Noticed this tweet from Austin Butler’s mother. Comment in a pre-surgery tweet indicated it was a torn labrum.
Not sure when he may have torn it, but my money is in the Harvard game on a dive trying to save a ball out of bounds.

AB is one of the toughest kids to wear a Holy Cross jersey in a long, long time. Played hurt almost all year but never really let it show physically or emotionally. Definitely the type of competitive player you want on your side.

I’ll bet a Coke that he wanted to do the surgery without anesthesia.

Now if we could just find a 6-9 version of him.....

Best wishes to AB. Those labrum tears are tough. But AB is much tougher. Looking forward to seeing what a healthy AB can do next year!

Wouldn't be surprised if this contributed to the rash of missed layups he had this year.

Think missed layups more a result of trying to force shots over bigger more athletic players, didn't seem to affect long range shooting which improved dramatically this season.

Switching to another injury question - is Connor Niego participating in off- season workouts

Switching to another injury question - is Connor Niego participating in off- season workouts I don't know if he is working out, but I do know first hand he is working the phones for donations to the CAF (left me a voicemail, guess my recent measly contribution wasn't enough lol).
One area where Austin's game certainly was affected by his injury was his "floor" game - we didn't see nearly as many of those hell bent for leather dives in search of loose balls......one can understand why now!

I recall hearing mid season that AB limited his daily shooting practice because of the shoulder problem.

I recall hearing mid season that AB limited his daily shooting practice because of the shoulder problem. Yes, he was limited to taking only so many shots per day. Think it was 30. Anyway, good to get the shoulder repaired! All the best to AB and hope he heals well and fast! Shoulder surgery is not fun! Had both shoulders (torn rotator cuffs) done!

Austin must be an academic first guy since he waited until he was home for Easter to get the surgery.

What's the rehab time for such an injury? Also of interest is how long before he can start running and doing other training.
If this was baseball, we'd be talking about not playing until the 2020 season...but basketball starts in October so maybe he'll be ready.

How long typically until 100% for a college athlete after this surgery? Depends on the severity of the tear...Since he played with it, I'd think not a bad tear, perhaps a little flap...4 months before he is ready to play at minimum..plus it then takes time to work out all the kinks...I'd guess he will be ready to go by October's start date.. ANT had labrum surgery and he wasn't the same player for a year... His range of motion wasn't the same...My daughter had labrum surgery on both her hip and shoulder, her shoulder was never the same..she never regained full range of motion..That is not uncommon... We have to hope AB's injury was mild and he recovers fully and quickly!

It's not the same sport, but I know of two MLB outfielders who had labrum surgery on their throwing shoulder. Recovery time for Michael Conforto last year was 7 months, and he was not the same player for another few months after that. The Pirates' Gregory Polanco will return in 7.5 months.

Conforto had a torn posterior capsule. Is that the same as AB ? Conforto was not the same after the 7 months since he did too much too soon in his rehab.

AB ended pre game warmups by firing up shots from mid court with Grandison so doubt that he had a severe tear.
