefully we can carry some momentum into a big game on Sunday, b u t, can we all also say that for a team that blew us out of their gym two weeks ago, AWP was terrible last night.

Following up on sader1970's point four--Yes, another good game for Kyle. In the past three games he has played 55 minutes scoring 14 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. He's 2-8 on threes but 4-6 on twos. He also had 4 steals and 2 assists with no turnovers. He looked pretty good out there to me and seemed to be very mobile--all over the court. KenPom calculated O-Ratings of 81,115,123 for these last three games for Kyle.

Hopefully with the more use of the bench, BC has come with a formula for success. With him not being at the game on Sunday at Lafayette is there any concern the assistants will have the same magic handling the roster?

Note that we have not heard from Coach Carmody's most vocal critic, although he has visited the board. One thing that likely irks him is that Austin Butler, whom he believes to be of little talent and minimal contribution, continues to play very well, as some of us predicted. Perhaps we'll be graced with the customary: "HC wins a home game over the #239 team in the country and you're all acting as if the team beat Kansas on the road".

Likely it was a staff decision since the more liberal subbing seemed to start at the away AU game, perhaps decided upon at practice

In the American game I believe he only got in at the end of the game and played 4 minutes. The American game was such a blowout that I am not sure in a closer game the staff would have gone as deep to the bench. I thought that BC took a leap of faith with the bench last night just to see what he was going to get.. IIRC, In the post-game interview with DL, he admitted he should had done it sooner. He had some nice things to day about Hargis' play - mentioned a deflection he caused which created a layup.

Good to see the changes Coach brought to the game tonight... . The zone was much simpler than the match-up they have been using. It kept the bigs inside around the hoop and our defenders were in better position to defend shooters... Didn't see the game, but this would be very encouraging if it continues. From the time that I was able to watch, it looked like it was far more about the way Army played than Carmody revolutionizing his defensive scheme. Army was just slowly swinging the ball around the perimeter (allowing for much easier rotations), they were not looking to penetrate (not exploiting our fly-by shot fake defense, limiting defensive rotations), and they settled for a ton of 3s (2nd highest 3FGA/FGA in PL games -- lowest 3FG% in PL games). Army has the 305th ranked offense on KenPom and is almost as bad as HC on the offensive boards (#339 vs #345) -- not a team that is really going to test the quality of the defense. As bad as this team has been for the past two months, we are still only two games out of 3rd place, with plenty of opportunities to beat teams ahead of us in the standings. In the final 7 games, we have 4 home games, and one road game against the worst team in the league. If Carmody has truly found and implemented some positive changes for the team, these games against teams ranked ahead of us are the true opportunity to showcase that.

I don't see you calling out the Carmody lovers who disappear after losses. Get off your high horse. And you can have that Austin Butler play that has contributed to a 4-7 PL record. He is not a top player on a great (or even good) team.

There is no way there were over 1000 people at last night's game. Maybe 500-600. The section down low opposite the Holy Cross bench literally had ZERO people sitting in it for 3/4 of the game before 4-5 younger people moved in during the second half. I was sitting behind the benches, and did a quick count of the sections on the opposite side, and there were roughly 100 people combined on that side with another 50 or so combined behind the two baskets.

I cannot imagine where this team would be without him. BC also mentioned last night that AB is making better decisions and playing more within himself - I think his play is starting to show that - let's not forget he is only a sophomore.

Besides Floyd, we don't have one player -- to date -- that will make an all-league team.
Butler has begun to play better, and has been our second-best player during league play. I'd like for his 2PT FG% to get closer to 55%.
I'm not sure what's going on with Grandison. Outside of a few games, he's been playing pretty poorly in league play.
We absolutely need to take care of business against Lafayette on the road with Colgate and Bucknell looming. Winning two of three would hopefully get us out of PIG territory.

Maybe AB felt that he needed to cover for others' inability to get shots in those games where his share is over 20%. The kid doesn't back down from a challenge.
Tell you what - let's go up to the Hart, and I'll take a team of five ABs, and you take a team of five of someone else from this roster (even JF). I like my chances - a lot.

Is your conclusion that because he shoots too much he is a terrible player? I don't think it's that simple 1) I never called him a terrible player, so there's no need to create that straw man. 2) My "conclusion" is that when he shoots too much, the offense (and team) are not as good as when other players are taking those shots.

The crowd was small, I was there. Over 1,000 seems way to high. But the team seems to play so much better at home than on the road.
Yesterday the defense was very good, defensive rebounding, blocking shots was good and I liked that Carmody used some subs to keep the energy going.
Any word on Niego?

Did you ever give any thought to the fact that the team played much better DEFENSE and were much more active on that end than they have been? And, this is what caused Army to play poorly? No, you could not possibly think of that because of your relentless drum beating to spin any success the team has into negative / find faults with anyone on the team starting with the Head Coach! Give it a rest! Must be time to sharpen up your axe, it's getting pretty dull right now! Give it a rest!

Give it a rest! Must be time to sharpen up your axe, it's getting pretty dull right now! Give it a rest! You are certainly free to believe whatever makes you happy, but it's simply a fact that Army is a lousy offensive team (KenPom ranking 305). If you don't think it's easier to defend a lower quality offense than a higher quality offense, I don't know what to say. Through 11 PL games, HC has played 5 games against teams with an offense ranked 305 or higher, and gone 3-2, while opponents averaged 60 PPG. In the other 6 games against offenses ranked 62-246, HC's record is 1-5 and opponents have averaged 77 PPG. (side note: HC has played the weakest in-conference strength of schedule through 11 games, per KenPom)Until the defense can perform against a good offense, I'm not going to use a one game sample size against the 305th ranked offense to say that Carmody has turned around the defense. Sorrey.

It would be nice to get accurate figures on attendance but that ain't about to happen. I'd say HC's average attendance figure is inflated by 25-33 percent.

Is your conclusion that because he shoots too much he is a terrible player? I don't think it's that simple 1) I never called him a terrible player, so there's no need to create that straw man. 2) My "conclusion" is that when he shoots too much, the offense (and team) are not as good as when other players are taking those shots.I'll challenge that conclusion. Let's look at the facts. Here are the shooting percentages in Patriot League play 3 Point Percentage
.455 Caleb Green--has really found his stroke in conference play .408 Austin Butler.400 Pat Benzan --has been very selective (smart) going 4 for 10 .379 Jacob Grandison --has been hot and cold, e.g. 6 for 9 as we beat Navy but 2 for 15 in last 3 games. Shows nice improvement over freshman year. .379 Matt Faw 2 Point Percentage
.714 Jehyve Floyd .473 Austin Butler.458 Jacob Grandison .381 Matt Faw .375 Pat Benzan .344 Caleb Green-- as noted in earlier threads, he hitting 2's and missing 3's OOC I don't see any empirical basis for the belief that AB should avoid shooting so that we can get the ball to other players, unless the argument is that no one but JF should attempt a field goal? AB had two horrendous shooting games versus Michigan and Providence and must "own" those games (you are what your record says you are) but he's shooting better than .500 on twos outside of those games and you see his current trends in the PL data above. AB is a good outside shooter and he can score closer in as well. He draws fouls: in the past five games he is 15-20 on free throws while the rest of the team combines for 16-27. I understand having a point of view but at some point shouldn't you bend when the facts contradict you?
