If I am reading the roster correctly and Hargis and Verbeek are the only Frosh on scholarship, we have 9 returnees on scholarship and 3 incoming Frosh, leaving one open scholarship. The options appear to be:
1. An unsigned Senior - Prosper Obidiebube is someone in whom we’ve been reported to have interest. I think there were Twitter reports about one or two other guys visiting recently.
2. A transfer - Seems like someone coming off his sophomore year would be the best bet for Class balance as he’d be in the Hargis/Verbeek Class. Sean Mobley is the one guy I’ve seen who has some size and would be a good fit in a Princeton offense with very strong passing skills. Someone who just finished his Frosh year would be okay and would give us four players in the incoming freshman class after sitting for a year.
3. Hold it - Only LeSann’s scholarship coming off the books next year so wouldn’t be the worst thing to hold it and get two players in that class.
Knowing only what I read on the Internet about any of these guys, I guess my order of preference would be:
1. Mobley 2. Obidiebube 3. Hold

Is there any known mutual interest regarding Mobley or are you still in euphoria from the demolition ?

Is there any known mutual interest regarding Mobley or are you still in euphoria from the demolition ? No known interest. Just a seemingly good fit basketball-wise. Had an offer from BC so I assume he’s at least a decent student (ducking to avoid the rotten tomatoes).

I thought you were euphoric, not delusional

There was rumor on this board that one of the freshmen walk on's (Lovisolo?) was promised a scholarship his sophomore year. To the best of my knowledge, that rumor only appeared on this board and I have not heard any corroboration. If you believe everything you read here, that is a potential 4th option

If you believe everything you read here, that is a potential 4th option I hope that was just a message board rumor. Giving a scholarship to a kid who didn’t play a meaningful minutes on the team that finished last in the Patriot League would be insanity. The reality is that we have not had a clear plan for how to handle the scholarships since RW left. Carmody has completely botched roster management from the start.

Another potentially intriguing option for the last schollie. A 6’10” guy who undoubtedly is familiar with Messrs Wade and Lowder.

A question-
Once a kid is released can he be recruited or does the player have to initiate contact with schools he has interest in?

Will reach out to my sources and see what I can find out. His game has improved considerably since his freshman yr. A legit 6’10” who can block shots, rebound and score near the hoop—traditional center skills. Haven’t seen outside shooting or passing skills from him. That doesn’t mean that he may not have them to some extent but rather that his role at U-D was as a low post player. Struggled with catching the ball in his freshman and sophomore yrs. Was considerably better as a jr. Don’t know his academic profile.
In view of JF’s graduation and the roster needs at the 4-5 positions, would be a “good get” if he’s available.

How can we not find a center who wants to be a big fish in a small D1 pond, come in as a top recruit, start as a frosh, dominate for 4 years, get a great degree, and maybe go pro. There has to be guys out there with enough common sense to see the logic.

This is why we're a last place team.

There has to be guys out there with enough common sense to see the logic. Carmody's system is geared for bigs who can pass/dribble/shoot, who can trigger the offense as "point-posts" from the top and make three-pointers. That reduces the number of fish in the pond considerably.
As SoV and others have observed, Jehyve Floyd wouldn't have been on Carmody's radar coming out of high school. The coach - but especially the player - get credit for adapting game to system as well as Jehyve was able to.

In my humble opinion, a major problem is we have a team full of guards and small forwards. Some of them just happen to be in 6'8" or taller bodies. I don't see our coach having any interest in the kid from UD High or anyone of his ilk.

Without a suitable replacement for JF, next year could see us going from the outhouse to the outhouse. Hope the coaching staff is diagramming their butts off.

Actually nowadays there should be MORE of those guys and less of the Floyd and Pat Whearty only-good-in-the-low-post guys. Not that I would take our two former players in a heartbeat.

He felt his playing time would be drastically impacted by the new signee...Thomas is a good defender, limited offensively but seems to have a good upside..Didn't know anything about his academic .
